22.01.2022 how full is your bucket? Ive started using the language of a metaphorical love cup when checking in emotionally with my son. He was quick to say he doesnt have a cup, but in fact a bucket (a timely reminder that our capacity to love and be loved is huge). ... It seems to help as it puts something tangible around the intangible. We can talk about what filled his bucket today and when it isnt full, what might be some things that could help fill his bucket. He is six and very much able to articulate his needs now, of course this is often a request for a wrestle of some kind - he will always ask to play this when he is seeking connection.
