25.01.2022 On Tuesday nights us girls have to fend for ourselves... So its Fish & Chippies and Frozen. Making the most of curfew and #takeawaytuesday

23.01.2022 Im so proud to be running alongside the amazing Deb Thorpe, who is another passionate local activist and a great friend! Over the next few months Ill share bits and pieces so you can get to know her too- shes a wonderful addition to our campaign for Nicholls Ward, as Alicia is to our neighbours in Langridge Ward

22.01.2022 Yesterday, I got an email from Piero- an awesome 11 year old who lives here in Yarra. Piero had a chat with his Mum and Dad about who to vote for in the upcoming elections- and guess who they chose!! As a kid who was also brought up in a family where politics was always a topic at the dinner table, I am so pleased to see the next generation of young people in Yarra reaching out and engaging with local issues. Its awesome! Go Piero!!... Approximately one in five of our people here in Yarra are under 25, and I think we need to work as hard as possible to engage them as much as we can, through targeted connection and consultation on community issues. Its also important that we maintain that focus on our young people as we begin our COVID recovery. Working with schools, neighbourhood houses and community groups to establish homework clubs will be a key feature in that re-engagement and connection, as well as connecting our young people together by encouraging university students to become tutors. I am also for finding a more productive use of the empty commercial property on our shopping strips by providing young people with opportunities for skill development and supporting early childhood education. Im keen to hear your thoughts! Let me know below

21.01.2022 Our new website is live!! Check us out, donate to our campaign and take a look at our policies- and dont forget to get in touch!

21.01.2022 Fathers Day is often a very bittersweet day for me for many reasons. But today is an opportunity to take a moment to appreciate the two incredible people that are the reason that Primrose is the wonderful human that she is. Being a parent is a choice you make every day, and being called "Dad" is earned. I know that because I watch my partner BJ choose Primrose every single day. He is devoted to her. Hes respectful of preserving my late husband Joshs memory, but treats her... like his own. Fatherhood takes many forms. Primrose is lucky to have the nature of one incredible man, and the nurture of another. And I am grateful to them both for helping me be the mother she deserves. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there. Days like today for are hard. Harder still in these Covid times. But being surrounded by these incredible Fathers... Well, its not all bad

20.01.2022 Our Saturday nights in are not so bad #curfew

15.01.2022 I spent my daily exercise time today popping over to the other side of our ward to visit my running mate Deb and checking out our lovely faces on the front of her house. As of today, youll be seeing more and more corflutes going up around the neighbourhood- if youd like one of your own, let me know.

11.01.2022 Grassroots Advocacy is my lifes passion (second only to Miss Primrose) and about this time last year I was told that I was nominated as a finalist for an Advocacy Award from Research Australia after our community successfully got the first brain cancer drug onto the PBS in over 30 years! Real change comes from the grassroots up. Its one of the most exciting and important aspects of our local councils and its a passion Id love to be able to share with Yarra.

11.01.2022 Thank you to Kidspot and Melbourne Legacy for sharing my story

10.01.2022 Im so excited about this: our virtual Walk 4 Brain Cancer is live right now!! Thank you to the amazing Baxter for helping us spread the word- what a legend (and check out my little cameo with the Health Minister at about 1.10) Ill be proud to walk "alongside" our incredible community on Sept 27th for our National Day of Action

09.01.2022 Weve got some great events coming up this week including tomorrow nights Q&A with Sen. Jess Walsh and this weekend- its Bollywood dancing

09.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago, my running mate Debra Thorpe shared with me this photo of herself next to her plot at the Rushall Community Garden, where she is a passionate gardener. Were proud of our community gardens in Yarra and would love to see more. Deb and I connected instantly as we both come from a health background. As a nurse in the public Health sector for over 20 years, Ive been grateful to Deb for sharing her deep knowledge of the value of art and culture, as well as ...maintaining our open spaces (including our community gardens), ensuring appropriate development- and the impact these areas have on the health and wellbeing of our community. I find myself taking copious amounts of notes as she speaks and have referred to her as "The Oracle" more than once. Check our the policies section of our website for more about our plans for our beautiful city: yarralabor.org/policies

