21.01.2022 A question I get asked often is why are oil paints within a brand different prices? Shouldn’t they all be the same price? In professional paint ranges such as Gamblin, Charvin and Art Spectrum their color ranges are divided into series depending on the pigments used. Depending on the pigment’s location, price, its demand and how difficult it is to obtain will determine the cost of each color. ... Paints that are made with expensive pigments will be a higher series and therefore cost more than those made using cheaper pigments which will be a low series and be cheaper. In cheaper paint ranges you will find that the paints will be the same price. Generally they have used cheaper, synthetic alternatives or have reduced the amount of the expensive pure pigment in the colors. See more

14.01.2022 Did you know that opaque paints cover and hide what’s under them, while transparent paints allow more light to pass through them making them see-through. Semi Transparent (aka semi opaque) allow some of what is under them to show through, but cover more than what a transparent paint would. Titanium white is one of the most opaque colours and is great to cover mistakes (to then repaint) and add highlights. A little tip is the more white in a colour the more opaque it will be.... Some of my greatest artworks have formed through adding the wrong color or accidently spilling my paint pot on top of my canvas. Catastrophic at the time but a blessing in disguise.
