21.01.2022 In 2011, the Amy Gillett Foundation hosted the first Amy's Gran Fondo, and with it, the first Australian Qualifier Event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series. Today, 10 years on, we are delighted to announce that Victoria has secured the 2025 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. Each year Amy's Gran Fondo is the only Victorian qualifier for this World Championship event that moves from country to country annually. In 2025, the dynamic will be reversed to see riders qualify in ...the preceding year, and travel with their friends & families to Victoria to compete in their Age Group to be a UCI Gran Fondo World Champion. Although the event is awarded to Victoria and will be hosted at a Regional Victorian location to be determined, Amy's Gran Fondo would like to thank the Surf Coast Shire Council, Regional Roads Victoria, Cycling Australia, Visit Victoria Visit Melbourne, for their support in the body of work that has set the foundations for making the 2025 event possible. One of our group was hit by a car while commuting by bike in 2016. As part of her recovery and rehab she worked hard to get back into cycling, and then rode a recumbent bike in Amy’s Medio Fondo, 45 kilometres a year after getting a brain injury - and she led a great team along the Great O...cean Road. As it stands, with some uncertainty around the previous September date, riders were holding off registering. Risk Controls specific to our new Spring date of November 8th will be published closer to the event. 09.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT: 2020 Event Postponed, Virtual Event Announced 2020 sees us unable to start our ride in Lorne this year and experience the climbs, the views, and the atmosphere of Amy's Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo. Thank you to all our registered riders for your support and fundraising efforts so far, however, unfortunately, due to COVID-19 our 10 year anniversary event will be postponed to the 24th of October 2021. When looking to ride Amy’s Great Ocean Road Gran Fondo, it is important to remember that the event began in 2011, in support of The Amy Gillett Foundation. The AGF was established in 2005 in memory of Amy Gillett, killed while cycling with the Australian Women's Cycling Team in Germany when a driver careered across the wrong side of the road and crashed into the riders. Since then, the AGF continues to work to make roads safe for cycling in Australia. Amy's Gran Fondo we come together to remember Amy, raise awareness for cyclist safety, and fundraise for much-needed support in research, education and advocacy. All participants have received an email regarding their registration but should email [email protected] if they have any questions.
