25.01.2022 I have discovered over 75 different ways you can gift photos. Forget photo albums, magnets and coffee mugs; anyone interested in a personalised umbrella? From the cheap and quirky to incredibly sentimental, there'll be something for everyone. https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/photo-gift-ideas/

24.01.2022 This is 1 year old Logan. Hanging on the wall in his house is canvas with photos from when he was a baby. Alongside are two other canvases, one with photos of his big sister as a newborn and the other of her at 1 year old. Restrictions threw the schedule out slightly - he's 13 months old already - but I'm so glad we could make this session happen. So lovely to visit with them all again!

24.01.2022 Understanding that some parents of newborns might not feel comfortable booking a newborn photographer right now, I've been sharing some tips to help you take some beautiful photos of your baby. Check out the last few posts for my tips regarding Safety and Light (so important in the upgrade of snapshot to beautiful image) and I'm continuing today with: TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR NEWBORN BABY - ANGLES 1 Don't shoot up the nose. Although I'm sure all parts of your... baby is wonderful, a direct peek into their nostrils isn't going to be their most flattering angle. Move the camera higher, forward, tilt it - whatever's required to avoid that view. 2 Beware of perspective. What is closest to the camera will appear bigger. Your baby is a tiny, sweet little thing, but if you put your camera near their feet and shoot towards their face, apart from capturing up that, their body can appear huge. If you are taking a specific photo of their feet then that's fine - and it's a great idea to photograph details like those adorable little toes - but generally position yourself a bit closer to their head than their feet if you're wanting to include their beautiful face. Similarly, be aware of where their hands are positioned in relation to their face. If they're snuggled up and feeling cooperative, moving a hand from front and centre and instead tucking it under their cheek can have a big impact on the image. 3 Move around. Angles that are different from what we normally see are generally more interesting in a photo. I love photographing babies from directly overhead (check back on my Safety Tips though!), which has the bonus of simplifying the background to whatever they are lying on. Consider their basinette, cot, a beautiful wrap or handmade rug. Bringing the camera down low is another interesting viewpoint. Even with your baby lying still in the one position, moving around with your camera can provide many very different images. Some angles will be better than others, but that's where the advantage of digital comes in. Take a bunch then pick your favourites. I'd love you to tag me in your photos #andsoidontforget so I can see your gorgeous babies! See more

23.01.2022 On the weekend I met Kalani, this ridiculously cute and smiley baby girl. I could not believe the eye contact and grins I was getting, within minutes of arriving. Kiddo, you made my job easy!

23.01.2022 What adorable things do your kids say? On my phone I have two Notes pinned, one for each of my girls. They are perfect for jotting down the amusing things that my girls say. A date, a little bit of context - it takes me just a minute. It's my intention to transfer them over into a keepsake journal, but for the moment something quick and easy works wonderfully. They say it, I record it and these snippets of personality and development are safely documented for the ...years to come. Do you have a method that works for you? See more

23.01.2022 Getting to watch my littlest clients grow up has to be one of my very favourite things! I first meet Celine and George as tiny little babies. Now they laugh, clap, point to birds and try to eat grass.

22.01.2022 I am excited to announce that - finally! - I am taking bookings again! I am opening up bookings for outdoor photo sessions held at my gorgeous bush property in Hurstbridge. These sessions will be held from October 26, with the proviso we have reached step 3 of metro Melbourne restrictions lifting when outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people are allowed. ... Can't wait to be creating memories with my lovely families again! For more details and to book - https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/family/

21.01.2022 Day in the Life Photography I have been completing personal Day in the Life projects for years now, and I am incredibly excited to now be offering these sessions to clients. (Well, in post COVIDy times.) I’ve talked more about this in Stories, and for all the details, including the current discounted price, ... https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/day-in-the-life-photogr

21.01.2022 My daughter has renamed herself 'Real Mother Milly'. She is IN LOVE with her new Baby Alive doll that eats and poops. Ella, as all her babies are called, is currently undergoing toilet training as Baby Alive nappies are more expensive than real baby nappies (ridiculous!) and I'm not buying any more before Christmas. In fact, I was intending the doll to be a Christmas present but looking through the website together - she already had a list of requirements for this Baby Alive on her wish list - was a rooky error. Milly was so excited, I didn't have the heart to make her wait.

