16.01.2022 Here is a simple and informative post from the Victorian Department of Health which lists key protective measures. Rutherglen Apex is doing our little bit to help flatten the curve by putting our face-to-face meetings on hold for now - we will be giving video meetings a go. Small changes in our behaviours can add up to having big impacts for the community, yes even in the Rutherglen area right now even though no cases of the virus have been confirmed here yet. Flattening the curve = saving lives.
14.01.2022 With many of our members having school-aged children Rutherglen Apex would like to say thanks a million to all the teachers and staff working beyond the call of duty and in unexpected circumstances to switch over to a remote learning model. 12.01.2022 Hi folks, sorry for the heavy nature of this post, but the Coronavirus issue (1 in 100 year pandemic event) is super-serious and we all need to take action now ...in Rutherglen and elsewhere to avoid heartbreaking impacts (unfortunately including deaths in OUR community). This includes implementing social distancing (or perhaps better termed physical distancing with social solidarity) of at least 1.5 metres, good hygiene, cleaning surfaces, washing hands diligently and properly (see WHO website), cancelling non-essential social gatherings, and working from home where possible. A recent credible study estimates that Australia will run out of intensive care beds between 7 and 10 April without us all working together to take more serious action. Any one of us, even if we're usually healthy, may need one of these beds unexpectedly even for non-Coronavirus issues (e.g. for car accidents, heart attack, bad appendicitis etc) - and ICU treatment would be key to survival - IF there is a bed. So please - we must all do what we can to reduce our risk of getting this virus. I know it is hard to get your head around all this, and it particularly hard for the young and healthy to really take on board that this applies to you too. None of us has immunity to this thing. A good percentage of us will end up pretty damn crook. Another percentage of us won't make it. There will plenty of time after this is all over to catch up on social events etc. Here is a post from a doctor from one of my wife’s medical networks. Please share this post and spread the word.
11.01.2022 It is a very different Anzac Day this year but great to see many wreaths laid at the Rutherglen War Memorial today. Lest we forget.
