24.01.2022 St Matthew’s is a beautiful church in leafy Shenton Park and it was a joy to be at St Matthew's Shenton Park in person and join in their Sunday celebration, and to receive a new member into the life of the Anglican Church. If you’re unable to attend in person, don’t worry, St Matthews livestreams their sermons. Visit their website and enjoy Revd McFarlane’s thoughts and reflections from the comfort of your own home - https://www.stmatthewsshentonpark.org.au/
24.01.2022 The spotlight is also on poverty this week and what we can do to address it. Did you know more than 240,000 Western Australians are living in poverty? If you’re in a position to donate or volunteer, please ask at your local church or contact Anglicare WA on 1300 114 446 to find out how you can help in your community.
21.01.2022 This month I had the honour of attending the installation of Susy Thomas as Moderator of the Uniting Church in WA. With 26 years as CEO of Hope Community and, more recently, as chair of Uniting World WA, Susy has a history of strong leadership and a particular focus on the disadvantaged and marginalised. Our prayers and support are with her as she takes up this new role of Moderator, and with all our brothers and sisters in the Uniting Church WA community.
20.01.2022 The community at St Andrews Riverton welcomed me to the parish earlier this month. It's always a great delight to be with them celebrating Confirmation. Thank you to the Revd Lisa Spargo for the care she has taken in helping young people prepare to take the next step in the faith and commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ. I feel truly blessed to have had that special time and to be with God’s people in this way.
18.01.2022 Aunty Marie Taylor welcomed us to country at the Ecumenical service at the Highgate Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday. The service for Anti-Poverty Week saw representatives of various churches join together in prayer for those experiencing poverty in our community and around the globe. It can give us confidence in the world and our future when people of faith unite for a common goal such power in togetherness.
17.01.2022 Looks like St Augustine's Anglican Church, Bayswater had some rather special visitors last month. I have it on good authority from Revd Chris Hind that they are excellent singers. The Blessing of animals is celebrated on St Francis’ Day in churches across Perth every year. It’s a wonderful celebration of God’s goodness and love and a recognition of the companionship of animals in our lives. ... Thank you for this animal, for its life that comes from you, and for the love and joy it brings.
16.01.2022 Nosse Deum Vivere or To know God is to live is the motto of the St George’s College Chapel. The St George’s College is a gorgeous building and the chapel is particularly stunning. It provides a safe space of quiet reflection and worship for the students at St George's College and it was a blessing to be able to attend the re-opening of such an important space last month.
15.01.2022 Looking after our mental wellbeing, especially in 2020, is just as important as looking after our physical health. This week is Mental Health Week in WA and, if you’re thinking you might want to learn more or pay more attention to your mental health, you’ll find some good information and resources at https://mentalhealthweek.org.au/ For me, looking after my mental wellbeing includes finding time to listen to the birds in the garden, read a book, go for walks sometimes in t...he bush and, of course, taking time each day to pray quietly. How do you look after your mental wellbeing?
12.01.2022 I loved my time as a school chaplain and still really enjoy visiting schools in the Diocese. This month, I received such a warm welcome from staff and students at Peter Carnley Anglican Community School what a sensational group of fine young people and a delight to spend time with them, their teachers and Principal, Felicity House.
08.01.2022 In today’s featured Messenger article, Revd Rae Reinertsen, Pastor at St George’s Cathedral asks us two questions: What impact has the pandemic had on how we sustain our earth? and What plans can we put in place to care for creation during September 2020? Good questions!

This week, we embrace the thousand generation history of this country find out more about NAIDOC Week events and join in the celebration! NAIDOC events are outlined here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/naidoc-week-events
06.01.2022 Today we commemorate the courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers, remembering those who served and died in the First World War of 1914-1918. We pray for those brave men and women who, in those years or in other times of war lost their lives protecting our nation; we call for greater support for those still suffering physical and mental injuries; and we pray for the safety of those currently serving in the Australian Defence Force.
05.01.2022 One of the very special things to come out of COIVD-19 has been the incorporation of technology into our services and reaching those who would have otherwise been unable to attend I have to say it has been a blessing and a silver lining to 2020. Here is Fr Nick’s most recent reading but you can follow the St Mary's Church, South Perth on Facebook and be kept up to date with all.
03.01.2022 It’s always terrific to get together with the principals and chairs of Anglican Schools in our community and discuss what’s been happening on their campuses and online over the last several months. Last month’s Messenger shared some of the initiatives schools have implemented during the recent upheaval our breakfast meeting gave me a great opportunity to gain further insight firsthand. Feel free to share more it’s always good to share some inspiration.
02.01.2022 How are you faring with Sustainable September? With some helpful articles in this month’s Messenger, you could be picking up all sorts of good ideas have you ever been to a Repair Café or Repair Lab? You can find out more about local repairing experts and even how to join them it’s a fabulous concept. What’s your Sustainable September inspiration or idea?
02.01.2022 October is here, and that means another bumper edition of the Messenger. With a theme of Not the year of Lambeth Conference, General Synod and Diocesan Synod our online newsletter tells stories of the events that couldn’t go ahead during the upheaval of 2020. Previous editions are also available online so you can catch up with anything you may have missed from Sustainable September too.
01.01.2022 2020 is almost over and 2021 will see these young leaders heading into their final year of high school. The annual School Leaders Day saw more than 80 newly appointed school leaders come together to meet others, and hear from leaders in our church and schools as part of their preparation for their new role. I had the chance to sit down with some wonderful students from Anglican High Schools throughout the Perth Diocese and look forward to meeting up with them at different times next year.
01.01.2022 Mark your diaries and don’t miss the Magellan Chamber Concert at St George’s Cathedral next month! It’s at 2pm on Sunday 25 October and held in support of the many Western Australians sleeping rough every night. There will be opportunities before and after the concert to donate to Anglicare WA and St Bart’s to help them care for Western Australians experiencing homelessness.... Please come along to enjoy some terrific music and lend your support too!