20.01.2022 I am open for bookings! While it's not quite business as normal - hygiene precautions are ramped up and social distancing requirements still apply - it's lovely to be back capturing beautiful images for families. And if you're in my local area - the suburbs surrounding Hurstbridge like Doreen, Mernda, Diamond Creek, Wattle Glen - I do have a special option at the moment for shorter backyard photo sessions. Message me if you'd like details. ... See more

19.01.2022 My first session back in too many months, and I get to meet and document some wonderful moments for this lovely family. I've shared more photos in my stories - and I could have kept going because I adore so many of them! Seriously, did you notice baby Quinn's little grin? So stinkin' cute!

17.01.2022 Every so often I try and capture a Day in the Life of my family through photos and words. It can be an absolute pain to do - lugging my camera about, constantly stopping whatever I'm doing to capture a photo, kids playing up for the camera or trying to avoid it - but when I look back on the photos they feel like a gift. A day in our life, our habits and rhythms and quirks, to remember forever. I have shared our 14th of November here: https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/our-day-november2019/

16.01.2022 Introducing the adorable and brand new baby Micah. This was my first in-hospital newborn session in months - and months - and it was so lovely to be able to go in and spend time with this new family of 3.

16.01.2022 Imagining a family photo session that is just lining up and smiling till your cheeks hurt? Maybe through gritted teeth as you try and wrangle your kids? Think again. Family sessions full of real cuddles and kisses and laughs.

15.01.2022 I did almost everything wrong when I booked a newborn photographer for my first baby. I didn't consider what I actually wanted and or know enough about what I was actually getting. Learn from my mistakes! I have written my top 5 things to consider when choosing a newborn photographer, so that you can find the photographer who is perfect for you. https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/choosing-newborn-photo/

15.01.2022 Last night my parents had us over for dinner, then offered to have the kids sleepover. Mike and I contemplated going somewhere, doing something, but really we just wanted to go home. I sorted through our mountain of unwashed clothes and put on a load, then read awhile before watching my first Christmas movie of the season. I finished with a whole night sleep with no one little people calling out or creeping into my bed. Simple, yet so restful. xx What would you do with a night to yourself?

14.01.2022 Looking for something special for Valentine's Day? A gift that is wonderfully sentimental? Plus relaxed, fun and delicious... Sunset photo session and private picnic for 2. Held on a lovely bush property in Hurstbridge, this couples photo session and picnic is a wonderful way to spend some time together. Hold your special someone close and we'll capture some beautiful images of your love. ... Message me for more info! See more

14.01.2022 This is the adorable baby Mitchell. I received a message from his lovely Mum Emma, following our session yesterday, that she felt such relief that they wouldn't be missing out on photos that captured his baby goodness. So this is my reminder for us all - as I was planning on getting my family's photos taken this year too - there is never a bad time to capture the moments that make your family wonderfully, uniquely you. xx

14.01.2022 This little kid turned 5 yesterday. I don't know how that happened. I don't know where that time went. Today my nostalgia is almost overwhelming. I want more photos, more videos, more moments captured so I can forever keep them safe. I forget the sleepless nights and the tears as she wouldn't feed, but I worry that I won't remember the days when bandaids are required for any ouchie and licking the beaters tastes better than any cooked cake. ... This is why I do why I take photos. These are the memories I want to keep safe. See more

14.01.2022 Anyone else a little bummed to hear the Myer Christmas windows will not be running this year? I mean, I understand why but I've been going to see them since I was a little kid travelling into the city with my Nanna. With some of my normal traditions just not possible this year, I'll need to find that festive magic for my kids in other ways. So, I’ve created a list of Christmas activities for kids and families that is perfect for an Australian Summer at home. Not a hot choco...late, snowman or ice-skating mention in sight! https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/christmas-activities/

13.01.2022 Does anyone else turn into a bratty child when they play 'Mums and Dads' with their kids? I feel like it's my only socially acceptable form of retribution.

12.01.2022 This family decided to take advantage of their time at home together and have some family photos taken in the backyard. Mum Amy enjoyed filling in the my questionnaire, which helps me learn a little about everyone before I turn up on their doorstep, and her description of each of her children made me smile. She finished by writing, "We are really lucky to have each other and also really proud of one another". #familygoals

09.01.2022 After 6 months of sticking very close home, are we soon to be entering a baby boom? Or was it all just too much togetherness? Regardless, there are sure to be some gorgeous pregnant Mummas who have the perfect timing for a beach maternity session. Melbourne is not known for our warm water, but that's not so much a problem when you're pregnant and running hot! Partners and children are always welcomed during maternity sessions too!

