25.01.2022 TV repairs, Atherton Tablelands. I'm probably the last surviving TV tech on the Tablelands, repairing large screen TVs, DVD recorders & satellite decoders. Authorized Service Agent for Panasonic. Repairs to most major brands out of warranty, including Panasonic, LG, Samsung etc. Minimum workshop fees do apply. Some brands are a no go due to there their policies in parts supply etc. Drop me line for more information. Insurance quotes also can be provided for storm, water & other damage. Fees also apply

24.01.2022 https://www.channelnews.com.au/breaking-news-panasonic-qui/ A sad day for the TV industry when one of the better brands leaves TV manufacture behind because of cheaper quality Chinese products taking over. I've been a warranty agent for Panasonic for many years & prefer to deal with them over most other brands. Quality products, good service policies. What a shame.

23.01.2022 VAST satellite TV service, Dimbulah, Petford, Almaden next Wednesday the 11th of August. Drop me a line if you anything TV related done

23.01.2022 Do it yourself Electrical repairs, don't make it the last thing you ever do. Just in case you've not seen me post it before, if you're not suitably licenced or trained to do Electrical repairs & that includes working on TVs, Microwave ovens or any electrical appliance, don't do it. Not only is it a legal requirement here in Queensland to be licenced, and let me tell you the fines are huge for unlicensed electrical work, the risk of serious injury & death from electrocution ar...e also high. Trying to save yourself a few dollars by doing it yourself is not worth the risk. What if you repair your own microwave, it catches on fire & burns the house down. People could be severely burned, suffer from lung damage or die. Then to add insult to injury, insurance won't cover a thing because you are not licenced. If someone is injured or dies because of your "negligence" you also risk jail time. DON'T DO UNLICENSED ELECTRICAL WORK! See more

22.01.2022 Atherton TV transmitter site is off the air, no channels transmitting. Before you start madly ringing to book me in, after the storms last night, the transmitter site has obviously lost power or all transmitters have been knocked out.. Resist the urge to re-tune or re-scan your TV. Give it some time & check with your neighbors to see if it has come on. But be aware some residences in Atherton pick up up their reception from Bellenden Ker which functioning fine. If however you still have no reception after you know the transmitters are back up running, give me a call then

21.01.2022 Service work during the Pandemic; Terms & conditions. I would like to clarify a couple things during this time. As I'm only a small fish in this big sea, I don't have huge resources at my disposal which means I often pay up front for the equipment to do your jobs. And the few companies I do have accounts with, still expect me to pay on time. Some will be temporarily taking guys like me off our accounts & we will have to pay as we go. This means in turn I have to be strict on... my trading terms too. Normal day to day service work will have to be paid as we go, as before. Businesses who are on account, will remain on account but no new business accounts will be opened. These will be required to pay on completion just like Mr & Mrs Citizen down the street. Special order in parts for electronic repairs or unusual accessories will need to paid for before I order them, unless I can order that item from a supplier who I have an account with. But payment on completion definitely. A few people are already suggesting I should run around doing jobs & wait 6 months for payment. Sorry, but that's not going to happen. One guy who suggested this has plenty of money, still working, charging up front for his work. No waiting 6 months for his money. I have also had one person ask me to come to their home do work for them in another town closer to Cairns, even though they are under mandatory isolation. Hello! If you are under forced isolation it not only means you can't leave the home but I can't enter it, unless I then go home into isolation myself for 14 days. If you are over 70, then it means I can come as it's only a recommendation to stay home. Unless of course mandatory is enforced. At this point the government won't be giving me any money unless I can't work at all & what they will give me will not cover my normal monthly business expenses. Not even close. As a reminder, TV repairs, TV antenna & satellite TV work is not considered essential, so if we go into forced lock down, so do I. If we all use a little common sense & understanding, there shouldn't be any misunderstandings or arguments. Stay safe during this time See more

18.01.2022 Free PAY TV, don't get caught. A device for your TV with a friendly name but not necessarily a happy outcome. A colleague mentioned he saw a paid advertisement on Facebook that claims getting free Stan, Netflix, Foxtel etc. I haven't spotted the ad but I have researched the product & it can't give any of those subscription services for free. What it does is stream those services just the same as a Google Chromecast or Apple TV. Sure you don't pay a subscription for the device but you certainly do have to pay $50 or whatever the going rate is & wait 3 weeks or more for delivery. Remember, anything that that circumvents a paid subscription so you get it for free is illegal to sell & to use. Nothing's free, someone, somewhere is paying.

18.01.2022 Australia Post, Couriers & delays. Thanks COVID-19. In my line of work I have to order parts & equipment from many different suppliers every week, all of which have different procedures & services offered to get equipment to you. With COVID-19 causing havoc with Social Distancing & Sanitising measures, I understand some delays may occur. But these have been deemed essential services and as long as current Health protocols are adhered too, added delays should be minimal. SHOU...LD. Spray the hell out of the boxes with sanitiser, fine by me. So tell me how one company in Sydney I rang & ordered equipment urgent on Air Freight last Thursday, won't be delivered until this coming Tuesday? Well over a week. OK, we had two public holidays in between, but at the very least it should have been here yesterday, Thursday at the latest. I would have been happy with today, Friday, at least I wouldn't have a customer ready run me down in their car. However, I ordered from a different company in Sydney via online Tuesday & parts arrived Thursday, only one day later than normal. I get that, totally. So why the big difference? Australia Post, that's why. One Air freight company uses Australia Post for final delivery here & between air depots & the other uses independent contractors from whoa to go. But hang on, Australia Post uses independent contractors too. What the?????? See more

