25.01.2022 Whats better than ONE Border Terrier? Three! Treat please Laura! #animal_sense_vet #borderterriersofinstagram #borderterrier

24.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmEf1EkJCow&feature=youtu.be New Video: Medicating Anxious Dogs...Why we do it! Thanks IMDT for allowing me to freely share this....

23.01.2022 Beautiful Gage is growing into his large body and learning that he can ignore dogs, turn away if they don’t want to engage but also engage with good play style for those who want to. His caregivers keep his emotional sink from overflowing with good enrichment, adequate rest and consistent cues. Good boy Gage.

23.01.2022 Waiting patiently for humans! Alaska attended, with several other Irish Setters, a work shop by esteemed trainer Ken Storrs - first workshop at Animal Sense. Great space for indoor classes available to hire.

23.01.2022 Happy Holidays Animal Sense Clients - https://mailchi.mp/anim/happy-holidays-animal-sense-clients

21.01.2022 AUGUST 3rd. A few spots left for next seminar RIGHT START PUPPY - perfect for new puppy caregivers, those intending to get a dog as well as puppy trainers, breeders and shelter staff. See website under group bookings.

21.01.2022 Having a pet who escapes the yard can be a sign of separation distress and fortifying or preventing escape does not solve the underlying distress of being alone. Slow, kind work is required, often aided by anti anxiety medication.

21.01.2022 Sweet Cooper has some reactivity on walks after a lack of early socialisation and likely some inherited fear but in three months has made some steady progress with his caregiver - so now to finesse this dear little dogs confidence. #animal_sense_vet

21.01.2022 Not quite peas in a pod - Lola and Lotti live with some disharmony triggered by Lottis excessive need to control Lola - especially around food - but since beginning their treatment plan there has been a 50% improvement in behaviour. Go team Frenchy!

20.01.2022 Long time patient Charlie came for a revisit since developing seizures to discuss his medication as he has been stable and doing incredibly well with his anxiety for some time now. It is always essential to ensure medications can be combined and it is safe to do so. Wed both missed seeing each other.

20.01.2022 Toffee is an elder but showing she is still capable of learning and did some great cognitive exercise for n consult today. Some behaviours will still require management as there is lots of practice behind them but QoL is good for Toffee.

19.01.2022 What a joy! My friend is raising a service dog for Guide Dogs and at 4 months old he is so relaxed, calm, knows so many behaviours and clearly has the benefit of good breeding, fit for purpose. One day he will be a great aid to someone’s independence.

19.01.2022 Bump in the road of your animal companions behaviour - time to attend an Animal Sense seminar or for more serious behaviour issues book a one on one consult.

19.01.2022 Sorry people if you are trying to book - Cliniko is my booking system and there are major problems with their system currently and so I have no access to bookings or my records. Hopefully they can fix it soon. Please TEXT me on 0417965764 or email me on [email protected] if you are trying to respond to a cliniko message.

18.01.2022 Big night, sleeping all day! #bordersofinstagram

18.01.2022 Roo is a bright, but anxious individual, who handles frustration poorly and genetics dictates some high drives. Lots to work on here!

18.01.2022 Next Monday 7pm 17th August Remedies for Rescue - a few spots waiting to be filled by dog nerds, new rescuers, shelter worker, vet nurses and others. Great video you wont see anywhere else...see group bookings website

18.01.2022 When a patient graduates from Animal Sense it means they are doing so well they no longer need my intervention and guidance and their regular vet can continue their care. It feels good to have guided this family with their special companion and see her shine.

17.01.2022 Setting up for Monday Night Seminar Night!

16.01.2022 Happy New Year People and Canines

15.01.2022 Sweet Leo has several years of practice behind some safety behaviours and over time he has become increasingly successful keeping triggers at bay. It is a slow journey back to a more relaxed way of being.