08.01.2022 I want to be back capturing moments and images like this. That full-body snuggle. On Monday evening we met up with my parents for a fish'n'chip picnic in the park, where our 5km zones overlap. My glasses fogged up from my mask, it was chilly and I couldn't snuggle in for a hug like I wanted to, but it was an occasion to be cherished. I think it was the first meal I'd shared with anyone else in over 3 months.

07.01.2022 What weird and wonderful places does your toddler hide things? I ask because this little rascal has hidden the parents' handset of our monitor. We've looked in shoes, on the bookcase, under the bed, in bags... No luck. It's day 4. This thing is hidden good! ... So please, help me out. Where should I look? See more

06.01.2022 I’m feeling so aware of the passage of time today. My little babies are not so little anymore and I’m already so nostalgic for those moments and habits and gestures that are no more. The sleepy grin from her cot when she first wakes up, the quiet cuddling moments after a midnight feed, the toddling steps... This is why I take photos. And why I regularly hire a photographer for my family too. What do you miss from those precious (and tough) early years?

05.01.2022 This is the adorable Ruby.

05.01.2022 Babe in arms. This will forever and always be my favourite style of newborn photo. Capturing that moment of connection and comfort so it can be cherished in the years ahead. What do you think? Are you a babe in arms person or does the baby laying in bedding win your heart?

04.01.2022 Happy First Birthday Oscar! I had a wonderful time meeting you and capturing some of your cheeky grins and new skills.

04.01.2022 I'm going to let you in on a little secret... I do photography weddings. Ok it's not really a secret, but I don't think I've even added any wedding photos to my website yet! It's on the to-do list. (The very long, never-ending to-do list.) Anything lurking on your to-do list that you want to own up to?... Second shot for the lovely @karen_field_photography See more

03.01.2022 During this time of isolation and social distancing, I have learnt that... 1 I am a homebody. An absolute, unadulterated homebody. After barely leaving the house for almost two months now, I'm still not itching to go out. Maybe if we were still living in our old house surrounded by neighbours I'd feel different, but not here. In 'regular life' any friction comes from FOMO and thinking what I 'should do'. 2 Not getting enough sleep has a strong and immediate impact on m...y mental state. My mood plummets, as does motivation and resilience, if I'm sleep deprived. Making sure I get enough sleep needs to be basic self care for me. 3 I need to be more active in my relationships. I have a great group of friends that I adore and admire, but I don't connect with them on a regular basis. Honestly, long text message conversations often feel disruptive to me, so I need to find and use a method of keeping in contact that builds my feeling of connection. What have you learnt about yourself? See more

03.01.2022 This is the adorable baby Thomas. All my newborn sessions are special to me - getting to appreciate that brand new little life will always be a privilege - but this session is particularly close to my heart. Dad Ben was Best Man at my wedding and I'm very much looking forward to the day this one month old baby boy calls me Auntie Dee just like his big sister.

03.01.2022 This little cutie is Ara. During our session, her parents sang her "the Ara song" about all the things that she loves. Cats, music, the car... She has an adorable serious face but, although Ara only wanted cuddles from Mum, Dad knew how to make her laugh.

03.01.2022 Emma, It would be terrible timing to give up your nap while we are all stuck at home together 24/7. Please don't. Love your mother (who really needs that break)

03.01.2022 I'm starting to really feel all the feels about what I've missed this year. This adorable little dude is the child of good friends of mine. I mean, best man at our wedding good friends level. Born during lockdown earlier in the year, I've got to cuddle him just three times I think. I'm so grateful that we held this newborn session between lockdowns and I got to spend the time enjoying him and his family. But wow, this year has had a cost. ... How are you going? Anything I can do to help, please let me know. See more

02.01.2022 I know there are Mums who are disappointed they couldn’t have professionally photos taken while there babies were newborn. And while I understand and respect that - photos are hugely important to me personally too - I also love working with all these older babies and their incredible smiles.

01.01.2022 Day in the Life Photography Every so often, for years now, I have documented a day of my life. The photos of what I wore and my desk at work have now evolved into photos of messy faces and sleepy grins. They’re snippets of time I’ve captured, documenting routines and habits, little personalities and quirks. ... The photos are glimpses into the way we live and love and they are so incredibly precious to me. Last year I finally realised - if documenting days like this is so important to me, why aren’t I offering this to my clients??? Introducing, Day in the Life photography sessions. There are 3 options - Morning in the Life, Day in the Life and Year in the Life - with details and pricing on my website https://www.andsoidontforget.com.au/day-in-the-life-photog/ Contact me for more info and let’s celebrate your warmth, love and lives together.