12.01.2022 Pet dumping SCUMBAGS! You low life rubbish! I just heard that a high incidence of pet dumping has started due to morons thinking they will catch the virus from their cats & dogs. You can't, OK. If I hear of anyone dumping pets, I will in a heartbeat dob you into the RSPCA, no exceptions even if you are my best customer. If I see you doing it, I have a baseball bat for such occasions and are happy to give you free kneecap adjustments. If for whatever reason you can't look aft...er your pets, there are plenty of other options. Talk to friends, family, neighbors & the animal welfare groups first. A last resort is having them put down, but at least it will be a bit more painless. Don't turn a blind eye, these people are criminals & should be treated as such. See more

09.01.2022 I was just prompted again by someone thinking they might have a crack at their own TV to see what could be wrong, to supply the link below about doing your own Electrical work. Up to a $40,000 fine should be enough to change your mind, don't you think? How about injury or death, is it worth it? Then the fines are $600,000 for an individual & $3,000,000 for business. And you could possibly also go to jail on top of the fine. https://www.worksafe.qld.gov.au//homeowners-and-co/dontdiy

08.01.2022 I hope you all are staying safe & well. At this point I'm still working but with a dodgy knee, which means I'm moving a bit slow & some jobs I won't be able to do in the short term. But so far I'm still climbing ladders & getting up on some roofs. But crawling through ceilings is out for awhile. Bare in mind if there's a lock down, TV repairs, TV antenna & satellite TV work won't be considered an essential service. I'll have to check but the only thing I may be able to do wou...ld be microwave oven repairs for organisations that are considered essential. We should all be aware of COVID19 social distancing etc. so I wont go into all that. Most of my suppliers are still trading with no problem but I have been told that a lot of overseas manufacturers have moved to "cash accounts". This means they no longer give my suppliers an account, which in turn may mean they may have to do the same for me. In the short term it won't make much difference to supplying equipment but it may make difference in the future to how much stock I carry. With customers who continue to support me there will be plenty of online & over the phone support for you. It may become necessary to only do Eftpos & online payments soon as handling cash may be stopped for health reasons. I have portable EFTPOS with pay wave & i can provide bank details for internet banking for equipment & services. So the banks & Scott Morrison will be happy. As things unfold I'll let you guys know. We'll get through this, so stay positive & healthy. See more

06.01.2022 Atherton residents, the ABC transmitter on Halloran's Hill is off the air since last night. DON'T re-tune or re-scan your TVs. If you do you'll lose the ABC & you won't know when it comes back on. And please note; not all Atherton residents receive their ABC from the local transmitter, most get it from the main transmitter at Mount Belllenden Ker. Be patient & Auntie will be back on the air.

05.01.2022 Wall mounted TVs & warranty. I had a situation the other day where I had to do a warranty job on a TV that was wall mounted. The screws had been damaged by the person who mounted it, requiring them to be drilled out & the screw threads painstakingly removed. This took a little over an hour to do, over & above the repair. And the customer refused to pay for that time, as he believed that was the fault of the TV. And this was a highly educated man. Obviously not educated in com...mon sense. So obviously some people may not be aware but your statutory warranty does not include getting your TV on & off the wall bracket. Why? Please read; 1: Your TV almost certainly was not supplied from the manufacturer with a wall bracket. The retailer may have thrown one in the deal but that is not the manufacturer. Therefore the warranty doesn't cover it. 2: Wall mounting large screen TVs & removing them is often a two man job. Most warranty companies only pay a fixed rate for one person to do the job. Some offer a laughable amount extra for a second person just to help carry the TV but honestly it doesn't cover paying someone to help you 3: The manufacturer pricing doesn't include delivering, mounting or removing a TV from a wall mount. Your warranty entitles you to in house service for genuine failures to within reason if your TV is above a certain size. The retailer however may choose to deliver it, mount it & include it in their price but that is then between the customer & the retailer, not the manufacturer. 4: Poorly installed mounts can damage the internals of the TV, too long a screw, wrong type of bracket for the job. There is also the risk of the TV pulling off the wall if not mounted correctly causing damage to the unit, building or even people. None of which is the manufacturer's responsibility. It may look like I'm favouring the manufacturer's of TVs but I'm not. The poor repairer is the one who has to front the customer & deal with all this. We can't charge the warranty companies extra, we are on a fixed rate, that the majority of the time barely cover's our time. We also have to warranty our job back to the manufacturer, even if they supply us with a faulty replacement part, we are expected to include that as part of our guarantee to them. If you think it's unreasonable to pay for the removal of the TV, then get who installed it to remove it & see if they included a 12 month or 3 year unlimited removal & re-installation free service

05.01.2022 A bit of my history in the TV/Electronics industry for those who might be interested 1979: Started at Roe's Electronic Sales & Service, Port Lincoln as a subcontract technician/shop assistant. Taught basic electrical & TV antenna theory by the other members of the company. Thrown in the deep end & told to fix things or go home. I learnt how to fix things very quickly. Also had to work out installing car radios & CB radios with next to no help. Installing TV & radio systems o...Continue reading

03.01.2022 The planned service trip to the Mount Surprise & Georgetown area for tomorrow the 25th of September will have to be postponed due to last minute cancellations & a lack of interest.
