24.01.2022 Its not IRONs fault. Youve had the blood tests taken, they say youre a bit low in iron. You take the iron, yet you feel no different. Want to know why? It is not that simple. ... 23.01.2022 Have you been listening to your body lately? Self-love is listening to our body and honouring its signals. Our mind, emotions, body & soul will tell us exactly what it needs.... All we have to do is listen. Then, act in accordance with those internal nudges. Often when women sit in front of me and I ask about their food or water intake, or how much exercise they do...the answer is "oh not that great" or "could be better". Self love comes with putting yourself first, honouring what you need in each moment and keeping your word to yourself. What do you need to put down or pick up right now? . . 22.01.2022 Often women come in to see me because they are eating clean and healthy, but theyre not feeling great for it. I wanted to give you a sneak peek into what I am currently eating and Id love to hear what works for you! *First thing, water, cup of tea. Exercise & meditation. Collagen, cacao smoothie with flaxseed meal, coconut milk and banana and blueberries. Decaf black coffee . Water. ... *Lunch: steamed veg with fish. Cup of warm cacao made on coconut milk. Or a green tea. Rice cracker with tuna or peanut butter if hungry in afternoon. *Dinner: Meat and veggies . Or tempeh and veggies. Occasional rice noodle dish as I love Asian food . ~Then chamomile tea after dinner to help me wind down . My current health goals are to fuel my body for repair and to eat for satisfaction. So there are a few treats I like making gluten free brownies or gluten free carrot cakes and maybe having a few bits of that as a snack during the workday. I also walk the dog daily as well as my usual resistance (weights) or a jog up the road (around 3-5km). Being a yoga instructor, theres that in there for movement @ 2 hrs a week. So whilst I eat a decent amount, I also move every single day. Its the main thing that keeps my mental wellbeing and motivation in tip top shape. The maintenance of a healthy weight is a bonus too. 18.01.2022 Endometriosis {how Naturopathy can help} currently the medical treatment is the pill and surgery. Some women simply dont want to go down this route, particularly when they are young. Here are my top tips for those of you with diagnosed endo or feel there may be some endo-like symptoms:... *Eat more plant based foods . Endo is inflammation driven and hormonally triggered. This means, if you have lots of pain, you need to work hard to bring those levels down during the month. Eating a wide variety of vegetables, bright coloured spices and a couple of pieces of fruit daily is an excellent ways to get the balance back in your gut (and uterus). * Exercise daily . This one is non-negotiable. Get your butt out there and walk or jog. Or swim or ride. Do yoga or pilates. Whatever gets your heart rate up a little and gets you a sweaty. This is not only for your mental health, it actually helps to move the fluid in and around the pelvis, which can help to regulate inflammation levels. *Stop dairy . Also non-negotiable. Dairy is a known inflammation driver in the female reproductive system so giving up the milk, yoghurt and cheese can help clear up the inflammation really fast, which could mean less pain for you next month. *Consider going on a detox . 16.01.2022 THE 8 DIMENSIONS OF WELLNESS As a Naturopath its my number one priority we delve into ALL areas of you health in order to ascertain what is out of balance, and what areas of the body may need extra support. Heres an activity Id like for you to do - grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle length wise and then across again, so you end up with four quadrants.... In one box write PHYSICAL, the next, EMOTIONAL, the next SPIRITUAL and the next, INTELLECTUAL. Give yourself a rating out of 10 (1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest) as to where you feel your time and energy are in each of the categories. For example: If youve been eating well, exercising and getting plenty of sleep, your physical health is likely to be close to a 10. BUT if youre not resting and recovering, dreaming and creating, your emotional health might be closer to a 4 or 5. This is a great way to really get into the nitty gritty of your baseline health, right now, in this snapshot of time . And now I hear you ask "What should you do with this info?" 14.01.2022 Just because its common, does not make it NORMAL. PMS can significantly affect your everyday life. From the food you choose to eat, through to the amount of quality sleep you get at night time. PMS influences relationships so much that some women have felt that they are the worst person in the world due to the way they speak to their loved ones and work colleagues.... So theres a few tips I have for you to overcome your issues with PMS. *Get your hormones tested. Firstly, you need to not be on hormonal contraception. Then take note of your ovulation. The test needs to happen within 3 days of ovulation to capture the window of progesterone peaking. Commonly, this test is given on day 21 of your cycle, but thats textbook periods. Best to get to know your body