24.01.2022 Dr. Emily O’Leary is best known for her groundbreaking work in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorders and Anxiety Disorders. Parenting is a 24hr gig, so for perinatal mental health awareness week in November, I am going to attempt to do a 24 HOUR GIG - that is, I am going to LIVE STREAM for 24 hours straight to raise awareness of mental health issues impacting new parents. The 24 hr live stream will consist of a combination of: interviews, sharing stories, playing games, answering questions and therapeutic modelling of generally falling apart (my prediction is for between 3-5am). #parenting #mentalhealth #psychology #motherhood #perinatalmentalhealth #spiltmilkpsych #twitchstreamer #24hrgig

09.01.2022 Second week in! The first week of school can be tough for everyone. Your child may be adjusting to a new school and meeting new people. You are adjusting to the new routine of school rush and packing lunches! Hopefully by now things are starting to settle in and you can take a deep breath and congratulate yourself. School holidays can also be tough, and it's ok to feel grateful for the distance school places between you & your child. You're doing great and you've got this

06.01.2022 Let’s talk about perinatal mental health. Becoming a mother brings on so many changes, most of which are so different from your expectations. That overwhelming feeling that you are now responsible for a baby and you can’t just pop down to grab some groceries hands free. The changes to your body. The lack of sleep.. it’s OK to not enjoy every stage of motherhood. It’s OK to ask for help. Motherhood is hard and you don’t have to suffer alone. Ask for help, speak to someone.

05.01.2022 "Emotional invalidation prevents kids from learning how to manage their emotions. When we teach kids to identify their emotions, we give them a framework that helps explain how they feel, which makes it easier for them to deal with those emotions in a socially appropriate way." https://www.gottman.com//age-age-guide-helping-kids-mana/

03.01.2022 Helping children identify their emotions and understand them can be a foundation to problem-solving how to manage them. Recognizing and labelling those emotions when they start to creep up is a useful tool for children and adults as well to help manage how you're going to handle it. https://childmind.org/artic/how-to-help-children-calm-down/
