22.01.2022 TIPS TO STAYING COOL THIS WEEKEND: 1. Keep your blinds closed. Up to 30 percent of unwanted heat comes from your windows, and utilizing shades, curtains and the like can save you up to 7 percent on your bills and lower indoor temperatures by up to 20 degrees. 2. Be smart about your doors. Closing off rooms will prevent the cool air from permeating these areas during the hottest part of the day. 3. Swap your sheets. Cotton breathes easier and stays cooler. Buy yourself a buckw...heat pillow or two. Because buckwheat hulls have a naturally occurring air space between them, they wont hold on to your body heat like conventional pillows, even when packed together inside a pillow case. 4. Set your ceiling fans to rotate counter-clockwise. Whether you know it or not, your ceiling fan needs to be adjusted seasonally. Set counter-clockwise in the summer at a higher speed, the fans airflow will create a wind-chill breeze effect that will make you "feel" cooler. 5. Focus on the temperature in your body, not the house. From sipping iced drinks to applying a cold cloth to strong-pulsed areas like your neck and wrists, cooling yourself from the inside out is not a bad idea. 6. Fan hack. Fill a mixing bowl with ice (or something equally cold, like an ice pack) and position it at an angle in front of a large fan, so that the air whips off the ice at an extra-chilled, extra-misty temperature. 7. Turn on your bathroom fans. ...or the exhaust fan in your kitchen, for that matter. Both of these pull the hot air that rises after you cook or take a shower. 8. Heat-proof your bed. Go straight to the source, and put a cool-inducing Chillow under your head while you sleep. For feet, fill a hot water bottle and put it in the freezer before placing at the foot of your bed. And it sounds strange, but slightly dampening your sheets before bedtime will majorly help you chill out. 9. Barbecue. Its obvious, but using your oven or stove in the summer will make your house hotter. If it already feels like 100+ degrees in your home, the last thing you want to do is turn on a 400-degree oven. 10.01.2022 SCAM ALERT Scammers have set up a clone of the myGov website to trick you into sharing your login and bank account details, Stay Smart Online says. The scam... starts with a phishing email that looks like it is from Medicare, asking you to update your Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) details, so you can start receiving payments for Medicare benefits and claims. If you click on the link in the email you are taken a replica of the real myGov website. Youll note the URL includes .net instead of .gov.au, which is an indication the website is not a legitimate Australian Government domain! If you input your login details you are directed to also enter your secret security question and answer, before youre taken to the fake Medicare website to input your bank account details. These emails and web pages feature myGov and Medicare design and branding, making them appear legitimate. Remember, clicking on the link and sharing your details gives these scammers access to your personal information, which they then use to steal your money and identity!

01.01.2022 Tonight Channel 7 aired a report on "Locksmith Scammers". These groups have been operating in our southern States for a few years but have now made their way up to Queensland. In short, they employ non qualified people, reportedly backpackers or Uni students. The company you ring is based either interstate or overseas. They quote you a modest service call, then after they have opened the lock (normally not by industry standards), they will hit you with another hugely outrage...ous additional fee to perform the opening. These companies normally appear in Google as 24/7 Locksmith or Locksmith Brisbane. At Armour Lock & Security we all hold a Queensland Security Providers Licence issued by the Queensland Government and are members of an approved security organisation (Locksmiths Guild of Australia). We will always quote you a fee including the service call and labour. Like everything in this world, if it sounds too cheap, it probably is too good to be true.
