24.01.2022 One rule for them, another for the rest of us.

22.01.2022 In an aged care home or a warehouse, in security or in education, you should have a job you can count on. We'll keep fighting for good, secure jobs even when we've kicked this virus.

21.01.2022 Would you trust a mechanic who'd never touched a tool with fixing your car? These AMWU vehicle industry members from Queensland are standing up for the integri...ty of our trades and calling on the government to keep apprentices on the tools. Sign the petition if you agree https://www.megaphone.org.au//keep-apprentices-on-the-tools

21.01.2022 Dandenong trains to get Victoria on the move! I'm excited to confirm, the Victorian Government has ordered an additional 18 VLocity trains to be built right her...e at Bombardier, in Dandenong. The order will support 100 direct manufacturing jobs, and hundreds more through our local supply chain. It will keep Dandenong South chugging along as the engine room of manufacturing in Victoria and central to our economic recovery. *photo taken pre-COVID

20.01.2022 It was really good to talk with the member-led think tank Australian Fabians. They asked me to share my views on the importance of workers power in making polic...y decisions. Here's one of a few things I said: "The first step in building bigger industry and fairer jobs is taking off the chains holding working-class organising back. We can prosecute a case to our members that they should be involved in a bigger political push if we can first demonstrate the power that is in their hands and they have in the workplace we can teach them they can win. It is no wonder workers’ apathy and lack of confidence in politics is at an all-time high, when they can’t even take collective control of the conditions under which they work. To us, our biggest ask must not be a legislative suite of worker-friendly policies that will be repealed, cut or bureaucratised - but simply to get out of the way and let us organise. "

13.01.2022 How Qantas works: Gets half a billion in JobKeeper and other assistance. Then it outsources 2,500 jobs (which they had planned to do 10 years ago), forcing work...ers to bid for their own jobs. 13.01.2022 After another chromium explosion at AustChrome in Mackay, AMWU officials attended the worksite to perform a safety inspection. Officials identified several pote...ntial risks, and have provided them to the company to fix. AustChrome has committed to a full investigation into the continued explosions, and to make changes to ensure it does not continue to occur. It's an unsustainable risk to the health and safety of workers, and the AMWU will never compromise on safety. After the inspection, officials returned to report back on the outcomes of the inspection. Safety is Union business.

13.01.2022 If anyone was wondering how he does it.

06.01.2022 Less time in the workplace is a safety hazard for apprentices, and everyone they work with and for. We need to keep apprentices on the tools. Sign the petition https://www.megaphone.org.au//keep-apprentices-on-the-tools (Meme concept credit to AMWU apprentice Logan)

05.01.2022 The government is relying on young people to not care about their super - we can't let them get away with this. Sign here and help protect our super: https://utm.io/uIGI

05.01.2022 Unions campaigned hard for JobKeeper wage subsidies for those workers affected by the pandemic. The LNP eventually decided on a scheme that delivered JobKeeper ...funding to employers and look what's happened to $24.3 million of those taxpayer dollars. Let’s stop the rot and pay workers who need assistance, not prop up executive bonuses! See more

02.01.2022 We can have both climate action and job creation. We are disappointed that $18b of public money is about to be spent on industries that * Won’t fix the unemplo...yment crisis * Won’t lower electricity prices * Won’t solve the climate crisis. We should be putting this money where it could really make a difference - rebuilding Australian Manufacturing. Making it here, makes a difference.

02.01.2022 This is a bit of a long one - but it's important, so I hope you can stick with me... You might have seen today in the news that working groups on industrial rel...ations (workers rights) have formally wrapped up but there is now a new phase of discussion between employers and the Government. The union movement has stuck to the confidentiality agreement covering the discussions and we won’t be discussing them until they are finished. But there is something we won’t be staying quiet about. It has become obvious that a number of employer lobby groups no longer wish to respect the confidentiality agreement or engage with in good faith discussions. Some employer lobby groups came into this process not wanting to reach common ground or to advance the national interest. Instead, they want to use the opportunity to undermine working people’s rights at a time of unprecedented national crisis. The union movement is committed to ongoing discussions on behalf of working people. We’ve said throughout this process that the national interest will be served by ensuring workers have decent rights and secure jobs in a growing economy. We won’t accept any outcome that leaves working people worse off and we believe agreement could be reached if employers also looked to find common ground. Our message to employer groups is this: put the national interest first.

02.01.2022 This week marks the 100th anniversary of Qantas. But instead of celebrating loyal workers, the airline is preparing to outsource 2500 of them. That's why our me...mbers in Darwin have begun rallying to remind Qantas that without workers, there is no spirit of Australia.
