25.01.2022 Day 1 of the ADVX back in 2015 caught a few by surprise. The sandhills of Lanclelin just north of Perth was not known by any Eastern state riders till this day. Just 30th May 2020 we will be there again. Those riders in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne wishing to use general freight should go to a triumph dealership in the coming weeks and ask for a free bike crate. We still have spots available on this ride. 14 days of incredible riding 5400 km. Here is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RR9nbMU88Q

24.01.2022 ADVX 2020 permit information for Gunbarrel HWY. I have just spoken to the Ngaanyatjarra Council and we are still okay to go through this country and fuel up at ...Warburton. They do not want people entering the community so we will just be going in and out of the fuel stops which we do anyway. I will ask all riders to bring a mask and wear them when at the fuel stops and simply leave their gloves on when fueling up and buying supplies. This ride is capped at 99 riders. We still have places available. FINKE desert race has been canceled but on our last advx only 10 riders watched this event because many were focused on crossing Australia. We will now stagger the start over two days and allow riders to leave the 29th May 2020 at 9-00 am which will allow them to ride out to Steep Point if they wish. The sweep team will not leave Perth till 7-00 am 30th May 2020. GPS units will be loaded in Perth this year. APC rally has always had the belief that large groups have a higher casualty rate so our method of not having regroups and allowing riders to go at their own pace and having the field spread out really does fit with management techniques of the covid 19 virus. 24.01.2022 ADVX 2020 Perth to Byron Bay has been postponed till 3rd October 2020. If this date is not workable it will be 29th May 2021. The reason for 3rd October is that is because the government have advised that we can expect most of the current restrictions to last 6 months and we must respect the fact that this ride can only be done in cooler weather. For those who have booked flights, you can get a 12-month credit at present. Accom is the same.

24.01.2022 This should be interesting. I will run a one day ride in this period so people from out of town can come and do both.

24.01.2022 Sportztrip is an adventure sport news service. Coming soon https://drive.google.com//1FNlJOUfiTfwBoK5SLYW6vDaCe/view

20.01.2022 If we had the top 25 desert riders from the last 20 years take on the ADVX 2020 course. 5200 km Perth to Byron Bay. I wonder who would be in the top 10. If we set the course at 800 km per day and the riders had their mechanics and the old safari support setups who do you think would prevail. Here is my stab at the top 25 desert riders based on results and my limited knowledge. Please remember that its a navigation ride. 1. Toby Price 2. Andy Caldecott (RIP)... 3. Ben Grabham 4. Andy Hayden 5. John Hederics 6. Steve Chapman 7. Jacob Smith 8. Todd Smith 9. Michael Goddard 9. Jamie Cunningham 10. Rod Faggotter 11. Allan Cunningham 12. Stephen Greenfield 13. Steve Riley 14. Rick Hall 15. Brad Williscroft 16. Randal Gregory 17. Stephen Gall 18. Phil Lovett 19. David Walsh 20. David Armstrong 21. Paul Sinderbury 22.Adrian Channing 23. Ivan Long 24.David Schwarz 25. Andrew Coaker If you have won a six day outright you get an automatic entry. Wattsy, Milner and Chucky would be very interesting wildcards. Chad Reed has also got more mongrel in him than a junkyard dog so he deserves a big auto entry as well. To see more about the course go to https://apcrally.net//advx-2019-australia-crossing-25th-may

20.01.2022 ADVX 30th May 2020 info update. There are a couple of things you should be getting sorted. 1. Fitness regime. Sorry but this is a real ride across a very big country. The truth is that the better shape you are in the better decisions you will make when things go wrong. Everyone after day 3 is buggered, most riders take a couple of nights camping before they are used to it. Some will never get used to it. Most riders are not about to go into a hardcore fitness program but I c...an highly recommend just doing walks at a quick pace for over an hour three times per week. Do the walks when you would normally be having a beer is another good tip and take your partner so they can see some type of positive with you riding adventure bikes across countries. 2.Tyres : Try and get a MOTOoz Tractionator adventure rear tyre now and keep it in the shed there could be a shortage. 3. Fuel range required is 515 km of sand riding which is 700 km of normal riding. The cheapest and most successful way of adding range is 12-liter bladders form Liquid containment https://www.liquidcontainment.com.au//12-Litre-Touring-Bla 4. Carry a spot tracker and get your emergency contact details sorted. You don't need live tracking because it is so expensive. I would suggest GPSOZ because they are on sale for $185 You need to buy Lithium batteries only. https://shop.gpsoz.com.au/coll/specials/products/spot-gen-3 5. Gps I am now recommending is the Garmin Motana 610 with a motorcycle pack. $999 (You may see them cheaper at other stores but they will not include a topo mapset and the hardwiring kit and rubberized marine mount which is all stuff you need. This GPS is the same as the Montana 650 and 680 it just does not have a camera that we never used. https://shop.gpsoz.com.au//g/products/garmin-montanna-610

20.01.2022 that is a hit .

