25.01.2022 Enjoying the incredible work of the late Stan Kelly, whose well-loved #eucalypt watercolours are studied by botanist and artist alike. Kelly was a train driver ...with a deep fascination and love of eucalypts, often hopping off a train to grab cuttings of species he hadn't seen before along the track. After deciding to record the entire genus of Eucalyptus, he spent 32 years traveling across Australia, tracking down and illustrating 508 species. We hope you all enjoy this beautiful little video about the fascinating Stan Kelly, a true gum nut from Ararat: https://cv.vic.gov.au//an-eye-for-eu/an-eye-for-eucalypts/ See more

22.01.2022 We have indeed tested "Bush Tucker" and endorse its use in growing Australian plants. APS Victoria members receive discounts on Neutrog products as well. Interesting ideas here for using native plants in combination with some exotic plants in containers.

Online seminars coming up soon, with lots of information about the #prostantheroideae subfamily of #Lamiaceae . Hopefully garden visits and plant sales coming up late November. Thanks to Miriam Ford for photos. #prostanthera #newcastelia

10.01.2022 Debbie Reynolds snapshot of what the grasslands of Melbourne's western plains were like before sheep and superphosphate! Evans St reserve in Sunbury has amazing diversity for such a small reserve in the centre of town. Only 0.2 % of Victoria's grasslands remain in thier original state so it is critical to protect these sites.

10.01.2022 Fascinating blog on carnivorous plants by Boaz Ng - thanks for the link Jane Canaway! I love Fairy's Aprons!

09.01.2022 September is a glorious time to be gardening! The first butterflies have arrived and Little Wattlebirds are getting frisky. In my garden in Thornbury there is a range of Australian natives, local indigenous plants and some special plants in pots. My Grass Tree is nearly in flower after three years in a pot and seven in the ground.

05.01.2022 It’s worth signing and supporting AVAAZ. Supply chain control is one of the most effective strategies for combating out of control forest clearing - overseas and here in Australia.
