25.01.2022 Concept design is not only a time in which we develop spatial planning through floor plans. The section is one of the best representations of the architectural design and is developed cohesively with the floor plans. Through sections, we develop the vertical dimensions of the design, which relate to the user scale with proportional notions and experience. The section is also a representative tool which places the project in dialogue with its surrounding context and topograph...y which it occupies. Passive design considerations and performance are also demonstrated through the sectional diagrammatic. Dont sleep on sections, because design isnt resolved without them. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

25.01.2022 Playing with the finishes details to perfect the design for St Columban's College Canteen and Cafe. With the introduction of a natural and playful palette, the space becomes an oasis. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

24.01.2022 Utilizing natural materials, planting and feature lighting to give new life to an existing apartment building. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #refurbishment #render

23.01.2022 WORKIVERSARY // Today marks a significant milestone as James Hollanby ticks over 10 years working with the company and the previous variants. We are grateful to have James in our team for this time and highly value his significant achievements and dedication over the years. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

23.01.2022 SCHOOL MASTERPLANNING // Were delighted with the rainfall were getting, even more grateful that it didnt rain yesterday while Dario, James and Matt were on site at a recently purchased school site. We inspected the school for opportunities and constraints as we work towards revamping this primary school to reopen in the coming years. A very, very exciting project for the team. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #masterplanning #education #educationalarchitecture

22.01.2022 Its the little things that you grow to miss. Our weekly work routine is kick started with a resource meeting, not until we have completed a drawing exercise that involves the whole team and gets our creative minds active. This too is something you can do at home or at work and only takes a minute or two of your time, this is how we do it. 1. Find an obscure, small, interesting object and place it in the middle of the group or in front of you. 2. Set the timer for 30 seconds... and challenge yourself to draw this object with one line and without looking. 3. Reset the timer to 90 seconds and try to sketch the entire object while capturing as much detail in the time-frame possible. 4. More often than not, realise that your no-look sketch is far greater than the one completed with time and care. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #sketch #design

22.01.2022 #throwbackthursday Motor dealerships depend heavily on presence and brand recognition - and rightly so. The challenge we faced on this project was to respond to Peugeot design guidelines on a portion of the car dealers’ site that didn't really allow conformity. Solution? - think outside the box. We inverted the 'peugeot box' whilst adhering to the guidelines. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

21.01.2022 Getting out of the ground and seeing a bit of form taking shape at St Francis College, great work on site by Bedford Built Pty Ltd! #archcollab #listencreateinspire #construction #concrete #architecture

21.01.2022 The Labyrinth at San Sisto College is a built expression of student well-being and spirituality. Referencing historical precedents such as Chartres Cathedral in France, the labyrinth is designed to be a reflective journey to the travellers our own centre. The narrow, meandering path requires a level of concentration that has a balancing and calming effect on the individual. The Labyrinth is an exemplar of collaboration with valuable inputs from school leaders, architect, artist, landscaper and builder. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

21.01.2022 PROJECT PREVIEW // Coming soon. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

20.01.2022 Things are moving along nicely at The Pocket Childcare Centre, St Lucia. Wall linings are installed and ATG Projects are beginining to prepare for the finishes. A fantastic job by the team on site. Its really begining to look like a childcare centre now. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

20.01.2022 A beautiful and warm Mother's room featured in Habitat Early Learning. It was important to provide a space for a mother and their child, filled with a sense of calming and warmth. Color and material were an integral part to helping achieve this desired outcome. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

20.01.2022 Things are moving ahead well on site at St. Francis by the Bedford Built team. The scaffolds have been removed from the site and now we can start to see the classrooms coming to life. The installation of all doors and windows are now complete and the joinery and finishes are starting to appear. Getting excited to see the outcome of this project! #archcollab #listencreateinspire

20.01.2022 ST FRANCIS COLLEGE // The first archcollab project of 2020 to kick off construction. #archcollab #listencreateinspire Contractors: Bedford Built #construction #render #architecture

20.01.2022 Q: What does the architectural design process look like? A: Lots and lots of sketches that on the face of it, dont look like they mean a whole lot. Yet, each of these 30 second sketches hold great significance on the end product. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

