23.01.2022 What do you do if you find disturbing images of children online? If you come across this type of content, do NOT share it or comment on it. While it is tempting... to jump in the comments and tag the AFP or other law enforcement groups, this is not the way to go. The first thing to do is report it to platform you’ve seen the content on using the built-in reporting options. A lot of these are very easy to use. This is the quickest way to get the content removed and ensure the right information gets to the right police. Platforms work closely with the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation and international counterparts when it comes to protecting our children; they are required to report all suspected child exploitation material to law enforcement. You can also report content directly to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation by heading to www.accce.gov.au/report Offensive, illegal or harmful content online can be reported to www.esafety.gov.au/report/illegal-harmful-content Importantly, If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 000 or your local police.

22.01.2022 We are less connected than what we were 30 years ago. In the 1980s people would estimate they had at least 7 neighbours they would feel comfortable dropping in... on whereas now, that number has dropped to 4. Today is International Coffee Day - what a great excuse to drop in on your neighbour for a cuppa; in person socially distanced and masked of course, digitally via Zoom or even a cuppa over the 'phone. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. Helen Keller

22.01.2022 Found a bargain online? Don’t be a tool If you think you’re getting a deal too good to be true, it probably is. The theft and reselling of tools online is a c...ommon problem for people working in trades with over 24,500 power tools stolen in Victoria last year. To assist with the recovery of stolen tools, Crime Stoppers Victoria and Victoria Police are encouraging tradies to engrave or mark tools for easy identification. The letter V followed by a Victorian Licence number is recommended. Cataloguing your tools including serial numbers and image can also help you keep track of your property and provide proof of ownership. If you are suspicious about the selling of cheap online tools, report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au or call 1800 333 000

16.01.2022 The AFP is part of the NSW Trade Union Taskforce, which today charged two Sydney men with corruption offences as part of a long-running investigation into alleg...edly corrupt payments from builders to union office holders. A 56-year-old and a 36-year-old man were arrested by police this morning and are expected to face court this afternoon. It will be alleged the men solicited and accepted payments from the owner of a building company in exchange for preferential treatment from the union and access to building contracts. AFP Detective Superintendent Craig Bellis said this investigation was focussed on the alleged criminal conduct of individuals in the building industry. The construction industry is a key driver of both the State and Australian economies. As a major employer of people in NSW, it should operate free from unlawful influence and corrupt activity, he said. The diligence and thorough nature in which this investigation was conducted demonstrates the gravity of the alleged offending. It also highlights the strong commitment of all agencies involved to remove corrupt actors from the industry and bring them before the courts.
