21.01.2022 What an amazing second week back How's your training going?

20.01.2022 LUNGES : - Both of these lunges hit your total lower body (quads, glutes, hamstrings) however with different torso angles, stances, foot placement & elevation you can make the movement more glute or quad dominant! 1 REVERSE LUNGE - .... Taking a step back whilst having your torso in a slight forward lean, the step back puts the hamstrings/glutes under more tension. Your back knee should drop down to the ground to ensure you have completed full ROM (range of motion) then driving through your front heel keeping tension throughout your reps. Try to ensure your your shins remain as vertical as possible (to hit those glutes), your back neutral & hips stable & square. 2 FORWARD STEP LUNGE - . Taking a smaller step forward, the motion requires a lot more demand & power out of your front leg and quad to push back to the starting position. Naturally, your shin will move further forward toward your toes. Keep your torso upright & core braced, drive out of your front foot, keeping your heel on the ground. ?

18.01.2022 Hands up if you're getting your weekend workouts in #afsomerville

18.01.2022 Here at AF Somerville we have 2 variations of a leg press machine, a plate loaded & pin loaded. Both are used to develop the quads, hamstrings & glutes, by varying your foot placement you can target different parts. Below are different foot positions & what each targets :... - A wide stance puts more emphasis on the adductors & inner quads - A narrow stance puts more emphasis on the abductors & outer quads - Standard shoulder width apart is great for overall leg development - Having a higher foot placement puts more emphasis on the glutes & hamstrings - Having a low foot placement puts more emphasis on the quads

14.01.2022 Running into the weekend

14.01.2022 There are so many amazing physical and mental benefits you get from exercise! Why do you come to the gym?

13.01.2022 While it sucks we don't get to see everyone in the gym, there isn't much we can do about it except for staying positive. Lock down 2.0 gives us all an opportunity to "re-do" what we feel as though we did not achieve the first time. We know what to expect. So If you found that you fell off track a bit with your health last time, now is the time for redemption. This does NOT mean burn yourself out, but take control of what you can, and make YOU and your (physical and mental) health a priority and together we will be better and stronger on the other side. #afsomerville

13.01.2022 The AF Health Hub has everything you need to stay on track in lockdown 2.0, free for all members! Make sure you check it out

13.01.2022 You've been training hard since gyms have returned, why not try some new meal ideas from the AF HEALTH HUB to ensure your staying fueled for your workouts! #afsomerville

12.01.2022 Weights aren't everything, you can still keep active, healthy and on track in so many ways! How? By controlling what you can. For example; your daily steps, nutrition, water intake, and sleep! The key to all of it is finding what works for YOU, and staying consistent, just as you would in the gym! #afsomerville

12.01.2022 The secret to success in the gym: Show up

09.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS When you come into the club, take note of some of signage, sanitizer stations, and some changes in our club rules. What have we done to ensure #gymsaresafe? ... We have increased our cleaning frequency of the gym and our equipment Machines are spaces apart to assist with social distancing requirements There are multiple sanitiser stations around the club for you to use We can have up to 40 people in the club between our 2 zones which have been sectioned in the gym. You do not need to book to use the gym, it is business as usual. We do ask to keep the gym a safe and clean place that you use the provided hand sanitiser on entry, train with a towel and wipe all equipment down with the wipes provided. If you are feeling unwell, stay home. This way, we can all do our part to keep the gym open. (Also- how cool is our new chalkboard artwork that our awesome member Macey has done for us?!) #straightouttaiso
