16.01.2022 Dear Valued Customers The past few months have been difficult for all of us, and now with the recent shut down of Mitchell Shire and Melbourne Region, it is becoming more so. Unfortunately, after very careful consideration we have made the decision not to travel into those areas for markets. We have a small child, who we require to go to daycare a couple days a week so that we can run our business from home. If we travel or one of us travels to the lock down zones, we have t...o keep Logan out of Daycare for a minimum 2 weeks. Which, although we value our family time, we cannot afford to slack off on the business side of things here. We are available online and a couple markets within the Bendigo Region. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to our customers and hopefully things start to return to some semblance of normal after the 6 weeks lock down has ceased. Thank you for your understanding Matthew, Victoria and Logan

11.01.2022 How quickly things can change Our little business has been running for 2 years... 1 really as covid made things a little difficult to carry on our 2nd year. Today we had a reminder as to where our business venture was going to take us... we had forgotten. With all this Covid stuff, we focused on just trying to keep our business alive. ... I was asked today, where do you see your business in 10 years? I looked at my tiny little table, and said something along the lines of, all online. With all my products being available again. I explained to the lovely lady, that what she saw, was nothing like how it had been. I jokely called myself lazy, I blamed not having finished setting up my workspace to help with the heat in summer. My normal amount of product was down at 5 things. 5. Truth is... I answered her honestly at the time, but it was not the answer that Matthew and I had actually dreamed of and talked about, because I had forgotten what our plans were. Where we had seen ourselves in 10 years. Things can change so quickly or they dont change and things go stagnant. Covid made it hard to stay positive and to keep the momentum going. Because there was no momentum, no markets to tell people about our products, about our plans for the future. So we forgot. We forgot our own dreams. Until today. So, to the lovely couple that stopped and chatted to us at the end of Tallarook Farmers Market. I thank you. For reminding me that we had other dreams for our business. Here's to a GREAT 2021

07.01.2022 Swarm season is fast approaching. We are available for FREE swarm removal within the Heathcote Area. 0468401219 or shoot us a PM through Facebook. What is Swarming, why should Swarms be collected and what does removal entail? Swarming is a natural phenomenon that usually occurs during springtime. It is the method by which a new honey bee colony is created when the queen bee decides to leave the original colony with a large group of her workers in tow; in a large swarm, abou...t 60% of the workers follow her, with afterswarms sometimes continuing until a beehive is almost totally depleted of workers. The swarm can contain thousands to tens of thousands of bees, which makes it unsurprising that their gathering in your driveway, porch or ceiling can be too close for comfort! This process is a natural means of reproduction for honey bee colonies, as a single colony multiplies to make two or more colonies. Whilst the bees are in a swarm they can be quite easy to remove. If left to their own devices, bees will send out "scout" bees from their swarm to find their next home. This can be the tiniest of holes in your roof, or in that old couch you have under your verandah or any place that is easily insulated, and dark. Once a new home is selected, they work quickly to create a hive which then makes the bees go from a fairly quick easy job to a much tougher, usually very costly endeavour. Another reason to have a swarm collected is the risk of disease spread from hive to hive. By having a swarm collected by a professional beekeeper or pest controller, you help prevent the spread of diseases/ parasites such as European Foul Brood, American Foul Brood, small hive beetle and mites which would devastate local hives, feral and controlled. We collect swarms as humanely as possible, by using limited smoke, if any, and a trap/small hive box called a Nucleus Box. We shake (if possible) majority of bees into the box and then wait for the rest of the bees to march into their new provided home. We then remove the queen and put her in special cage for transport so that she doesnt accidentally get hurt or killed on our way to our quarantine bee yard. Where we keep the bees their until we are satisfied they are not carrying any disease/parasites. They then get transported to our Apiary where they join our other hives in breeding and honey production.

01.01.2022 Swarm Removal today out near Serpentine. Got a call yesterday from a lovely man living out that way, that he'd found a swarm last week hanging off his trailer and it was still there. I got out there prepared for comb removal and angry bees. That means Jacket, gloves, smoker and a tool. He mentioned at that stage, that they had in fact been there for 2 weeks, not 1. So, to me, I expect some built out comb.... Instead I got, a swarm. A kind gentle swarm who almost seemed grateful I had given them a home. I started off trying to remove them without taking the tyre off but I just couldn't get a nice sweeping motion to remove them with my hands. So the tyre had to come off. Glad I had those classes back in Highschool now . Tyre removed, got an easier approach to them. Couldn't find the Queen. Oh well. Hope she ends up in the box. Well folks, she did. And the bees just followed her right on in. Took 2 hours all up, as there were a few girls who decided the trailer was still better. I wore a jacket and gloves, because I was ready to be stung. And instead I could have worked without a thing. Even with Logan hanging about making noise and trying to shove his face up nice and close to them. The girls are now in quarantine and I hope they end up being a good addition to the bee yard.
