25.01.2022 Its nearly here so lets have some Christmas fun Give me your funniest Elf on a Shelf photo

25.01.2022 Hi all. I hope you are enjoying lockdown ! I might have to make one of these - what do you think

23.01.2022 Last day of 2019 !! It was a life changing year for me Was it a good year for you ??

22.01.2022 Remember me It’s been a while but I’m here to tell you The Mouse is back baby !!... After quite sometime away from my sandpaper and paintbrush, I’ve finally been able to get back into a routine which includes my beloved furniture I’m sorry to all my followers for my absence but sometimes life gets in the way But I’m here, I’m working and I forgot just how much I love doing what I do !! I have a few pieces on the go but there will be nothing completed for a little while. I need to get my creative juices flowing before I commit to finishing a piece. I’ve always been quality over quantity and that ain’t changin! In the meantime I’m going back to pulling out dozens of tack nails from an old chair..... Stay tuned

22.01.2022 Im all about refurbishing or repurposing and thought this was a gorgeous use of a chipped teapot

22.01.2022 My little town has a new bakery !! How fantastic does this look Cant wait to head up there for coffee and cake/s

21.01.2022 #sneakpeak Not quite finished but it’s nearly done If you want to be the first to see it, sign up to my VIP mailing list. I promise - no spam

20.01.2022 Theirs is on sale for $920 +tax. Its beautiful! Its made of pressboard and you have to assemble it yourself. . Mine is $425. Its beautiful! Its made of sol...id wood, hand painted with love and comes ready to go. - the profits will buy my groceries! . Both pieces of furniture will scratch if you drag your car keys across the top. Both pieces will suffer wear and tear over time. Both will get water marks from wet drinking glasses. . You are always welcome to decide for yourself which product is right for you and whos business youll support. Just know that there is an actual person, who has worked hard, and will do a real happy dance if you shop small. . #smallbusiness #realdeal #mompreneur #paintedfurniture #blackfriday #consumerbehavior #smallbusinesssaturday #bigvssmall #artisan #artisanmade #handmadewithlove #buffet #antiquefurniture #vintagefurniture #furnituremakeover #furnitureartist #salvagedbykscott See more

18.01.2022 Review of Unique Options Mineral Paint https://www.uopaint.com//australian-mineral-/mineral-paint Colour Ocean Mist Review by Christine Micallef Owner of The Artisan Mouse... I’ve previously reviewed Unique Options Furniture Paint which is a chalk type paint and I loved it. I’ve used it many times for spec pieces as well as custom orders. Their satin sealer is still my favourite (if my preferred wax finish isn’t what is requested) Buying Australian made & owned products has never been more important and when I was asked by Unique Options to again review one of their products, I jumped at the chance. This time around, I was asked to review their newly released Mineral Paint so I requested the colour ‘Ocean Mist’ for a nice coastal look and grabbed some candle stick holders. I have used Mineral Paint before. I use the Fusion (FMP) brand very occasionally, mostly inside drawers as the claim with Mineral Paint is that it doesn’t require a sealer. I’ve found with FMP that finger prints show but when used inside drawers, this isn’t an issue. If I have use FMP on the main body of a piece, I think you still need to use a sealer (my UO satin sealer of course!) So, my challenge was to see if the Unique Options Mineral Paint met my high standards and boy, was I impressed. This stuff goes on very nicely!! The first coat gives a really, really good coverage. Give it a second coat and you are done. That’s always the claim for furniture paints but with some lighter colours, a third or even fourth coat is sometimes necessary but not with the UO Mineral Paint. Two coats gave a very full coverage. It's quick to dry and doesn’t have that acrylic/latex feel that FMP has. This is soft to the touch What about brush strokes ? They are minimal, I’m not even sure sanding between coats or after a final coat was necessary bonus!! Just to see what would happen if I sanded it, I grabbed some 240 grit sand paper and ran it over one of the candle sticks. It gave it an even softer feel and didn’t take off any paint to cause a distressed look. So I then wanted to see if I could distress it if I wanted to. I used 180 grit on the other candle stick and yes, distressing can be done too. As to whether it needs sealing or not, so far, it's fine. I left the candle sticks outside under a pergola for a couple of weeks. They have been covered in dust and blown over in our Melbourne spring winds. I wiped them down with a dry cloth and there are no marks at all. I even tried wiping with a wet cloth to see if the paint would wipe off nope! Plus not one finger print to be seen Yay! Conclusion Love it ! Pros no noticeable brush strokes, two coats for full coverage, dries quickly, easy to sand (if you want to), no sealer needed Cons nothing I can see yet Overall, I think Unique Options is on a real winner here. I love my chalk paint and I love my wax finish but maybe, just maybe, they might have turned me to the other side

17.01.2022 5 hours of sanding so far & still more to do ! My arms are getting a workout but I need some suggestions for something to listen to. Music or other suggestions welcome - please

17.01.2022 Saturday - a wonderful day of the week What is everybody up to this weekend ?

15.01.2022 Has anyone tried this ? I might need to give it a go

15.01.2022 This week I delivered 4 pieces to a customer, a bookshelf, a writing desk and a bathroom cabinet. The fourth was this beautiful coat stand. If you have a piece done by The Artisan Mouse, share your photos on my page. I love to see my pieces in customers homes.

15.01.2022 Phew Ive just finished a large custom job at a customers home. What I started with had been painted with ordinary house paint with, Im guessing, no proper preparation. When that happens, this is the end result. Paint shouldnt be able to come off like this ... I have refinished it in chalk paint and wax which is formulated specifically for furniture but I cant reveal it until its installed in the home because its so large, Im unable to get a decent picture but it will be worth the wait so watch this space.

14.01.2022 Im sitting here enjoying the peace and quiet. The only sound is crickets and cockatoos. What are you up to this Australia Day weekend ?

14.01.2022 Ive been busy painting a custom order - Phew its a big job!! I thought Id share this with you all. Yay or nay ??

14.01.2022 So very true. There is far too much waste going into landfill. One of the reasons I love to refurbish vintage furniture is to save it from landfill. It was well built from real timber and doesnt deserve to be discarded.

13.01.2022 My business is all about saving items from landfill but there are some everyday things that cant be recycled

13.01.2022 Phew !!! That was hard work but #jobdone I hope my customer is happy

12.01.2022 This is exactly the mind set that The Artisan Mouse was created on.