19.01.2022 ADVX Perth to Byron bay 30th May 2020 Track information Western Australia Leg 4th January 2020 approx 60 mm of rain fell on the W.A leg which is Perth to Wa...rburton . This includes the Gunbarrell track. Northern territory Leg Warburton to Birdsville has approx 100 mm and 25mm fell just a couple of days ago. Birdsville has just had rain with 67mm falling in the last 24 hours . Thargomindah has had 100 mm since Jan 2020 there has been 70mm in the last 24 hours It looks as though the desert will be stunning this year. If you are keen we still have entries open.

18.01.2022 We are often using parts of this road when running rides . It seems to take forever when you ride it so it will take a long time to clean this up.

18.01.2022 Sorry but the ride planned for this sunday from dayboro has to be postponed. Just have a bike issue which can’t be sorted.

18.01.2022 Sportztrip is looking for adventure sport journalist around the world.

16.01.2022 APC Rally New tracks are coming. The truth is that from 2012 to 2017 I was doing 50,000 km per year to go and put the APC rally rides together. I unfortunately had 3 pretty serious crashes but that just comes with the territory. When in full navigation mode you make mistakes. The unfortunate part is that another tour operator just copied the tracks and then even used them for a manufacturer's rallys. Hey, no one owns the tracks so that is just business but the end result i...s that customers were just doing the same tracks again and again. Unfortunately, some great connector tracks were ridden by large groups in wet conditions and now those tracks are closed. I get that the APC rally rides were a massive challenge for riders and we have taken that on board and will offer easier rides in future. The good news is that APC rally are back in track finding mode. If you want to ride a track first and do it for $100 per day then come and join us when the Corona virus is over. Just a quick note to all the Foreign-owned Motorcycle companies in Australia. Your retailers are being smashed and there are about 4000 jobs at risk. Please don't make these small Australian businesses take on bikes when there are little chances of sales being made during this crisis. Don't try and diddle the Australian tax payer by having these business's take debt on bikes and then have them apply for Government grants. Its your time to shine and help the retailers, the companies that do the right thing will hopefully be well supported by the Australian retail customers in future.

13.01.2022 This time 4 years ago I was on day 2 of my Australian crossing here are some maps showing how things played out. Day 1. started at Steep point at 5 Am on the mo...st western point of Australia. highlights were a clean run from Steep point to the Overlander in about 2 hours and then another clean run thru the Gunbarrel at night . Started at 5 am and rode till 1 pm in the morning and then had 4 hours sleep. I was about 60 km form Warburton when I made camp. 1690 km for the day Day 2 Highlights were another clean run on awesome tracks and got to Mt dare at about 4 -00 pm then rode into the Simpson desert and got about halfway .I had picked the bike up about 10 times and got a flat from letting my tyres down too much. Stopped at 1-00 am after being pinned under the bike for 40 minutes. 1335 km for the day Day 3 Rode out of the Simpson and got to Birdsville about 11-00 am thinking the record attempt was out of reach but had a can of coke and a Mars bar and then kept riding to Byron bay where I arrived about 7-00 am the next morning .2035 km for the day There are 2-3 hours at least that can be taken off this time with the perfect run. No fuel dumps were used which meant I carried 70 litres of fuel into the Simpson and that is when things got real. Hit and killed 3 roos on night 3 so used up some luck especially when I had no riding jacket because I lost it in the desert during a crash. I never run a jacket in the desert so I save water, that decision made for a cool night between Quiplie an Bollon. Stuart Mitchell came and gave me a jacket at Bollon and a sandwich at about 1 am in the morning. Glad I had my turn hopefully someone will read this and think ."Yeh with a bit of luck I could get this!" 70 hours 33 mins.

