25.01.2022 Last Saturday, From Tropical Arts - 15 actors, 5 car pool teams, 2 locals, 1 projector, a bazillion bags and boxes, landed in Atherton, amongst 5 different the...atre groups for the 59th annual FNQATA One Act Play Festival! Through the care of our hosts, Atherton Performing Arts, we teched, costumed, make-upped and got prepared at the legendary Silo Road Theatre. Sharing the well-loved igloo theatre with actors of all ages from Mt St Bernards College students and teachers and APAs junior and senior groups and the theatrical feedback was given by actor/director/teacher, Arminelle Flemming, of Theatre Inc in Townsville. The socialising was also a great mix of many well-loved theatre makers and performing artists, families and theatre goers from across the Tablelands and beyond. It was an epic experience which gave Tropical Arts a final reprise of Shakespeare’s Sonnets and Verse. Not everyone could make it, but those who went: Avril, Joy, Fujie, Owen, Kevin, Julya, Jarrod, Dean, Jordie, Lily, Alicia, Ricky, Jacqui, Darren and Robinson. Many thanks to the Festival Coordinator, Jacqui Stephens and congratulations to APA for a great festival. Highlight? All of the actors in all of the plays!!!

24.01.2022 After a show, we often brush off audience compliments with, "It's nothing...", "Thanks, but...", "I didn't like...". HOWEVER, in doing so we risk devaluing our...selves and spoiling that audience member's positive memory of your show. Next time bring the love to that memory, your show, and yourself by simply saying, with a smile, "thank you" :) Happy Cupid's Day y'all. XxXxX

23.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3NX3JNpH9U Adrian Norman recently sat down with former Marine and Navy SEAL Craig Sawyer to discuss the issue of human traffick...ing. Craig runs an organization called Veterans For Child Rescue, which was founded to help bring an end to child trafficking. He also recently released a documentary called Contraland to help raise awareness of this pervasive evil plaguing our country. In this broad ranging interview, he exposes the true nature and scope of trafficking in the United States. https://www.vets4childrescue.org/ https://www.contralandmovie.com/

16.01.2022 Want to have a go at being Secretary? Unfortunately our Secretary has found that she is unable to continue with her Secretarial duties, which means the position of Secretary is again open. If you or another member you know are interested in taking on this position could you please let me know. It is imperative for the running of the club that the role of Secretary be filled. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

08.01.2022 In May we were delivered the sad news that Sandi Oswald, who has done a considerable amount with APA over the years, passed away. Sandi was a fit and energetic person who loved singing and dancing. She was a tremendous asset when we were singing old war songs at several venues during the 100 years ANZAC commemorations. Sandi is sadly missed by all who knew her.

04.01.2022 Many thanks to those who were able to attend the AGM on Monday 27th July. We achieved our quorum and formed a new committee under the direction of returning officer and patron Peter Hodge. I have attached my presidents’ report (email only). You may be interested in seeing what we have been up to over the last twelve months. . The new positions are as follows: President Jacqui Stephens... Vice President Sarah Riber Secretary Linda McMillan Treasurer Judy Snelling Committee Member Anastasia Brown Committee Member Kathryn Ghelfi Committee Member Rosa Lee Long Plus Responsible Person (to run Committee through relevant Acts) Helen Cooper Fire and Emergency Officer Alistair Hart Librarian Judy Nelson Grants Officer to be advised . All going well with covid, we are holding the FNQATA 1 Act Play Festival from 30th October through to 1st November at the APA Theatre. We are working on various plays for this occasion. If you have an idea for a play or want to do a particular one please let me know. . -Martin Kerr has started on rehearsals for the Merry Regiment of Women, but still needs actors for the roles of Kate the Shrew and Romeo; King Henry too if possible. Kate could be played by a woman between the ages of 20 and 50. This is a good role needing fire, passion and a dramatic presence. Romeo should be played if possible by a young man between 13 and 20 years. This is a small role requiring a sense of romance - not a large commitment. Also needing to be filled is the role of King Henry - a slightly larger male role (30 70 years) requiring a strong sense of presence. Could you please contact Martin or me as soon as possible if you are interested. Martin’s phone number is 0400 769 314 and his email is [email protected]. The next rehearsal is this Tuesday 4th August from 5pm 7pm. If you know of anyone who might be interested please encourage them to contact us. While there are ways of coping without getting extra men for the male roles it is imperative that we find a Kate. Please help if you can. . Meanwhile: -Tuesday Singing continues on Tuesdays from 10am 12 noon; -Youth Theatre continues on Thursdays from 4pm 5.30pm; the young people are working on The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet; -Script Club continues on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month out at the Station Café, Platypus Park, Atherton, meaning the next meet will be on Thursday 13th August from 10.30am 12.30pm new people are welcome; and finally -Bavarian Dancing (socially distanced) will hopefully be starting up again soon we’ll keep you posted. . Cheers and all the best! Jacqui President . . . . Posted on Facebook by Louise Anderson-Clemence.

04.01.2022 As the corona cloud looms ever closer so do we close up and play safe. No more APA gatherings at our Silo Road Theatre for some time. We will review the situation at the end of April and keep you in the loop. People involved in our different groups have been notified that our activities have been postponed. . CANCELLED 26th March 2020 due to virus pandemic to be resumed when appropriate. These include: -Tuesday Singing 10am 12pm... -Youth Theatre Thursday 4pm 5.30pm -The House (1 act play) already cast -The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet (1 act play) Auditions -Bavarian Dancing Thursday 7pm 9pm -Doggies (1 act play) Rehearsals -Lighting Workshop with Emily Allen for Tech Crew. -Merry Regiment of Women (1 act play) Auditions Those people who have shown interest in auditioning for this play will be sent/given a script. If there are others of you who are interested also, please let me know and Martin and I will ensure that you get a script. . It is not known at this stage when the 1 Act Play Festival will be held. We are at present investigating options. . Let’s hope we can all stay safe in our homes in the beautiful Tablelands until this troubling time is past. Very best wishes, Jacqui Stephens President APA Posted on Facebook by Louise Anderson-Clemence.
