25.01.2022 Mamak stalls are an integral part of urban life in Malaysia, a truly unique one that is! The term mamak is widely used to describe Indian Muslims. Its known to be a confluence of Indian and Malay culture and is derived from the Tamil word for uncle, or maa-ma. Eating at a mamak is quintessential, but what to order? Heres a list of dishes that they toss, fry and serve for a true authentic experience.

24.01.2022 Malaysian batik will always hold a special place in our hearts. From its distinctive motifs to its rich history, instead of being just a handicraft, batik has acquired the status of an art form. These beautiful batik can be found on the east coast of Malaysia such as in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. The most popular motifs are leaves, flowers and geometrical designs like spirals. Did you notice our cabin crew are wearing a kebaya with batik design?

23.01.2022 The Wau Bulan carries a unique cultural heritage in Malaysia since the 15th Century, making it one of Malaysias most recognisable national symbols. The Wau Bulan got its name from the crescent moon-like shape of its lower section. Rumour has it that the word Wau came from the Arabic letter Wau because its wings look like the outline of the particular Arabic letter. Others tell a funnier story that when the first Westerners visited Malaysia and set eyes on the kites in the sky, they shouted Wow!. The name had stuck ever since. We do agree though, it is a sight to behold.

22.01.2022 Proudly flying the Jalur Gemilang wherever we go. Did you know that the Malaysian flag was first raised on September 16, 1963 after the declaration of the Federated States of Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore. In 1997, our former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad asked the country to name the Malaysian flag and the public chose Jalur Gemilang, or Stripes of Glory in English. Thank you @abdulhafiz380 for this beautiful shot of our national flag on our aircraft. #WingWednesday
21.01.2022 Did you know the wingspan of an A380 is almost as wide as the length of a football pitch? Now thats big, 80m big. But dont get any funny ideas, kay! What other things can you think of that have the same length as our A380s wingspan?

19.01.2022 When we say Malaysia is a melting pot of different cultures, this concept of cultural fusion runs so much deeper than just our cuisine! For instance, take the Baba Nyonyas. Baba Nyonya or Peranakan people are descendants of Chinese immigrants who came to the Malay Archipelago back in the 15th century and assimilated with the indigenous culture in Malaya (back then) through mixed marriages. Nyonya refers to Peranakan women while Baba refers to the men. Here are some pretty cool things about this unique, hybrid culture.

13.01.2022 Wearing a face mask is key to preventing the spread of COVID-19, making this one of the easiest ways to help reduce risk while traveling. Malaysia Airlines requires all our passengers to wear a face mask, covering over their mouths and noses throughout check-in, when visiting our Golden Lounge, during boarding, in flight (except when eating or drinking), while disembarking and when collecting their luggages at the baggage carousel.

10.01.2022 They turn thanks to the help of a tiller. Tillers look nothing like steering wheels in cars, although they work the same way. When you turn the tiller, the wheels directly under the nose of the aircraft are turned, and the rest of the plane follows suit. This way, you can steer the plane comfortably and even navigate tight turns on taxiways. #MHDidYouKnow
10.01.2022 No, airplanes do not need to rest like humans do. They do need some brake cooling time, regular maintenance and gas, then they're good to go! However, planes, like any other machine, need periodic service and maintenance. Certain type of maintenance can take weeks or even months to complete! #MHDidYouKnow

08.01.2022 Just like our beautiful A330-300, we all need to spread our wings and fly high. And we are always happy to see our birds soaring high in the sky. Where would your next dream destination be when the borders open? #FleetFriday : @aviationkulspotter0088
07.01.2022 Ever wondered what the flaps and slats on the wings are meant for? For the aircraft to fly faster without drag, the flaps and slats retract. But when they extend, it enables the aircraft to fly at a lower speed, making it possible to land on and take off from shorter runways. #MHDidYouKnow
07.01.2022 What are you most proud of as a Malaysian? Share your story with us in the comments below. Or tag us in your photos just like @theavination in this shot! #FleetFriday

05.01.2022 Have you ever noticed that our A350 comes with a distinct black masking around the windshield? Here’s why: The A350 XWB is the first ever aircraft from Airbus with curved cockpit glasses. These cockpit windows offer more than just the most futuristic aesthetic with a distinctive look. The new windshield enhances the overall aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft. So now you know!

03.01.2022 No, not because it looks cute The vertical stabilizer or the vertical tail is a component that lives up to its namesake by stabilizing the airplane. If an airplane encounters strong winds, the vertical stabilizer will prevent it from shifting off under the force of the wind. And now you know!... #MHDidYouKnow
01.01.2022 Immerse yourself in stunning green landscape at Sekinchan's lush paddy fields. This scenic spot is not only great for photos but offers a relaxing stroll. Hop on a bike if you prefer. 01.01.2022 Just as the Americans have Halloween, the Chinese have the Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Zhong Yuan Jie in Chinese. The Hungry Ghost festival is celebrated by Taoist and Buddhist Chinese throughout Asia during the seventh lunar month to honour the dearly departed. During this time, it is believed that ghosts and spirits, including deceased ancestors, come out from the underworld to visit the living. To appease the ghosts, believers would burn and set fire to fake "hel...l" money and other symbols of material objects for the spirits to use in the afterlife, leaving food out as offerings for the hungry, and burning incense and joss sticks. Sometimes lanterns and small boats are floated on waterways to give directions to lost souls. Throughout Singapore and Chinese enclaves in Malaysia such as Penang and Melaka, the Chinese go all out to feed and entertain the roaming ghosts. The festivities reach a peak during Ghost Day, the 15th day of the ghost month. This is the best time to go around town and witness the colourful, sensory overload spectacle. Try and catch a traditional Chinese Opera show during the festival - a popular mode of entertainment for the wandering spirits, including 'getai' (literally song stage in Chinese, or live stage performances), where karaoke singers belt out Chinese tunes over blaring loudspeakers, singing tales of gods and goddesses and techno dance numbers. Just remember not to sit in the front row, unless you want to rub shoulders with the special guests' #hungryghostfestival #MalaysiaAirlines
01.01.2022 An A380 weighs approximately 589 tons. Ever wondered how planes of such an incredible size execute safe and smooth landings? A safely controlled standstill comes from enormous brakes, thrust reversers and flaps that are used to slow down from a transonic cruise at almost 950km per hour to a crawl in a matter of minutes!
