06.01.2022 At Andrew Byrnes Law Group, one thing is for sure. We take the idea of achieving justice very seriously. So much so that we are committed to achieving justice not only by fearlessly fighting in the courtroom for our clients, but also in the broader community through our Let’s Give Back Program. Through this program, we give 1% of our pre-tax profit to charity. For this quarter’s donation, we have decided that the #blacklivesmatter and #aboriginallivesmatter causes were too im...portant to ignore. As criminal defence lawyers, one thing has always been clear to us - Indigenous Australians are dramatically overrepresented in the criminal justice system. We can’t ignore the reality. Indigenous Australians face social and economic disadvantage. We aren’t experts, but it may be that this disadvantage gap that undeniably exists has contributed to the overrepresentation of Indigenous Australians in the justice system. This is why this quarter, we have decided do our part to try to break the cycle. We have donated our 1% this quarter to the Bridging The Gap Foundation. The Bridging the Gap Foundation aims to bridge the gap between health and education outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. They conduct extensive research on key projects to address inequalities regarding health and education, and work closely with Indigenous communities to try to bridge this socioeconomic cycle of disadvantage. If we can do what we can to break the cycle of socioeconomic inequality for Indigenous Australians, we may take a step forward in addressing the issues of overrepresentation in the criminal justice system, which in turn, may help reduce the instances of Indigenous Australians being exposed to excessive force by police.
