17.01.2022 The lovely and talented Emma Bosworth has some places in her Wild Mountain Songs program. Songwriter friends who live nearby, you have until 12pm Wednesday to put an EOI for Wild Mountains Songs. I've had to cancel all flights coming in due to the recent rise of COVID cases - so we have nine local places to fill. I'm quite sad as we had some incredible talent coming over, but I'm also looking forward to the "family campfire vibe", and considering we've all been so isolated lately, it might be just what the doctor ordered. 14.01.2022 #ausmusictshirtday Support Act and subsidiary CrewCare are an amazing music charity, helping musicians and crew in need and Ausmusic t-shirt day is all about raising money for these worthy charities. If you watched the recent Powderfinger One Night Lonely performance, you would know all profits from the shirt I’m wearing went to Support Act and Beyond Blue, helping musicians and industry workers through the sudden shutdown of the industry due to COVID-19.... Just like the bargain price of the early Powderfinger gig, advertised in the poster behind me, you could spend $5 on a donation to Support Act and know it will go to care for the Australian musicians who provide so much joy to our lives. It’s only a small amount but will mean so much to our industry and those in need. Remember also that bands could do with your direct support by buying their music and/or merchandise. As a former venue manager/booker, I have many friends in similar roles and have been thinking of them throughout the COVID restrictions. The venues badly need our help as they are the forgotten link in all this awfulness. Please support live music venues by purchasing tickets to shows as activity starts to happen again, buy some drinks and food if they offer it. Go out lots and take your friends. Share this post to alert others that our venues need our help. Share your own photo on your profile wearing an Australian music or band t-shirt, donate to Support Act and encourage your friends to do the same. I will you for it and the music industry will thank you. You can find out more about Ausmusic t-shirt day and donate here: https://www.ausmusictshirtday.org.au/ Credits: Artwork: Andrea Smith Photo taken by a talented music creative, working on a new skill set that will be borne into the world very soon. 05.01.2022 A last reflection for International Women's Day 2021. I'm proud to be a woman who has forged my way in a very male-dominated industry. I'm proud that I found my own path by telling a boss to get lost when he treated me like a second-class citizen purely because I was a woman. I'm proud that I set people straight in no uncertain terms when it was assumed I was 'the girlfriend of the booker', because they couldn't see that I might have been given the job for my skills. I'm pro...ud that I survived endemic bullying by OTHER WOMEN and went out on my own. I'm proud that I have trained a huge portion of the QLD, Australian and International music industry and that I've trained them to respect women. I'm proud that I can continue to nurture and support talented womxn in the arts, especially young womxn and I can celebrate their achievements. I'm angry that I (and my sisters) have to work harder to prove myself, just because I'm a woman. I'm angry that I am made to feel stupid when I have an opinion that differs from others, just because I'm a woman. I'm angry that I (and my sisters) have to be hyperaware when walking at night. I'm angry that womxn get lower pay for the same job. I'm angry that womxn are underrepresented on boards and in leadership positions. I'm angry that women are still getting murdered by violent partners. I'm VERY angry that our leaders don't respect women and believe and belittle them when they are speaking difficult truths. I WILL challenge gender stereotypes and bias. I WILL help forge a gender equal world. I WILL call out gendered actions or assumptions. I WILL forge positive visibility of women. #choosetochallenge2021 #handuphigh #IWD2021 Orient Hotel Photo Credit - Kathy Dora, Purple Avengers Photo Credit: Cindy Vogels

04.01.2022 There's changes due to happen to Australia's Copyright Laws. It's difficult yet to know exactly what the proposed changes will bring for creators. Hopefully, in a time where creators need the income that copyright ownership can bring, it won't negatively impact them.
