25.01.2022 Slowly slowly...

24.01.2022 One step back to go three steps forward... Had no power since Fri and the electric company wont reconnect as theres a fault in the line. So, nothing for it but to cut and dig up the whole length of driveway and get @earthtechelectrical in to run new cables. I honestly dont know what Id do without the support of this awesome local tradie. Hopefully well have power back on tonight. Woohoo And I got to spend another whole day on a digger in the sun... And nope, Im not even going to get off to take this stunning selfie ;)

24.01.2022 Worth a look guys... If anyone needs help writing an application please get in touch. These things can seem daunting, but once youve done a few hundred you get a bit quicker lol. #Repost @regionalartsaustralia @regionalartsaustralia are proud to announce the #regionalartsfundboost - a one off targeted investment provided by the Australian Government. These funds will be delivered through the mechanisms of the Regional Arts Fund - a place based program that is designed to meet the needs of each jurisdiction and best practice recovery and responsiveness. Specific state and territory information will be available at the end of June. For further information #linkinbio

23.01.2022 We have a rule in our house... If you do one bit of something you get to claim it all. Hubby washes one plate, he's done the dishes; seems only fair that I do one minute of the jackhammering and claim all of it right?? Joking aside, the old smelly bathrooms are now gone, ready for the plumber to install the new accessible ones in just over a week. So exciting! This is one of the last steps to finishing the building and opening back up. #artisansaustralia #artisansofaustralia #artisansnewgallery #girlsgettingitdone #accessibleartstudios

23.01.2022 Im naturally a rather isolated person. So long as I get to talk to the people I care about Im pretty happy. I look at these chairs and see possibilities for endless tea and chats. They seem comfortable and cosy. Elly has done such a wonderful job of capturing the character of the place not just the physical aspect and Im excited to see the piece in person... If someone doesnt snap it up before it makes it here that is. #Repost @artyfartyelly Watercolour. 12.5cm x 18cm. Thanks to David Bolton for use of his photo. 23.01.2022 Morning all. Thought the artists on this page may be interested to join a new local group that has been started in Ocean Grove. It is a great place to share your work and highlight the amazing things youve all been up to, ask questions and increase your involvement in local arts. The more clusters of artisans in the region the better :) it all just shows how utterly unique and talented this area truly is... Not that there was any doubt. Im looking forward to working with them on an exhibition (fingers crossed) and I think youll agree the pieces already on the page are beautiful. So lucky to live here!

23.01.2022 How wonderful is this painting by in-house artist Tom Romeyn! His big cats are always hugely popular around the studios, but I think this new direction is going to be a definite hit. Not quite finished yet, but the movement and details are captivating. #Repost @tomsfineart ... Cold miserable wet days are great days to paint and it was good to make some progress on this elephant epic. 21.01.2022 Today in reno land...a quick back and sides (clean up that is). Loving being on a different tool for a change.

21.01.2022 What a horrid day. Last night the studios were burgled. Someone broke in and stole a lot of equipment and items. Not only did they smashed our window, break doors and take things that had taken a lot of saving up for, but they stole from the shipping container and threw things the whole way down a remote road, destroying lots of things including books (what kind of evil person destroys books!!!!) Im just grateful that a kind member of the public noticed them and called me to go collect the remains. Its not the things that Im upset about, although thats heart breaking too, its the feeling of violation. I cant believe people do this to others. Hope everyone else had a better day... Not the update I was planning today :(

20.01.2022 Exciting day in the studios today, for me at least... This ugly concrete sheet wall, that's cracked and, well just really yucky, is going ready for some stunning windows to go in instead. They've already taken half of the top off and the light is just shining down into the new studio spaces. Let there be light... #artisansnewgallery #studiosdrysdale #artisanshasmoved #artisansofaustralia #artisansaustralia

20.01.2022 Today Im working on the floors, with a little help from a friend :) The old squash court flooring has been cut up, moved into the gallery, insulated, laid as straight as possible, and now its time to do the detailed work. My helper and I were down on our hands and knees chiseling when I had a flash back to my art history classes and learning about the Italian painter @gustave_caillebotte who created the most stunning painting in 1875, The Floor Scrapers (also known as The ...Floor Stripers). My knees feel their pain... But also satisfaction as we come into the home stretch. Thanks Elly for the help and the boost in spirits! #artisansismoving #notanartisanofaustralia #gustave_caillebotte #museedorsay @artyfartyelly See more

18.01.2022 In-house artist Elly Smits has created the most beautiful piece while in ISO. Its now available for purchase and I think youll agree it is pretty perfect for any wall. 17.01.2022 Some more pieces from one of our artists. How gorgeous are these? So special, custom made with memorial ashes. #Repost @kristinwishart_shweshweroots Ash Jewellery My absolute favourite custom orders at the moment! So so special!

