14.01.2022 If you want to learn about hydrosol production and access reliable, impartial information and research about their composition, the work of Ann Harman is exempl...ary! Her passion, rigour, knowledge and expertise is based on many years of growing and distilling is inspirational. I am delighted to have Ann return to botanica2020 as a speaker and am excited to learn more from her lecture: "The pillars of distillation: responsible, ethical, safe and sustainable production and uses of hydrosols and essential oils". The second edition of her landmark text "Harvest to Hydrosol" is currently underway and her excellent website Circle H Institute provides research and information on anything hydrosol-related : a veritable treasure trove and freely accessible. Thank you Ann! See more

11.01.2022 This does reflect society at the moment. Why are we more prepared to pay for a chemical to put into our system when there is food based supplements that allow your own system to fight the fight for you. Please explain???

05.01.2022 As well as preparing for Botanica2020, I am also working on the final edits of the IJCA issue that has Resiliency as it's theme. Going through each article writ...ten by practitioners and authors from around the world, I am so humbled and grateful as each article explores the concept of resiliency from different angles. This dovetailed beautifully this morning when I chose to hang out with one of the essential oils that I introduced to the cancer and palliative care environment about 10 years ago. Mentha citrata or bergamot mint is a truly delightful aromatic plant. I grow it at home for its amazing leaves in tea as well as distilling it for its hydrosol. I also love that when it is in bloom, it attracts so many butterflies. As is typical for a mint, it can be invasive but I never complain because its abundance gives me such pleasure and I get to share its stolons with neighbours and friends! This is a perfect example of a resiliency essential oil. Its light, fresh, intriguing and yet familiar aroma soothes the soul and provides comfort to the mind, emotions and body. So many therapists over the years have attested the same effects of this soft, safe and versatile essential oil. Its aroma is sufficiently complex to warrant its use alone rather than always in a blend. It is beautiful on its own in an aroma stick for helping people manage extremely stressful situations for example. When topically applied (of course in dilution) it is very useful for hot, inflamed skin conditions as well as tight muscles. I have long been fascinated by the combination of linalol and linalyl acetate in essential oils that we typically use in aromatherapy for when stress is overwhelming and where people need to find a place of balance and a safe haven. Lavender, lavandin, bergamot, clary sage, petitgrain bigarade and bergamot mint have a similar chemistry and yet each bring their own individual unique characteristics. Bergamot mint for example brings and light minty twist thanks to geranyl acetate and very small levels of menthol and menthone. I would love to know if /how you use it :) See more

03.01.2022 With love & gratitude to Prue Blackmore for this: 30gram each of ginger and turmeric. Half bunch coriander (plus I threw in some basil - very antiseptic in nature) one chilli. In a litre of coconut water - let it gently fester for 30 mins. Strain and store in the fridge. 30ml shot each morning. Stay well friends <3