20.01.2022 Heres an old hand drawn development application for a residential development. Hand drawn on tracing paper with rotring pens. The layout was intentional so that the development could be discussed and presented around a table. Funnily enough, the same as AutoCAD was later used with the old UCS (for those that remember!!) #archcollab #listencreateinspire

19.01.2022 Matt joined the team in 2017 and has been a part of our ArchCollab journey since day 1. He was a key member during our transition as he applied his high-level graphic design skills to take on multiple responsibilities within the company. Over his time, Matt has worked within a variety of sectors, having key positions on some of our feature projects. Today marks his last day with Architectural Collaborative as he is heading over to Europe for a 2-year holiday. We wish Matt and his partner all the best and safe travels. It has been a pleasure to have him and his fun personality in the workplace. We look forward to keeping up with his adventure via @wanderingaustralians on Instagram. Happy Travels! #archcollab #listencreateinspire

19.01.2022 The sites been cleared and footings are being poured on site at St. Francis college. Getting out of the ground is one of the biggest challenges in construction. Thankfully the earthworks didnt prove to be too difficult for Bedford Built. Full steam ahead! #archcollab #listencreateinspire

18.01.2022 Layers, upon layers of sketching; investigating connectivity, wayfinding and viewpoints. A look back at some early concept designs for St Francis College, now under construction. This critical (and messy!) project phase often happens behind closed doors to deliver the final design. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #sketch #designconcept #designprocess

18.01.2022 Counting down the days to the completion of this exciting project located in St Lucia. The Pocket Early Learning Centre is a multi-story child care centre located on a sloping corner site which maximises yield without diminishing the architectural intent. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #construction #brisbane #childcare

17.01.2022 Work in Progress. We're currently working through the concept design stages and are developing a base layout for an exciting residential project located in inner Brisbane city. Watch this space to keep up with the design developments. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

16.01.2022 THE POCKET CHILDCARE // Its full steam ahead as things are moving along smoothly in St. Lucia. All slabs and columns have been poured and the internal and external walls are starting to go up. Were excited to see this beginning to take shape. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

16.01.2022 Last Friday marked Ellys third year of being part of the archcollab team through its various business names. Elly has been part of many project teams over the years and is currently seeing out the contract administration of the General Learning Areas building at St Francis College. Congratulations, Elly! #archcollab #listencreateinspire

16.01.2022 Its not often we get a chance to take a minute to slow down, so during times like these, its good to stop, reflect and reconnect with old friends, clients, colleagues and projects. In doing so, Dario has come across this; a very early concept elevation and how it has ended up. Always fulfilling to see the conversion of an idea into a built form. Also, how good does the aramax roof look? #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #sketch #designprocess

15.01.2022 BIRTHDAY WEEK // This week were lucky enough to be celebrating the birthdays of Adam, Alison, Dario & James. Happy birthday to all and we hope you enjoy the weekend! #archcollab #listencreateinspire

14.01.2022 Designing a split-level apartment building to work around the constraints of a steep site. Excited to see this design come to life in a 3d model and how the level changes will be reflected on the external elevations. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

12.01.2022 While down in Melbourne to inspect child care centre facilities, Matt made the most of the opportunity and went to check out the Brighton Bathing Boxes. Originally used as changing rooms, these uniform structures have stood as they are today for over 100 years and surprisingly enough, were only heritage listed in March 2017. Today there are approximately 1,860 boatsheds, bathing boxes and alike located along the western shores of Port Phillip Bay. They are privately owned an...d used for personal use under licence of the Bayside City Council. Keeping hold of architectural gems such as these 82 bathing boxes (which had been argued to be removed on many occasions) is what provides significant cultural and historical value to the public realm. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #heritagearchitecture #melbourne

12.01.2022 Dear clients, colleagues and friends, As we continue to head into these unexpected times, the Architectural Collaborative team are taking the necessary steps to help flatten the curve. Until the situation improves, it will remain business as usual, although with a new norm As of next week, our office will be closed, and staff will be working from home for the foreseeable future. Whilst this changes our work processes, we are all healthy and smiling and we remain committe...d to deliver our architectural projects to the highest quality. Although we are removing physical interactions, we remain available via phone, email and other virtual means. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy during these times. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #flattenthecurve #covid_19 #workfromhome #stopthespread

