25.01.2022 SES Leongatha Unit members spent several hours yesterday at Wilson's Promontory assisting Ambulance Victoria to evacuate a patient from the Sealers Cove walking... track. Together with a Parks Victoria ranger and MICA wilderness paramedic we successfully located, secured and transported the patient down to the shoreline on a VICSES mule stretcher where they were evacuated via HEMS air ambulance to receive medical care for a fractured bone. Victoria Police Search and Rescue supported on standby and Coast Guard Port Welshpool assisted in transporting our emergency service members back to a more accessible location. #VICSES #EmergencyResponders #WeWorkAsOne

20.01.2022 Hot off the press...the World Ranger Congress that was to be held in Azores, Portugal in May 2022 will now be postponed until May 2023. Here's what the Portuguese Ranger Association have to say... The 10th World Ranger Congress's theme will be Oceans and Climate Change.... The Ocean is the largest ecosystem on the planet, being a place of refuge for millions of species. Climate change has made the oceans warmer and more acidic, affecting marine life. It is necessary to reverse this critical situation and act quickly. The 10th World Rangers Congress has as one of its goals to plea for a greater and real action of conservation and regeneration of the Oceans and to alert to the need to involve more and more Rangers in the defence of the Oceans. The World Rangers Congress is an important milestone to define a strategy for involving the Rangers worldwide for the protection of the Oceans. The union of all Rangers worldwide will ensure the future of life in the Oceans. The 10th World Rangers Congress will have the theme The oceans and climate change, to be held in the city of Ponta Delgada, on São Miguel Island, Archipelago of the Azores. This will be the first event to be held on an Island and we are confident that we will bring together Rangers from around the world. The event will include a series of conferences and posters for presentation and discussion on the role of the Rangers in the preservation of the Oceans and field visits will also be made to discover some of the most emblematic places on the Island and make visits in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean to meet the giants of the seas (whales). The World Congress also aims to bring together professionals from the class to communicate papers and exchange ideas and experiences. Informations: The Congress will take place on the island of São Miguel, in the city of Ponta Delgada, capital of the Autonomous Region of the Azores. The international airport of Ponta Delgada - João Paulo II, is less than 3 km away from the city centre of Ponta Delgada. From the hotels to the Congress venue and the dining venues, circulation will be carried out on foot, with very short distances. Soon we will give more information about the 2023 World Rangers Congress. See more

13.01.2022 River Red Gum is the most iconic and important Australian eucalypt. They are the largest and also the most culturally significant tree found on the typical Mall...ee Country in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. Decisions regarding land management of this area depend largely on geography of the land as well as the scientific measures required to best protect the environment and Country. Parks Victoria works closely with Traditional owners and other organisations to deliver water from the river Murray to some of the flood plains so this precious water can be returned to Country in the most culturally sensitive way. The Chitwan Declaration calls for international support and cooperation; in response a group of international conservation organisations has formed the Universal Ranger Support Alliance (URSA) to help implement the Declaration, and address the issues and obstacles which rangers have said they face. 09.01.2022 The Black Summer Fires of 2019/20 may have changed some of our landscapes and ecosystems irreversibly. We may not know the full impacts for a while. But we are also seeing some positive signs of recovery and will work hard to intensively manage any threats to this recovery over coming months and years

09.01.2022 As we prepare to head into our next fire season, we are still coming to terms with the Black Summer of 2019/20. It's hard for many to understand why it takes so long to rebuild and reopen after a fire but we need to manage many complexities including ensuring places are safe for visitors. Here is one of many stories from our recovery journey.

09.01.2022 On Monday night we surveyed the Mala Paddock where we keep endangered mala (rufous hare-wallabies) away from predators that threaten the survival of the species..., which is now extinct in the wild. The 170-hectare feral-proof enclosure houses a group of these endangered mammals so they can breed and contribute to the long-term species population. Today we have a healthy and robust community of mala in the park. This little fella was a highlight of Monday night for the team - a healthy large male juvenile who is still spending a lot of time with mum but is ready now to leave the pouch for good. After traditional owner and ranger Leroy Lester found him in our trap, the mala was given a general health check and released. Park rangers and Mutitjulu Community Rangers have been surveying the paddock with the help of Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife staff. Shaeleigh Swann (Parks Australia)

06.01.2022 In honor of Native American Heritage month, we recognize the rich diversity of Native American peoples. Since time immemorial, California Native Americans have ...stewarded these lands, building communities, and fostering rich cultures. This month we encourage the public to learn more about the people who first called this state and nation home, as we pause to reflect on their past, present, and future. Our California State Parks PORTS Distance Learning Program will have several opportunities for students/teachers to learn more about the Native American heritage and traditions in some of our parks such as Indian Grinding Rock SHP, Patrick’s Point State Park and Pismo State Beach. Visit www.ports-ca.us for more details. See more

03.01.2022 We smell prescribed fire season! If you plan to visit the South Rim over the next month you may see piles of woody debris being lit and burned by our fire man...agement crews along Hwy. 64/South Entrance Road. These piles were created in order to reduce understory hazardous fuels in the park's forested areas and to enhance site protection at high-priority locations. Prescribed fires play an important role in decreasing risks to life, resources, and property. Fire managers carefully plan prescribed fires, initiating them only under environmental conditions that are favorable to assuring firefighter and visitor safety and to achieving the desired objectives. Prescribed fire objectives include reducing accumulations of hazard fuels, maintaining the natural role of fire in a fire-adapted ecosystem, and protection of sensitive cultural and natural resources. NPS Photos #ImageDescription: Multiple piles of woody debris are lit on fire under a snowy, forested canopy by fire management crews the week of November 9, 2020.

01.01.2022 Tomorrow, we celebrate International Women’s Day, which is dedicated to celebrating and empowering women and their achievements. Our all-female unit, Akashinga,... which aptly translates to The Brave Ones, have made incredible strides in animal protection, conservation, and empowerment, and empowerment for the communities they live in. The rigorous training to become a ranger involves the four pillars of misery- hunger, exhaustion, cold and wet, but these pillars aren’t comparable to the unimaginable marginalization, trauma, and abuse these women have overcome. Each day, the Akashinga rangers #ChooseToChallenge the standards set for them as women and work tirelessly toward passing along a more diverse, inclusive, and equal world for future generations. We invite all of you to celebrate the women in your life, along with our Akashinga Rangers Please like & share to show your support for International Women’s Day To learn more about Akashinga, watch this video:https://films.nationalgeographic.com/akashinga Photo by: Brent Stirton ________________ #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge #InternationalWomensDay #Akashinga