15.01.2022 First Monday on the month - October 5th - enrol now - perfect for new dog adopters, puppy purchasers or people thinking about having a dog join their family! 7pm see website group bookings.

14.01.2022 No Doctor I Am Not Murphy! Still melts my heart...Any dog of any breed can have behaviour issues that need some adjusting even Border Terriers! #bordersofinstagram #anxiousdog #animal_sense_vet

14.01.2022 Roo showing his style with a very solid chin rest. He has come a long way quite quickly with lots of repetition of the desired behaviours. Medication is assisting the change.

14.01.2022 Always important to prepare yourself and your dog well in adavance for the festive period....

13.01.2022 Winter dogs on the driveway... @ Fremantle, Western Australia

13.01.2022 Blake has a combination of serious medical conditions and emotional instability but a lot of people, including his caregiver, doing what they can to ease his discomfort.

13.01.2022 Juno has made progress living with a new puppy despite being highly anxious around unfamiliar canines but the work that his caregivers have done is not for the feint hearted. Both dogs attended today which was nothing short of miraculous.

13.01.2022 That old chestnut....

13.01.2022 Wicket and Murphy celebrate being twelve years old with Isla’s peanut butter and apple treats.

12.01.2022 We joked that this might be a face only a mother would love! This individual needs to learn some social skills and to deal with frustration over not being able to greet.

12.01.2022 Coco suffers anxiety especially around his caregiver coming and going and this has been exacerbated by a recent move but may have always been underlying. Since moving in the future is on the cards it is important to learn some coping strategies and find the right medication to assist his most stressed times.

12.01.2022 This failed working dog is finding his feet in a city environment and lack of wide ranging positive socialisation means he needs his introductions to be considered and slow. Negative experience is hard to recover from so best to proceed at a pace your dog tells you he can improve at. #anxiousdog #workingdog #animal_sense_vet

12.01.2022 Resource guarding food against another canine can be normal canine behaviour - after all dogs are scavengers and are competitive for valuable resources. Excessive need to control is however an anxious behaviour and requires modification with positive reinforcement of new behaviours. #animal_sense_vet #teacuppoodle

12.01.2022 https://vimeo.com/showcase/4992397 Animal Sense videos

11.01.2022 Goofy faced Monty has issues with excessive arousal on seeing other dogs. He is a long time sufferer of anxiety which hinders his interpersonal skills.

11.01.2022 Cilla says shes happier to have her consult on the chair! Thats fine by me. Letting a dog choose where they are comfortable can give them predicability about something that is inherently scary for them.

11.01.2022 Wise words from wonderful Dr Reisner

11.01.2022 3rd Monday night of the MONTH - 21st September - an hour long seminar for new adopters or people contemplating taking on an adult dog. Great info you wont find elsewhere!

11.01.2022 Vader super star - fave of Animal Sense - showed he could see bicycles and people with reduced aroused barking. Great work team Vader! #animal_sense_vet #anxiousdogsofinstagram #kelpiesofinstagram

09.01.2022 Snuck in a quick Christmas visit to the patients at Alma Street. Murphy didn’t miss a trick even after a big break since his last visit.

09.01.2022 Hand felted Animal Sense logo dog

09.01.2022 Alaska is an Irish Setter believe it or not! She attended with a house mate who is the patient but enjoyed a chew whilst she was here. #animal_sense_vet

09.01.2022 Arti has shown improvement since beginning a comprehensive plan of good management, behaviour modification with a positive reinforcement trainer and the right combination of medication. Onwards Artemis! #animal_sense_vet #frenchiesofinstagram #frenchbulldog

08.01.2022 Great work with a fearful Animal Sense patient. Thanks Morley Vet! And Fear Free Nurses...

08.01.2022 Monday 7pm September 7th - for new puppy caregivers or persons thinking about acquiring a puppy or dog - start off on the right path with the most up to date information as to how to rear a happy healthy canine indidvual. See group bookings website.

