14.01.2022 Family heirloom Silky Oak - Farm milled on a property north of Dingo. This top is destined for a verandah. Formal table from same batch finished and will be next post. This timber was delivered all the way up the mountain on a fodder truck. The verandah table was requested to have a live edge. How big was this tree...to get this size pieces out? Thank goodness for humans that value timber like this.

13.01.2022 Thankyou Trish for sending through this pic by Real Property Photography for the Master Builders Awards. Table by Glenn Hughes/Arthouse REstore. Local people backing local people.

13.01.2022 Got this one delivered to Townsville last week. This table and benches has a lovely view of Castle Hill I think!

12.01.2022 New style table insitu in action.

12.01.2022 Changing the colour of silky oak and still seeing the timber grain is no mean feat! Not to mention removing all the previous finish. But these lovely chairs need to match a Kitchen renovation in a Scandi/Contemporary Country Style. I think he has nailed it. And no longer has finger prints from all the hand sanding and finishing

11.01.2022 Hanging wall shelves going into the OUR SHOP store today

11.01.2022 Craning this table into position. Thanks for this great shot Trish. Glenn builds em strong.

11.01.2022 And here she is...the formal farm house table. Glenn worked hard to piece together this timber and get enough to make a formal table and a live edge top for the verandah. Clever client will weld together some steel legs for the verandah table. I can see many family Christmases at these tables. They are a beautiful western Queensland family;many generations on the land.

10.01.2022 A couple of the projects delivered in June.

10.01.2022 Contemporary barn doors made a year ago...just delivered some more shelving and took the opportunity to grab a few pics.

Looks like the weather is going to be fantastic!

09.01.2022 Just finished this epic job. Completely transformed treasured silky oak pieces to a contemporary setting. Beautifully crafted dining table, chairs and dresser colour matched to the earlier 3 piece lounge (stripped, coloured and sent to upholsterers). Cant wait to see pics of it all in its newly renovated setting.

09.01.2022 New chair and table design just for River Festival

08.01.2022 Did you know that Glenn hand turns all the little trees on the snow scenes....every part of them is made from smaller bits left from bigger projects. Some of the trees used to be balustrade from old Queenslanders. Even the little log piles are from Mt Archer. Let it snow Let it snow.....or just rain would be nice

08.01.2022 A couple of fixer uppers today. Old hoop pine tables with just enough cleaned off to retain the beauty of age, and the value of a life lived (because you cant fake it). The painted legs cleaned up and sealed to prevent any of the old lead paint coming into contact with skin.

07.01.2022 All set up in East Street ARTWAYS. Can also access via Fish Lane. Open tonight until 10pm. Saturday 10am to 10pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.

06.01.2022 2 merbau benches and a reclaimed hardwood table delivered yesterday to a beachfront location.

05.01.2022 Delivered this week for the start of the school year

05.01.2022 We found this cupboard and loved the line up of timber drawers inside. Glenn cut it down to fit a more contemporary situation, but did not eliminate the history and beauty of the timber. A lot of elbow grease revealed black bean timber veneer and hoop or Baltic pine trims. Also found a European labour only stamp on the inside. Hmm...Glenn had seen this many times before, but I wanted to look it up and see if what we thought we knew, was factual. Here is an excerpt from an a...rticle I found: In Victoria, unions led the charge to divide workers by race. The idea of stamping furniture to mark Chinese or European labour was proposed at a meeting of the Furniture Trade Society in September 1884 and passed with enthusiasm. Society members immediately started lobbying for support from employers, and later government. They accused Chinese factories of using sweated labour that pushed down wages and working conditions. Clearly there is a lot more to this story....but there you go.

03.01.2022 This lovely, although a little tired, cupboard had a repair and refurb this week and came up a treat. Ready to be delivered back to its loving home.
