12.01.2022 Archon Mining is currently drilling vertically into Cretaceous era (145m-66million years old) sandstone and mudstone, When at the time, there was actual sand and mud and an inland sea (The Arckaringa Basin). Over time, the inland sea evaporated, exposing the high-in-silica sedimentary rocks. Over the course of the next 50 million years, these exposed rocks were deeply weathered which released the silica contained within them a main component of Opal. ... Silica filled water moved into small faults, fractures and joints in the rocks, following gravity and getting to the lowest point it was able to. In these low-point cavities, cracks, hollows and faults, the concentrated silica-carrying water slowly began to harden as the water evaporated, first into a gel and then eventually into rock - Opal!