first, then take the test AND go to someone to interpret your results. In range does not equal normal or perfect. (As a Naturopath I aim for optimal range, which is where most people feel their best). *Take a good quality magnesium supplement (300mg daily). Do not just buy any old magnesium from the supermarket. Good quality forms are citrate, glycinate, phosphate and orotate. Ask your Naturopath which form would be most suitable for you. Why magnesium? Because it nourishes the nervous system. Also, it improves sleep, and mood. Lastly, 99% of women who are PMS suffers are super deficient in magnesium. *Self care! This is a big one. When youre feeling stressed, busy and worn out, youre more likely to suffer from PMS. So when you get to know your cycle, you can book in less things to have to do in the week leading up to your period. Catch up with friends & try to make more plans around ovulation (its when we are naturally more social). Dont overcommit yourself later in your cycle. Say No to the things that arent bringing you joy, and watch your PMS levels decrease. 11.01.2022 A L I G N Your body is so powerful. Its time to let go of control, surrender, and start to really listen to your body.... Do exactly what it tells you as when you listen to it everything starts to fall into place. When I was a mum of two kids under three, (theyre now 8 & 5), I used to push through. I used to want to be the perfect mum. I used to think if I didnt keep the house clean or cook the right foods, or stop the kids from crying, that I wouldnt be seen as measuring up as a good mum. Little did everyone know, that underneath, I was slowly crumbling. I was TIRED. I was living on good food, granted, I am a Naturopath and know what works well for my body, but I was also having daily coffee to wind up in the mornings and wine in the evening to wind down. Whilst I kept my exercise up, I did not have great stress coping mechanisms. I had let my yoga practice slip away and I had never tried meditating at this point. My heart raced every single day. I had a broken sleep pattern where Id wake up and lay there thinking all of the crazy fearful thoughts about life that were not the truth. Then one night I thought enough is enough! I had to stop holding it together for everyone else! I decided then and there, I had no choice but to start putting myself first. I had a massive cry. I let my husband know how I was feeling. Everything changed from that point. Keeping feelings in, holding onto everything so tightly didnt work for me or my body. I am sure its not working for you either. 10.01.2022 SEED CYCLYING // This is the cheapest and easiest way to balance your hormones naturally. Starting off with your: ... Follicular phase: building oestrogen Day 1 ovulation have 1 x tablespoon flaxseeds and 1 x tablespoon of pumpkin seeds. Benefits of having healthy oestrogen levels: healthy hair, skin and nails. Easily build muscle when exercising, feel happy when youre at ovulation. Next: Enjoy the fun times ovulation brings! This is often when your libido is highest so orgasm often. Pleasure is the antidote to stress. The world needs more pleasure right now! Ovulation is also the time when youre likely to feel most social so book some time with friends or a date with your significant other. Then: Luteal phase is where youre in the second half of your cycle. To support progesterone boosting have 1 x tablespoon of sesame seeds and 1 x tablespoon of sunflower seeds daily (stop the pumpkin seeds and flaxseeds). Progesterone is most helpful to keep us calm during these two weeks pre-period (or pregnancy). Signs you have too little progesteroneirritability, anger, pimples, sore breasts, fluid retention, headaches, and low energy. 10.01.2022 #mentalhealthmonth Theres some pretty amazing stories going around of people who have overcome MASSIVE adversity to go on and help others in similar positions. Not only does this take courage to face ones own pain, it also show courage to take a stand against the pain continuing to occur in others lives. ... Now Im not suggesting we become super heros here and try to save everyone. I am totally suggesting we help the person on front of us. We listen. We hold space for them to speak. We SEE them. We HEAR them. This creation of space, its sacred. Theres deep healing necessary in the world. If more people stopped thinking about themselves and supported the person right in front of them without judging or trying to fix them, the world would change dramatically. Have you been in this position of the space holder? I frequently am. In clinic, and in life. Theres a certain exhaaaaaaale women perform when they realise they dont have to hold it altogether in my clinic. Its a safe place to speak. Its a safe place to express emotions. All feelings are valid. You matter. Dont keep swallowing down your feelings because no one is stopping to listen. Find that person who will hold space for you and truly listen. Often youll find your own answers and heal without the external advice of others. The first step to healing anything is allowing the time and space to feel. Maybe its time you booked yourself in some "space" in your life to delve into the healing you need. Your mental health matters.

