25.01.2022 At last Wednesday's Stimulus Summit four state and territory energy ministers discussed their respective plans and visions for a clean energy future, and their ...frustrations. "What was abundantly clear was that their individual and combined ambition and this from a tri-partisan mix of Liberal, Labor and Greens ministers is that the states and territories are so far ahead of the federal Coalition government on climate and energy, it is almost as though they are in a different industrial era." https://reneweconomy.com.au/states-so-far-ahead-of-austral/

22.01.2022 When life is hard, hope sustains us. Not simple optimism, but the kind of hope that is a commitment to deep values and truth. This week's Eco-Justice Notes [htt...p://www.eco-justice.org/E-200724.asp] acknowledges that we also need to sustain our hope. When the world in which we live is profoundly different from the qualities of our hope, we need to refresh and renew our commitments. We can do that by gathering in community, by joining in activism, by worship and poetry and song. How do you renew your hope?

22.01.2022 A new report has found that manufacturing 'green steel' for export using renewables could create jobs, a multi-billion-dollar industry and cut emissions. Australia needs a credible plan to replace carbon jobs as the world decarbonises.

13.01.2022 Some good news about renewable energy. If we can't change from the top down we can work from the bottom up!

13.01.2022 Never a free lunch! Energy use for streaming movies, Zoom and all things internet is up. Maybe 6 hours of streaming could be equivalent to burning a litre of petrol. Perhaps spend more time with a library book or watching the earth and sky for relaxation and well being

13.01.2022 Protecting our oceans from home 23 August 2020, 10-11am Online workshop One of the ways we can combat the major environmental problem of plastics in the ocean is by changing our habits at home. In this workshop we will talk about the effects of plastics in our oceans, what is being done in Australia to combat the issue, and some simple switches to common single-use plastic items which we can all make. Presented by Tangaroa Blue and the Hunter innovation and Science Hub. Registrations essential. For more information visit hish.org.au.

09.01.2022 Some fascinating information on who or doesn't think climate change is a problem

09.01.2022 In some places tree planting is more urgent than elsewhere. Will you be planting trees anywhere.. a prayer garden, for remembrance, shade, wildlife, beauty...?

08.01.2022 A remembrance planting after COVID-19 It is accepted that public green spaces have beneficial effects on mental health. Church yards, prayer gardens and memorial plantings can be places of refreshment, reflection and renewal. It would be wonderful if, as a diocesan movement, parishes plan some plantings to celebrate and remember coming out of isolation after the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also accepted that in the face of climate change planting lots of trees and green spaces w...ill beneficial for the health of this planet we have been given to care for. There are a number of practical issues to consider if you are planning some kind memorial planting including what and where the tree or garden would be. Native plants indigenous to your area are a great choice. They are more likely to thrive and also support native wildlife. Indigenous plants can often be sourced through local Landcare groups, DPI, local councils and other groups such as Trees in Newcastle. Non indigenous plants may also work well in church yard. Perhaps plants linked to Bible stories or trees that will provide shade or colour. Where to plant is the other important issue. Will there be enough space when the planting is fully grown? Will the roots cause problems? Will branches, seed cones, leaves, or flowers fall causing hazards or damage? Will there be water available especially when the plants are young? What maintenance may be required pruning, spraying, fertilizing? Who will look after everything? A little prior thought and planning and your planting can a beautiful thing enjoyed by many for a long time. See more

08.01.2022 In this Season of Creation there are many creatures large and small to think about and care for

08.01.2022 We may have missed out on public gatherings for World Environment Day and other things but but the Anglican Church's Five Marks Of Mission include caring for this planet our earthly home and all who live here. The rich-poor gap is aggravated by climate change as the poor are least able to adapt. Even the little lifestyle changes we can make may have profound effects to help the poor elsewhere.