10.01.2022 NBN VS 5 G . I have just had NBN put on at my office and about 6 months previously I got a 5g Wireless hub that can run 20 devices. My theory was that I needed... an updated system at home to get more speed and it would be a good back up at work if there were delays with NBN hook ups. NBN turned my internet at the office off 5 days prior to getting it going at my office. I was told my phone system would need to be replaced because NBN was not compatible. Which is another cost. So I thought I would just share this info since the NBN has been a massive drain on the Australia taxpayer and we still have about 70% of Australia without any mobile coverage and 5g towers could have been rolled out at a lot less cost then NBN and people outside the city would actually get phone reception as well. During the bushfire events, lack of communication was seen as one of our biggest weaknesses when dealing with an emergency. In summary the 5g hub is quicker then NBN where I am. If you dont get 5g in an area it will pick 4g and 3 g. 20 users can use this hub it is simply great technology. If you are in a 5g area and you want speed look at the speedtest that I added to this post and then you be the judge on whether all our footpaths around Australia should have been dug up an not more phone towers put up. cost of NBN 51 billion, average 5g cell tower cost is $150,000 for a large rural tower and a roof top tower is only $20,000. Therefor 340,000 rural cell towers could have been built in theory. Currently, there are have 7772 towers in Australia. See more

07.01.2022 Just a quick update. I am recommending that riders fit the moto oz tractionator adventure on the rear and use what ever they like on the front, my personal cho...ice is the Perielli Scorpion Rally. I believe that riders who use this tyre selection will not need to change tyres at Alice springs as we have done in the past. I have done 3 runs using these tyres and have not needed to change them. This is not only a cost saving but it saves you about 4 hours when you are in Alice Springs and all riders feel like doing is having a shower and sleeping in a good bed and watching the Finke race . Stress free run across Australia is only achieved with spending some money before you go. Please don’t go and buy a sticker kit and a rally outfit before you have done the following . We want you to finish and be part of a very small number of people who have completed the entire course and have crossed Australia. 1. New tyres and new ultra- heavy duty tubes (Bridgestone , Michellin or Motoz) 4 mm and run them at 28 PSI and ensure the valve stem nut is not done up. 2. New wheel bearings front and rear wheels 3. New chain and steel sprockets 4. New brake pads 5. Loctite every bolt and make sure subframe bolts are in good shape and are tight. 6. Kick stand needs to have a foot on it so the bike will stand in sand. 7. Cheapest way to get 520 km fuel range are fuel bladders from liquid containment . These need to be organised so when full the weight of the bladder sits on the seat other wise they will fail. The tie down point on bladders will not support the weight of the bladder. 8. Air filter needs to be clean and the edges greased to ensure it is a snug fit. This is a long distant ride if you ride in another riders dust continuously you will not finish this ride. 9. Fresh oil is essential because when in the desert your clutch must be preserved at all cost. 10. Camping gear . Spoon, Leatherman ,biker swag ,cigarette lighter, lightweight helinox chair ,lightweight blue 3m* 3m tarp 2 cans of food and you are done. 11. Use canvass pannier because when you crash in the sand you will not break them . Go to supercheap and buy a set of 4 lightweight ratchet straps and then load all your gear into the panniers and put your swag and tarp on the back and then cut all the straps so only 4 inches is left once they are done up. Two are holding the swag and chair on the rear and two go around your panniers and your pannier sub frame that hold them in place. Once again canvass pannier tie down points will often break without the assistance of a tie down. Cloths for advx 4 pairs of undies 4 pairs of socks 2 polo shirts 1 polar fleece jacket 1 pair of jeans 1 pair of runners 1 pair of thongs 1 pair of shorts 1 wet weather xxl jacket to go over your rally gear when it gets cold . If it rains you will be working so hard you wont need this jacket on . Put all of these in a dry bag except the shoes and the wet jacket. This should all fit in one pannier put your spare front ultra-heavy duty tube in the bottom of the pannier before your dry bag. Then shoes and wet jacket on top. Your other pannier will have your tool roll ,food ,spare 1.5 litre of water ,spare parts such as fuel filters, electric pump, toilet paper , If you have room put a spare rear tube in as well. Some were surprised when a new record was set crossing Australia without support ,the truth is that Craig Hartley had taught me how to set up an adventure bike and what gear to carry and all I did was execute a plan . The above set up works and hasn’t changed in about 30 years . APC ride system The advx is a unique ride where faster riders may be 1000 km ahead of slower riders after 3 days . There are no regroups because it would just cause congestion at fuel stops and put pressure on the very limited accom that is available. Every rider needs to be as self-sufficient as possible because waiting for our sweep vehicles can really suck. If we had regroups it would also mean that slower riders will get overtaken by quicker riders twice a day which can quickly lift the risk level on a ride because of the dust . Here is a quick video to show some set up tips. Some info such as tyres have been updated . https://www.facebook.com/apcrally/videos/816949961673650/

05.01.2022 Well done to Andrew Houlihan who has just completed the Africa ECO race. Andrew has been running rides for APC RALLY and is preparing for DAKAR. There is some s...erious terrain in this event so just finishing is a massive achievement. Like most ex desert racers I look at these photos and think it would be nice to just go and ride this one without racing but then you realize there is no way you cannot hunt down the rider in front of you because its all you have ever known.
