25.01.2022 I'm not going to let big companies take local Northside jobs interstate and overseas without a fight.

24.01.2022 National Threatened Species Day is a timely reminder of the disastrous impact climate change is having on our environment. I will always fight to protect our precious coastal ecosystem.

23.01.2022 UPDATE: WESTFIELD PARKING PETITION I met with Scentre Group management recently to express my concern over their decision to burden shoppers with higher parking costs, while reducing free parking hours in this time of great economic hardship caused by COVID-19. Seniors, people with disabilities, nursing mothers and parents with small children may generally require a longer period of time to complete their shopping activities, and it is these sections of our community who will... be most severely impacted by Scentre Groups decision to reduce free parking to two hours. On your behalf, I met with the company's representative and asked them to reinstate three hours free parking for all shoppers immediately, in light of the public outcry and in recognition of the difficult financial circumstances many Australians now find themselves in due to the impacts of COVID-19. I await their response and will update you again when it is received. The Scentre Group representative was at pains to point out that he had received only positive feedback from shoppers about the parking changes, and said that many customers had in fact asked Westfield Chermside to reintroduce controlled parking (paid parking) after it was made free due to the initial impacts of the pandemic. The representative also indicated that increased parking fees and the reduction of three hours of free parking to two hours, would be rolled out at all Westfield shopping centres in South East Queensland, including Carindale, North Lakes and Garden City, by the end of the year. I would urge you to contact Scentre Group directly to express your opposition to the parking changes. You can email [email protected] or phone 3117 5300. Keep sharing my petition with your family, friends and neighbours. https://www.anikawells.com.au//westfield-chermside-restor/ And thank you for your support.

19.01.2022 Too many Northside families spend a huge chunk of their income on child care. This week I met with the Minister for Education Dan Tehan MP to advocate for more more affordable early education.

18.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: the Queensland Government has criminalised wage theft. I applaud the Queensland Government for stepping up and doing what the Federal Government has failed to do - protect workers and punish dodgy bosses.

18.01.2022 Here's an excerpt from Scentre Group's response to my letter requesting Westfield Chermside reinstates three hours free parking. If only 8% of customers stay at Westfield Chermside beyond two hours, surely cutting three hours free parking will only encourage shoppers to rush back to their cars? The longer we spend shopping, the more money in the pockets of local businesses struggling through the pandemic. This week I also met with Chris Gazenbeek - SDA Union Queensland to follow up on some very concerning reports I'm hearing about staff parking.

17.01.2022 Today I wrote to the Federal Minister for Communications to make sure Northsiders get our fair share of the NBN upgrades.

16.01.2022 In about an hour's time, the Joint Standing Committee on Northern Australia is chairing another public hearing into the destruction of the Juukan Gorge. Here are my thoughts on a root issue that we must address.

08.01.2022 Dr Anthony Lynham MP's decision not to recontest the seat of Stafford is a huge loss for our community. If I could keep Dr Lynham as my state MP for life, I would. Dr Lynham's legacy in politics is one to be proud of. As a Minister, he has been a champion for Queensland jobs, leading the charge to a renewable Queensland while creating thousands of jobs across the state. ... As the Member for Stafford, he has been a tireless and dedicated servant to our community. Most importantly, Dr Lynham stands as a shining example of a decent and honourable man, loyal to the bone. On behalf of all Northsiders - thank you for your service. Our loss is the medical community's gain.

08.01.2022 Does anybody else feel like political debate about how we handle the challenges of COVID is becoming extremely toxic and unhelpful?

07.01.2022 With premiums already up 30 per cent under the LNP Government and many Australians struggling to make ends meet, private health hospital coverage is now at the lowest level in 14 years.
