20.01.2022 The Australian Partner Visa - why its a good choice Despite its hefty price-tag, the Australian Partner Visa, in my opinion, remains one of the best visa choices for eligible applicants looking to obtain permanent residence in Australia. You will, however, need a partner to sponsor you and they will need to be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or eligible NZ citizen. The Australian Partner Visa is a great option because it is not designed to help a foreign... resident come to Australia. The Partner Visa is designed to allow an Australian Citizen, Australian PR or eligible New Zealand citizen to be with their foreign partner and family in Australia. This visa is intended to benefit the Australian Sponsor, not the Foreign resident. I dont want to give the wrong impression because getting a Partner visa is not a walk in the park it requires that you have a genuine and continuing relationship and that you satisfy Immigration of the relevant criteria in the Migration Act and Migration Regulations. On top of that processing times of 2+ years are, in my opinion, somewhat excessive. Notwithstanding, it is the things that you dont need that make the Partner visa a great choice. You will not need: English Language Testing A skilled occupation on the one of the skilled migration lists, An Invitation from an Australian State or Territory, A Skills Assessment, Years of work experience, To live in Australia for any specified period of time, Whats more, some of the benefits of the Partner Visa include: Its a combined application that, if successful, results in Permanent Residence, You are eligible for Medicare (if lodged onshore) from when you first make application, If you have an Australian Child or are in a long-term relationship, you can skip the Temporary Visa and move directly to the permanent visa, - There is no age limit, & The application is open to same sex couples. 16.01.2022 The new Skilled occupation lists (SOL) for 2018 have been released. You need to score a minimum of 65 points (as of 1 July 2018) however that is always not enough to be invited to apply. 07.01.2022 Turnbull Minister withdraws a controversial new rule ... The Turnbull government has scrapped a controversial new rule that forced poorer migrant families to earn more if they wished to financially support visa applications for relatives. It was proposed that the assurance of support income threshold be increased from $45,185 to $86,606 for single people or a combined $115,475 a year for a couple. This meant that a person seeking to sponsor a parent or relative would now need... to earn at least $86,606 p/a before they would be permitted to lodge an assurance of support. This change was to apply to any of the various family visas where an assuarance of support is required. Moreover, it would apply retrospectively to the many thousands of visas which have been lodged and are waiting to be processed. The move sparked a fierce backlash from migrant communities. The Turnbull government has now agreed to withdraw the changes when it became apparent that the Senate would move to have the chages defeated. There will now be a return to arrangements that were in place before April 1 and it would be retrospective to cover any applications submitted after March 31. This is an important win for multicultural Australia, and for families who just want to be together, Senator McKim said in a statement. The professional body representing Registered Migration Agents in Australia (MIA) has lobbied hard for these changes to be withdrawn. 07.01.2022 UPDATE: The Department of Home Affairs will now be issuing 189 and 489 invitations on the 11th day of each month, effective 11 August 2018. Invitations will no longer be issued twice a month. However, there is no change to the overall number of invitations that will be provided each month.
