25.01.2022 Arrow didn’t care that I was in custody when my wife first approached them. They told us that it didn’t matter how I came to rehab, as long as I got there. And it was the support and structure provided by the Arrow program that directed me onto my path of recovery. Doing the Arrow program taught me a lot about the disease of addiction and everything that comes with it. Arrow introduced me to group therapy and counselling. I have learned to prioritise my recovery every day. I have been able to reconnect with my family and develop new friendship groups with people that are supportive and experiencing the same things as me. I am 6 months clean and most importantly have the tools in place to manage my recovery and finally get my life back on track. - Rodney, former client www.arrowhealth.com.au

21.01.2022 Addiction can happen to anyone, regardless of socio economic status or privilege. In this article, Melissa Etheridge talks about her own tragedy in hopes it will help other families. Sadly, the singer-songwriter's 21-year-old son, Beckett, died in May from an overdose.

21.01.2022 'In my active addiction, I went full bore. I never wanted to stop and didn’t think I would stop,' said Henry. Henry was in active drug addiction for 21 years. On Christmas Day 2015, Henry, who was previously arrested for armed robbery, was arrested for a second time when a friend overdosed at his then-Lafayette home. It was the same day his two oldest children were placed in temporary foster care with people they didn’t even know. ... I wish I could say that’s when I stopped, but I didn’t, Henry said. I was so selfish. When Henry's 7 year old son said to him 'Dad, I'm done being bad. Can I come back home?', something clicked. 'This little kid, this little person blamed himself for being in foster care. He blamed himself for everything that I've done,' Henry said. 'For the first time in my life, I cried for someone other than myself. And that was the day that my path to recovery started.' 20.01.2022 Jordan Foisy examines his experience of growing up with a father who was an addict, and his path to understanding and forgiveness. "Maybe this is what forgiveness looks like. It's not an explosion of sobbing catharsis or a deathbed confession; It's an appraisal, an honest reckoning about what you've lost but also what you have"

19.01.2022 So true... As long as we keep showing up to do the work, to face ourselves, to heal. And that is what people do - because what other choice is there?!

18.01.2022 The COVID crisis is making the opioid epidemic worse, according to health professionals in the US. 18.01.2022 The death toll of unintentional drug overdoses in Australia is higher than the road toll. 18.01.2022 "When Hunter Biden told ABC News reporter, Amy Robach, to say it nicer to me, millions of people across the nation who’ve also been in and out of rehab must have cheered wildly. Joined, I’m sure, by professionals who work in the addiction field, including me. Why the collective fist pumps? Because people with addiction, a chronic brain disease, are still labeled as failures by all sectors of society from the media to elected officials."

16.01.2022 Mythbusting time This is a big one. People often talk about how someone has to hit rock-bottom to be able to stop using, that things need to get so hard in their life that they have no other option but to seek help and create change. The question is, to help someone stop using, should you cut them out of your life because that might mean they hit rock-bottom sooner? Is the statement below true or false? You tell us!!

14.01.2022 Recovery is possible. I didn’t want to feel the way I felt anymore I stopped fighting. I stopped getting in the ring." Dave Collins went to rehab. Everything changed. "I can’t even describe in human words. It’s incredible. There’s trust back in my life. Instead of people staying away from him, Dave said he was now trusted to take care of someone’s house while they were on holiday, or was trusted with keys to people’s cars and homes. ... I don’t obsess about [alcohol or drugs], I don’t think about it, he said. I’m just so grateful to be living this life today. See more

13.01.2022 The thing about hope, when you are in prison, is that you can't hold on to it with both hands. You need to hold on to hope lightly and keep it as a little beacon in the back of your mind. From alcoholism, to drug dealing, to prison, Alyson has fought hard to rebuild her life over the past 4 years. Before I was arrested there were glimpses of reality when I thought, 'Maybe I have a problem' and wondered if there was a life outside drinking. Looking back, I can see there we...re moments when things could have changed for me. Instead they got quickly worse. If you or someone you know is an addict who is facing prison, we may be able to help. Arrow Health is a reputable addiction treatment provider with a proven, positive record and good reputation in the Courts. We work closely with lawyers to give clients the best chance at a positive case outcome. To find out more about our forensic services, head to https://www.arrowhealth.com.au/forensic-services/

13.01.2022 Never underestimate the power of your story, and of what you’re going through now. It could be what helps someone else in the future.

11.01.2022 A timely and poignant article. "Treating addiction like any other health disorder has to start with strong public policy reform and intervention to ensure the health system is adequately supported and resourced, so accessible and timely treatment is available to people who need it. Until we change how we view addiction from personal failure to a mental disorder, something we cannot control any more than we can control cancer Australians, and millions globally, will contin...ue to suffer." If you or someone you know needs help with addiction, please reach out to us on 03 8393 0217 or www.arrowhealth.com.au. "At the start of the pandemic we saw a surge in alcohol sales and reported drinking. Almost one-third of people who purchased more alcohol expressed concerns about their own drinking, or that of someone in their household. The year 2020 has challenged us all. The bushfires and then the pandemic forced us to reflect on what’s important, how we respond to crises as a community, and the ways we connect and support each other. About one in four Australians will develop an alcohol, drug or gambling disorder during their lifetime, and about one in 20 will develop addiction, the most severe form of the disorder. Despite common stereotypes, addiction doesn’t discriminate. It affects people of all ages and from all backgrounds."