12.01.2022 Dominic Centre, San Sisto College built last year. This building is situated at the entry of the school and holds many connotations to Dominican architectural features, one of these being arches. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #arch #brick

12.01.2022 Construction is continuing along nicely on site at St. Francis College. Columns are being formed up and poured. Wont be long before we start seeing our new GLAs appearing #archcollab #listencreateinspire

09.01.2022 We're delighted with the outcome of this project that has been years in the making. The Pocket Early Learning Centre has been developed by the team from the early days of spatial planning, through to documentation and it's a project that has required careful consideration to maximise the yield, adhere to local planning requirements, address the slope of the site while providing a refined and cohesive design outcome. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

08.01.2022 As Triple Js Hottest 100 of the Decade is aired tomorrow, heres our office vote which was compiled by the team. We also took the time to reflect over the past 10 years and dug up some gems from the decade that was. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #hottest100

07.01.2022 At San Sisto College over the years, we have implemented a design feature across the campus that is symbolic of the schools Dominican charism. This functional building element, as well as dynamic, changes dependant on your perspective of the building, transitioning between white and black. Found primarily on the western facades to provide passive solar screening, the screen creates a newfound contemporary unity between the once concrete and brick-heavy architecture found on campus. The considered design thinking put into the screening has provided a meaningful addition to the new and existing architecture which is practical yet a derivative of the schools charism. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecture #screening #perforatedmetal

07.01.2022 Last week James attended site for another final inspection of a child care, this time accompanied by Jack. Habitat Early Learning in Nundah is a project that demanded rigorous design work, planning and critical thinking, for what has become a great achievement and outcome. We look forward to sharing more images with you soon. and yes, the slide was tested by both James and Jack as part of the final inspection. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #childcare

07.01.2022 February is known as Birthday Month around the office as we’re heavily outnumbered by Aquarius’. Today we’re celebrating the birthdays of Sarah, James, Adam, Ali and Dario with an afternoon of mini golf and a few laughs. Happy Birthday guys!

05.01.2022 Detailing through collaboration A balance of Structural, Acoustic, Landscape and Architectural inputs will be critical as we resolve the perimeter detailing of this elevated playscape. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #detail #sketch #design

04.01.2022 Exploring some roof ideas with a couple pens and some trace. Le Corbusier sums up the process quite well with his quote I prefer drawing to talking. Drawing is faster, and leaves less room for lies. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

04.01.2022 HABITAT EARLY LEARNING // As we come to a close of construction on this project that weve thoroughly enjoyed, were looking back at the progress and design development of this child care centre. While the form remains somewhat intact, from concept one to the final, the centre has grown and been refined into an articulated form. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #architecturerender #visualisation #brisbanedevelopment

01.01.2022 Amidst the concern and unknowns that we are facing as a result of COVID-19, it is important to continue recognising successes. On Sunday, Josh marks his 4th year of working with the Architectural Collaborative team. Josh is critical to the delivery of our projects which currently he holds a key role in the design and documentation of a multi residential development nearing the start of construction. He also assists in managing the marketing and website for the company as well... as providing key banter to the work environment. For those that know him, you would know he prides himself on his work desk. In these strange times and as we move into working from home, we have no doubts he will find himself in an ergonomic, practical and clean workspace at home. Please, with the Architectural Collaborative team, find joy and celebration in these difficult times and congratulate Josh on a wonderful 4 years of being part of the team. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #workiversary #congratulations #architecture #ergonomic

01.01.2022 A conceptual animation depicting the seamless indoor outdoor living area in one of our current residential projects. A key design component was to create an outdoor pavilion in the core of the house which blended into the surrounding internal spaces. The project is currently undergoing the Development Application process. #archcollab #listencreateinspire

01.01.2022 Applying design thinking to all elements of the building internally and externally is critical to achieving a completely resolved design. As you can see here, a copious amount of thought has been put into the handrail design at Habitat Early Learning, Nundah. #archcollab #listencreateinspire #sketch #detail #architecture
