23.01.2022 ADOPTION IS A FEMINIST ISSUE, BUT NOT FOR THE REASONS YOU THINK A very interesting article - keep in mind it is American, where adoption is still sadly occurring in huge numbers. https://theestablishment.co/adoption-is-a-femini/index.html

23.01.2022 Imagine being forced to give up a baby for adoption that you wanted to keep. This was the distressing reality for thousands of Australian women and girls back in the 1950s to 1980s, such was the stigma of having a baby outside of wedlock.

23.01.2022 At 40, Franz Kafka (1883-1924), who never married and had no children, walked through the park in Berlin when he met a girl who was crying because she had lost ...her favourite doll. She and Kafka searched for the doll unsuccessfully. Kafka told her to meet him there the next day and they would come back to look for her. The next day, when they had not yet found the doll, Kafka gave the girl a letter "written" by the doll saying "please don't cry. I took a trip to see the world. I will write to you about my adventures." Thus began a story which continued until the end of Kafka's life. During their meetings, Kafka read the letters of the doll carefully written with adventures and conversations that the girl found adorable. Finally, Kafka brought back the doll (he bought one) that had returned to Berlin. "It doesn't look like my doll at all," said the girl. Kafka handed her another letter in which the doll wrote: "my travels have changed me." the little girl hugged the new doll and brought her happy home. A year later Kafka died. Many years later, the now-adult girl found a letter inside the doll. In the tiny letter signed by Kafka it was written: "Everything you love will probably be lost, but in the end, love will return in another way." #kafka #thedoll

19.01.2022 How sad that his mum committed suicide and his grandfather died before meeting him.

16.01.2022 We are pleased to be able to offer another one of Sian Prior’s Writing As Therapy courses to mothers separated from their child or children through past adoptio...n practices. Priority will be given to mothers who live in Victoria or whose child was born and/or adopted in Victoria. Please contact us to register or find out more. Here is some feedback from the last one (published with permission): She was great and I loved how she shared her story (Anon) Valuable, lots of food for thought. (Robyn) Superb presentation Sian. You managed the zoom 2 hours expertly and smoothly. (Dorothy) I was thinking that I’d done enough classes, reading etc. about the process and inspiration for writing and just need to write more but this workshop proved me wrong. (Sylvia) See more

15.01.2022 Women's wombs and baby's are big business.

14.01.2022 This is an adoptee support group who have a different speaker each week. Last week's was Ann Fessler, who wrote The Girls Who Went Away (in our library). Very interesting, and people can write comments during the talk, which are also very interesting. It's 11am this Saturday our time if you would like to watch.

14.01.2022 Barbara has written an incredibly emotional and raw book on her life as an adopted person and her fight to claim her true identity and find her parents.

13.01.2022 They just don't understand what they're getting in to.

12.01.2022 Such a heartbreaking account. How can parents be so horrible to their daughter (and their grandchild)? She doesn't meet "baby given away"- she meets the baby that was taken from her.

10.01.2022 And still they don't seem capable of learning.

09.01.2022 Please think about signing this petition to help mothers in Canada have their history and trauma recognised for what it was.

05.01.2022 This is not a plotline from The Handmaid's Tale, but the very real story of Sri Lankan babies being farmed for international adoption. #darkside

03.01.2022 This. It costs less to preserve a family than it does to redistribute children to strangers. #adoption #adoptionawareness #wanttoadopt #consideringadoption #ad...optionagency #adoptiveparents #adoptionjourney #hopefuladoptiveparents #adopteecommunity #adopteevoices #childtraffickingawareness #infertilityawareness #adoptionislove #adoptionisanoption See more

02.01.2022 One of their major concerns with shipping babies off to the US for adoption was that some non Catholics were getting their hands on the babies!!! Beggars belief!
