24.01.2022 Thank you to all who generously donated gifts the Joyce Jut Giving Tree. We did our community proud and hopefully brought some much needed joy and Christmas spirit to those in need this year.
20.01.2022 Danielle Crotty Volunteer of the year award Thank you to those that took the time to send in nominations. It is good to acknowledge those that put the community first and take time out of their lives for others without financial gain.... It is with GREAT honour that in our inaugural year the committee is able to present this award to Kate Gay! Danielle would be extremely pleased that her friend has been acknowledged for her kind heart and strong character. Kate, we will catch up with you and present you with your award when you aren't up a tree or on a road somewhere. Congratulations
17.01.2022 It has been one year since we lost our beautiful friend Danielle It was 1:45am on Sunday 8th December 2019 - the Carols crew had just packed up the oval and, although on a high, knew our friend Dan was in hospital. The news was heartbreaking. Not only was Dan a great friend she was an outstanding member of the Community. She volunteered on numerous commitees, not only in Appin but also throughout the wider Community.... In honour of the service and commitment Danielle showed we have created a perpetual award - "The Danielle Crotty Volunteer of the year" award. Nominations are now open and the winner will be announced on December 23rd. Nomination criteria below: 1. Notable voluntary service within a community group/s. (Please list) 2. Acts as an ambassador for the community group/s - acting and working for the best interests of the community and the group/s they are representing. (Does not bring the group into disrepute) 3. Resides in Appin (or conducts their volunteer work in/for the township of Appin) 4. Have volunteered in the previous 12 months for a legitimate not-for-profit, community group or other entity which engages in a safe and legal manner. 15.01.2022 Our first nomination is in "Danielle Crotty Volunteer of the year" "I would love to nominate Emma Meddows for the award please.... Emma has tirelessly volunteered with WIRES for the last few years working predominantly with the koala population of Appin. She has attended rescue calls at all hours of the day and night and scraped many animals off Appin road, while healing the hearts of those who have stopped to help. But by far her biggest success has been her amazing work in the critical care of koalas. She is known all over the state now for her amazing caring ability, she has taken in many an Appin and Campbelltown koala and nursed them back to health, but has also put herself out there to assist koalas from all over the state, from the Nattai national park to as far south as the Victorian border. She had one special Appin koala in care named Ruben who came into care with cataracts In his eyes in early September 2019 and who required daily attendance and feeding. She has recently released him back into the wild in November 2020 but she has not had even 1 day off since He came in to care in September 2019. All this while holding down a full time job as an Assistant Principle of a primary school educating our little people. Emma is not a person who blows her own horn, she is a quiet achiever who just gets in and does what needs to be done, whenever it needs to be done. She is compassionate and caring and goes out of her way to make sure all creatures (and people) great and small are looked after and she regularly puts their needs before her own....All qualities that were the essence of Danielle, which is why I think she would make the perfect choice for the first recipient of the award."
12.01.2022 And the legacy goes on ... GIFT APPEAL Although our Annual Carols Event is not happening this year, are still holding the Joyce Jut Gift Appeal. ... For numerous years , Joyce was selflessly organising a collection of Christmas gifts all year to be donated to those in need, it would be a wonderful thing to continue this for the late Joyce. Gifts can be dropped to Appin Pharmacy We encourage you to get involved with this so we can spread good will and kindness at this time of year. Note: We can wrap for you if you don’t have wrapping yet. Please label gift with age and gender. Remember to think of all ages from young ones to the elderly
