24.01.2022 ATTN ALL AMWU APPRENTICES: Imagine completing your apprenticeship without having set foot in a workshop. That's what the body that oversees apprentice training, the Australian Industry Skills Council (AISC), is proposing. We need your help to stop it.... Register for TONIGHT's online apprentice mass meeting to have your say on how we can keep apprentices on the tools. 4pm Qld time (3:30pm NT time) https://www.amwu.org.au/save_apprenticeships OR 7pm Qld time (6:30pm NT time) https://www.amwu.org.au/save_apprenticeships_2 Not an AMWU apprentice? 23.01.2022 We had a big win yesterday the Fair Work Commission put the dodgy BHP Operations Services agreements in the bin. We've said all along if you do the same job, you should get the same pay. Officials will be in the Bowen Basin next week to explain the decisions, and discuss our next steps in the campaign.... If you haven't joined yet, now is the time to get involved in the campaign: www.amwu.org.au/join

19.01.2022 ICYMI: AMWU Mackay Organiser, Jason Lipscombe speaking to 7 News about BHP OS workers being denied Christmas, and the inequality between fulltime and OS employees.

19.01.2022 Eddie is a third-year apprentice fitter and turner, and he wants to let you know about a really concerning proposal being looked at by the federal government. "The government would like to abolish apprenticeships as we know them. This is something that we can't stand for. They want to abolish our on the job training and just have us go to TAFE. Pretty much everything I've learned has been on the job and it's been clarified at TAFE. ... We signed up for a four-year apprenticeship. We go one day a week to TAFE. To get rid of our on the job training I think is an absolute joke. If you're an AMWU apprentice, there's a meeting next Monday the 16th and I encourage you all to come along and bring a friend, bring any apprentices you know, it's really important we fight this." You can sign up to attend our online apprentice mass meetings on MONDAY the 16th of November at 4pm Qld time (3:30pm NT time) https://www.amwu.org.au/save_apprenticeships OR 7pm Qld time (6:30pm NT time) https://www.amwu.org.au/save_apprenticeships_2 Not an AMWU apprentice? 17.01.2022 Up to 300 manufacturing workers will be left jobless and cashless over the Christmas break after Australia’s largest printing group Ovato applies for court permission to avoid paying redundancy. Ovato are trying to strip four of the companies in their group assets leaving behind 300 workers in the newly insolvent companies. These workers have bent over backwards to support their company and their co-workers. When the pandemic hit, they took a 40 per cent pay cut to try and k...eep the company afloat. In an agreement that was approved on 6 November they agreed to limit their redundancy pay so that the company could afford to pay them their entitlements while still remaining viable. It is clear that the company had to plan to pay those entitlements, having planned all along to put that cost on the taxpayers instead. Shame on you Ovato, it's not good enough!

17.01.2022 WE WON! The FWC has again refused to approve the dodgy BHP Operations Services agreements. We said from the very start that these Agreements represented the biggest assault on industry terms and conditions of employment in a generation.... We also said that if you DO THE SAME JOB, YOU SHOULD GET THE SAME PAY. We urge BHP to respect the decision of the independent umpire and meet with us to negotiate a new deal

15.01.2022 Our message to BHP hasn't changed same job, same pay! We’ve taken the concerns of hundreds of BHP OS members who are being shafted at Christmas to the media, and we again call on BHP not to be grinches! Earlier today AMWU Mackay Organiser, Jason Lipscombe spoke to 7 News and again highlighted the fight for OS employees to be treated fairly.

08.01.2022 Nita Green - Senator for Queensland took the fight for fairness for BHP OS workers to the Senate last night. Christmas Day and every day, if you do the same job, you should get the same pay! Our fight continues for BHP OS workers. We must stop companies gaming the system and trapping workers in dodgy agreements. Mining and maintenance workers deserve better than this.

07.01.2022 Thanks for standing in solidarity, Nita Green - Senator for Queensland!
