15.01.2022 Category: Open Art Prize Artist Name: Rhonda Dee Artwork Title: Mud crab blues Medium: Southern Ice porcelain and acrylic polymers mounted on black cradled wooden circular support; 24 x 22 x 6cm... This work was inspired by thinking about the importance of river systems in urban areas and the presence of plastics and other pollutants that create a struggle for non-human life. As a child I was fascinated by shapeshifting insects and creatures that could shed their skins like snakes and crustaceans to become larger or even new creatures, often nothing like their former selves. My work explores hybridity and shifting identity through a range of media including sculpture, drawing, painting, and public art with disadvantaged communities in Western Sydney. This work combines Australian porcelain clay (a natural mud) combined with acrylic resin (plastic) as a way of calling attention to the reality of the material forces coming together in the river system

09.01.2022 Today we have launched a solo exhibition by the 2019 GreenWay Art Prize winner, Eunjoo Jang. Titled 'Blended Reality: Newtown series 2', Jang explores how we have influenced our perception of space and place through geospatial technologies such as Google Earth. Using computerised technology Jang records the spaces she walks through, from suburbs to streets, and uses aerial view line drawing and paintings, geometric shapes, and scratch hologram to juxtapose our virtual reality... with our physical representation, creating a "blended reality". Blended Reality: Newtown series 2 is on show 14-28 October in our gallery space. Visit the website for opening hours. [image: Squaring the circles, 2020. Scratch hologram, oil and ink on aluminium]
