03.01.2022 TELL SOMEBODY Is the message former St George footballer Matt Cooper wants to get out after appearing on ‘Sunday Night’. After a league injury which saw him at... the end of his addiction taking 28 x 40mg tablets per day my respect goes out to him for sharing his story to help others. He referred to prescription meds as HILLBILLY HEROIN. He said addiction happens to people you would least expect. I have found this to be very true in my job as a trauma and addictions counsellor. I have counselled and heard of so many people at the top of their field and many in prominent positions as well who have fallen victim to prescription medication addiction. What starts out so innocently often as a measure to blot out physical pain and sometimes the pain of life, soon turns to the emotional pain and devastation of ADDICTION. This is how our very own Aussie acting icon Heath Ledger sadly died. Also my own grandmother. ‘Lethal legacy’ is what Heaths dad described as being left behind.
