23.01.2022 JIA SURVEY Arthritis ACT has put together a JIA Survey to collect information to help develop a case for State Based JIA Services. There is limited data available in Australia on: the impact of JIA on children and their families lack of services available... time it takes for diagnosis travel involved to get specialist care lack of community awareness impact on schooling for a child with JIA This data will support funding applications to get necessary JIA services throughout Australia by showing, the impact JIA has on the lives of these children and their families. To do this we need your help, please take the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FBJTBDS See more

Chronic Pain of any origin support group We have similarly had a bit of interest in forming a support group for people living with chronic pain conditions - not disease specific but rather as a group of people just all 'living the same sort of dream'. 05.01.2022 Telehealth availability From 20 July 2020, Telehealth services (via video-conferencing and telephone) will only be available from a patient’s usual GP (patient must have been active in the last 12 months), UNLESS the patient is experiencing homelessness, is aged less than 12 months, or is in a COVID-19 hotspot. This reversal of patient eligibility aims to ensure Telehealth is not exploited, and the highest quality care is provided to the community.

05.01.2022 A collaboration with Arthritis Australia has resulted in MyRA. If you have Rheumatoid Arthritis have a wonder through this new website.

04.01.2022 I am pleased to let you know that today, the ACT Liberal Party have made a commitment to work with the John James Foundation and MS Australia to build a wellness hub in Deakin which will include specialist therapeutic hydrotherapy facilities. Patricia Clarke, long term advocate for a purpose built hydrotherapy pool in Canberra’s south, and I, were invited to the launch of this commitment. We are pleased to finally see some movement on this development, and I would encourage... all members to encourage the other parties to match this commitment. Hydrotherapy is not something we just ‘want’ it is a desperately required piece of infrastructure that is required for the southside, and once we have certainty on this, we will commence strongly advocating for a similar pool to be provided on the northside or an existing hydrotherapy pool to become accessible to Canberrans at a low cost to improve access to hydrotherapy across our city. Kind regards Rebecca Davey CEO

04.01.2022 NPS and multiple other organisations together with consumers have recently developed tools and information sheets/ booklets for consumers living with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis (PSA) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS). Living guidelines (documents which are constantly being updated) for RA have also been developed to guide rheumatologists and consumers on treatments for RA, use of biologic and methotrexate medications, titrating these down to disease activity and helping consumers develop a greater understanding of RA and medications. This is the first project of its kind in Australia. Living guidelines are also in the process of development for PSA and AS.

03.01.2022 With Aussies spending more time at home this year, our lifestyles are changing in a way that can have a lasting impact on our bone health. This week (17 23 August) is Healthy Bones Action Week, and we’re supporting the initiative by calling on all Australians to integrate 3 simple steps to build and maintain strong and healthy bones - eating calcium-rich foods, like dairy; doing regular weight-bearing exercise; and enjoying safe levels of sunshine for Vitamin D. Learn more about Healthy Bones Action Week and the importance of bone health at www.dairy.com.au/healthybones #HealthyBonesActionWeek @AustralianDairy