08.01.2022 Learning to smile with our eyes...!

07.01.2022 Now thats what I call a turnout!! Thank you to the 150 (or so) friends who joined us on Saturday night- and to our local Yarra legend Frock Hudson for being the undeniable hostess with the mostess xx

07.01.2022 Its on!! Council elections are confirmed to go ahead as planned Make sure youre enrolled to vote by 28th of August or check your enrolment details at: https://enrolment.vec.vic.gov.au/

06.01.2022 I wanted to share with you all one of my big advocacy passions- veteran welfare. Its more important than ever that we look after the mental health of veterans and their families. Im unbelievably proud to be a Melbourne Legacy ambassador and secretary of the Hawthorn RSL Sub Branch, but even more proud of my incredible husband Josh and the story I have to tell. Grab a tissue... This ones a tear jerker!! #wewillrememberthem

06.01.2022 I talk a lot about how the connection that Yarra Council services provided to me in the early days of single-motherhood was vital, but theres another really important factor in community connection and safety within our neighbourhood: Footpaths!! Lots of our local footpaths look like this and its hard enough for me+pram to get around, let alone for those in our community with accessibility issues.... Its easy to forget how much we rely on the humble footpath and I think its crucial that our footpaths are maintained. If elected, my first step in this will be to see Yarra Council conduct a footpath audit and work to fix these areas that are causing issues for older and differently-abled residents, as well as those of us with prams. Were spending more and more time community-based so Id love to hear your thoughts on this too- I recently had a resident suggest that we also need more seating to further help with accessibility for those unable to walk too far- I think this is another fantastic idea. Let me know your thoughts below

06.01.2022 A few weeks ago I checked in on one of our youngest brain cancer advocates- Jett (who is 5) and his Mum and Dad. This is an incredible family who are handling the challenges of lockdown alongside the challenges of cancer in the most positive and inspiring way, thanks to the Telehealth services that have been created in response to COVID-19.

05.01.2022 Chuffed to be invited along as a panelist for the ALP Local Council Campaign Forum tonight!

05.01.2022 Today, I want to share a little but more about my running mate! Deb is a long-term North Fitzroy local who is passionate about promoting healthy communities through social connectedness, healthy food and physical activity. Im inspired by the commitment and love she shows to her family, and it was exciting to recently share the joy welcoming her little baby grandson Koah, our newest campaign supporter, into the world.... Deb will be joining me for our first phonebank session tonight, and its such a privilege to be campaigning with her

04.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day to the incredible ladies and gents who have supported Primroses development, confidence and growth (and dancing skills) over the past two years- and mine. Prims Dad passed away two months before she was born, and so even though I began my parenting journey solo, because of you, I was never alone. The early childhood sector has been absolutely rocked during COVID, and it is one of the issues that concerns me most and something Id passi...onately work maintain if elected. Yarra City Council started providing maternal and child services over 100 years ago, and now provides 15-22% of childcare services across 4 highly accredited programs, even as many other councils have moved away from providing childcare. They say it takes a village. Well I can say, hand on heart, that Prim and I wouldnt be the strong women we are today without early childhood educators. Thank you x Heres one of my all-time favourite childcare moments from Blyth Street:

04.01.2022 Earlier this week Dan Andrews reported that a survey by the Royal Childrens Hospital had found that one in five families with a child under five years has had a routine vaccine delayed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. It prompted me to dig out this photo of Primmy getting her 12 month old vaccinations. While there were tears in the doctors office (mainly mine) we were all smiles after. I am concerned about Dans statement, because at 93.09% City of Yarra is already... lower than the state-wide 95% herd immunity target, even before Covid-19. If elected, one of my main focuses is to raise our vaccination rate to the state-wide target by supporting immunisation services, and by providing education and promotion of the importance of keeping up-to-date with immunisations through our neighbourhood and community houses. If our community as a whole doesnt stay up-to-date with vaccinations, we risk our herd immunity. As a young Mum, this is so important to me, as Im sure it is to many other Yarra families.

03.01.2022 Done all the streets of Carlton North... But not bored yet!

03.01.2022 Its been a bit strange watching my Sydney co-workers slowly start to return to the office, as we go deeper into lockdown. But when these showed up on my doorstep, it reminded me how close we all really are. Take care of each other. Weve got this! Cure Brain Cancer #workfam