08.01.2022 Muzzle training done slowly and positively can be very helpful for anxious dogs...

07.01.2022 This sweet soul is another Animal Sense favourite! He is doing well despite his chronic health concerns and emotional issues. He is a lap dog too!

06.01.2022 Mally was in for a revisit and had a munch on a cow hoof to relieve stress. #skinnydogpettreats #animal_sense_vet

06.01.2022 Little Angus is six months into his behaviour treatment plan and things are looking bright. He loves enrichment, is learning to be calm around previously scary things and can be social with the right set up. Onwards team Angus!

06.01.2022 Animal Sense is located in a quiet back street in North Fremantle and with parking directly in front of the entrance it couldnt be easier for an anxious dog to enter the space. #anxiousdog #fearfuldog #animal_sense_vet

05.01.2022 Did you know Animal Sense stocks Give Me Space vests which are a great way to highlight your dog’s need to not have other dogs in their face and a recommended piece of equipment for anxious dogs when out of the home

05.01.2022 Smart doesnt mean confident. Smart doesnt mean fearless. This individual has specific fears that include cutlery noise, alfoil dispensing and tape measuring. These sounds cause frenzied barking and are intense fears. Recovering will require protection from the sound whilst working below threshold to condition a new emotional response. #noisephobia #animal_sense_vet

05.01.2022 Enjoyed meeting this good looker and introducing him to some calm behaviours including some clicker work. He has a strong and perhaps excessive drive towards ball play and this can become rather overwhelming for humans and not cognitively rich and diverse enough for canines.

04.01.2022 Frankie has shown significant improvement after three months on her behaviour plan. She is less mouthy, more able to be redirected and less noise sensitive.

04.01.2022 Barney suffers some anxiety and fear especially around traffic and over the years his fears have increased as opposed to having faded away. Because Barney generally chooses avoidance and escape he has coped but as his fears worsen caregivers would like to see him less stressed and find ways to improve the day to day quality of his life.

04.01.2022 Note the dilated pupils of this patient despite medication that reduces arousal... #animal_sense_vet #anxiousdog

04.01.2022 Must be bully week. Lovely visit with Animal Sense long timer Jimmy who never used to be able to enter the vet hospital and was seen from the back of a car, but he has now made two visits to Animal Sense and entered and become more at ease with each visit. He allows pats and takes food gently. He let me feel his belly! Well done Jimmy.

03.01.2022 Such a happy day to graduate a dog from Animal Sense as their caregiver is happy with all the outcomes and has the perfect dog. Yeah Titus!

03.01.2022 Thorn in the side? If your animal companion is causing you stress you may need someone outside of the relationship to help guide you to a more harmonious place. Treating animal behaviour problems requires a full understanding of the animals history before a plan can be constructed. #anxiousdog #dogbehavior #animal_sense_vet

03.01.2022 My booking system is experiencing some difficulties this morning so hang tight and have a look a little later and hopefully the technical people have repaired the system...

02.01.2022 Sometimes it is difficult for caregivers to recognise general anxiety in their companions. These animals can overly seek reassurance, make poor choices when interacting socially and have an excessive need to control their environment. See the worry signs here- tight face, panting, grimace, ears back

02.01.2022 Frankie has achieved a 70 % improvement since working with Animal Sense. Alert barking has virtually disappeared and he is enjoying life! Well done Frankie! #animal_sense_vet #anxiousdog #anxietyindogs

01.01.2022 Seminar Night on a blustery Monday in November!

01.01.2022 Buddy is a senior citizen but having found a supportive home later in life new caregivers are keen to ensure he starts off right - hence new adopters came to see me - this is a bonding time, take the pressure off and ensure resources are freely available as past deprivation can have long lasting effects.

01.01.2022 Stealing inedible objects and eating them can result in intestinal obstruction which can be life threatening and is one of the more serious behavioural conditions we treat at Animal Sense. #animal_sense_vet #anxiousdog