09.01.2022 Moon phases // What phase are you in right now? How are you feeling? Knowing the state of the world is rather uncertain right now, it makes me feel whole to be able to gaze at the moon and stars in the evening and wriggle my toes into the grass beneath my feet.... It makes me feel whole to hold a loved one tight. To feel the softness of my pet dogs ears and fur. It makes me feel whole to notice my breath. Once shallow, now instantly deeper as I become more aware of it. It makes me feel whole to be in all of these moments, day by day, allowing each moment to appear, be experienced, and then the next. 08.01.2022 PCOS {a naturopaths perspective} often the women I see with PCOS are highly driven, amazingly confident and super hard on themselves. They often have irregular cycles in the way that they have significant length of time between periods. 35 days + Here are my top tips for PCOS:... *Eat lower carb grain free, paleo (mostly vegetables with some meat), time your carbs to be around exercise. This is because PCOS often correlates with insulin resistance, which makes your body unable to utilise sugars and carbs the way someone elses body does (in a normal way). Limiting carbs to cup serves & eating around exercise ensures muscles utilise the glucose instead of relying on the pancreas and cells to uptake the glucose and insulin load from the blood. *Exercise weights / resistance training is so important. Women with PCOS often have extra testosterone in their blood, so weights can help you build good amounts of lean muscle as well as boost your self esteem, and regulate your insulin levels. *Meditate my fave app is insight timer. 3 minutes of slow, deep breathing (like meditation) can decrease cortisol in the blood, which can make you feel more relaxed AND help your body to release fat as well as assist with regulation of ovulation. So many benefits to meditation! *Journal knowing youre hard on yourself comes with benefits sometimes. If you start to journal, your dreams and big ideas can become reality. Buy a new cute journal and a fave pen and start with writing what youre grateful for each day. 06.01.2022 One of my favourite meditations I've ever created is something I came up with when I was in savasana one day. It starts with tuning into the colour red ~ base chakra. Saying the affirmation "I am safe and secure" Then move up to the colour orange, sacral chakra. Saying the affirmation "It is safe for me to feel sensual and expressive".... Moving up to the colour yellow, solar plexus chakra. Saying the affirmation "It is safe for me to step into my power & shine my light". Moving up to the colour pink ~ green, heart chakra. Saying the affirmation "It is safe for me to give and receive love in abundance". Moving up to the colour blue, throat chakra. Saying the affirmation "it is safe for me to share my voice with clarity and kindness". Moving up to the third eye, colour purple. Saying the affirmation "it is safe for me to trust my visualisation of the future and receive intuitive downloads". Moving into the crown chakra, colour silver/white/violet. Saying the affirmation "it is safe for me to connect with my higher self and divine guidance". Try it one day. Practice this to feel more at peace, connected and balanced in mind, body and soul.

05.01.2022 *HAPPINESS HACK* HOW TO MAKE YOUR BRAIN HAPPY When I speak to women in my clinic about the activities they engage in outside of their normal work/home life, it becomes really clear, really fast which brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) are deficient or in need of some boosting (in a healthy way). I often speak about DOSE in clinic. D = dopamine, O = oxytocin, S = Serotonin, E = Endorphins.... Ill cut right to the chase here and say an orgasm hits all 4 DOSEs in one go, so you could certainly improve your neurotransmitters and happiness by partaking in something pleasurable by yourself or with your chosen partner. If thats not on the cards, no worries! Take a look at the list and choose one activity from each of the lists every day. Thats the true hack here.