17.01.2022 I cant get enough of these stunning pieces by our very own Kristin. How gorgeous are these? #Repost @kristinwishart_shweshweroots Your Life. Your Jewellery. ... I create jewellery that tells a story and I teach people to do the same. My jewellery collection is fast becoming a highlight reel of my journey. My jewellery doesnt hold a high monetary value. It is far more special. Its not made with white gold and diamonds. Its made of hypoallergenic stainless steel and little bits of me. Its value lies purely in the process of making it and what it represents to me. Nobody else has my jewellery. I can create exactly what I am looking for in terms of colours, patterns or sizes. By using sentimental clothing or fabric or parts of photographs or tickets, I can create jewellery that reminds me of special moments in my life. I can use ashes from a personal loss or fabric from my late grandmothers silk scarf to always hold close. I can even use the front cover of my new favourite magazine. @frankiemagazine Join me in #sparked and release your story. Link in bio! See more

17.01.2022 I don't think it's ever going to get old looking at these beautiful window jewels :) I asked for 'something pretty but practical... Like the Waratah one...'. What I was actually given is so much better. 17.01.2022 Fantastic news from one of our in-house artists. 16.01.2022 This weekend the most amazing couple, that Im so lucky to have in my life and in my team, Shane and Julie, spent the whole weekend working with me and hubby insulating and sheeting the gallery. Insulation is horrid, so today Im prepared and ready to work solo on the insulation until the band gets back together again tonight :D So grateful!!

16.01.2022 How beautiful is this work in progress by our lovely in-house artist Sandra Guilleman! Sandras work is always so playful, her vision of the world brought to life in texture and bright colours. These pieces always brighten up my morning.

16.01.2022 I have a million things to do to get ready for reopening in less than a month now. Small things...like pulling down a wall, varnishing the floor and installing new toilets... But this morning I needed to remind myself why I'm doing this. Why I'm spending nearly every waking moment away from my family and putting everything I have into this place. This is it. This cosy little nook in the gallery space. It looks (and feels) much better in person. Especially with a morning cupp...a and puppy at feet :) The painting is by @tomsfineart who was kind enough to lend it to me for the duration of the COVID lockdown. It's kept me smiling throughout, and I could not be more grateful to Tom, Elly and Sandra, and the rest of the in-house artists, for their support and patience. #itscomingtogether #artisansnewgallery #artisansaustralia #artisansofaustralia #supportlocalartists #artindrysdale #bellarine #bellarinepeninsula #thegallerysystem See more

13.01.2022 What a dreary and cold day! but inside the insulation is starting to help make a difference and the whole gallery is gradually coming together :)

13.01.2022 Floor stained and first coat of varnish on :) Second coat tomorrow and then the gallery will be ready for putting the shelving and pictures back in. This side of the building is really looking the way I'd hoped. We've set an opening date now... To be announced tomorrow with our first exhibition in the new building. 12.01.2022 Another 16 hr day is done... And its too dark to take any pictures. Couldnt have made it through the painting marathon without my sidekick (actually I think Im his) Spike. Very tiring day but so incredibly proud of what weve achieved :) Pictures to follow when its light... Night all

11.01.2022 Its not always easy to say if youre struggling, and its not always easy to find someone youre comfortable telling. But today, as we should every day (especially at the moment), Im asking you all R U Ok? I dont have the answers, but I have an ear or two, and a virtual shoulder for anyone who needs it. www.ruok.org.au has some great support available

11.01.2022 67,000 steps, 43hrs, 13 sanding belts and a LOT of late nights, blood, sweat and tears (dont even talk about the blisters) AND thats just the sanding lol... But this labour of love is really looking her best. Today the skirts, cornice and architraves start going in ready for painting. Not long now! @ Artisans of Australia

10.01.2022 It may look somewhat like a murder room from Dexter right now (theres a lot of plastic sheeting everywhere), but Ive got to admit Im feeling rather proud of what were achieving. Just need to do a final coat on the walls and get those floors coated. How big does the space look! I really am starting to get excited about seeing everyones work back on the walls...

09.01.2022 This is it! Onto the home stretch. Just a few coats of paint and were almost ready to let you all back in... Once were allowed that is :) If youd like to be part of the space please drop me a line, were taking expressions of interest for being included in the shop, as well as bays and exhibitions (solo or joint).... See you soon!

09.01.2022 I couldn't help myself... We're nowhere near ready to start hanging, there's a bit more work to do in the actual building first, but I just wanted to see something beautiful when I walked in this morning. These stunning paintings are by various local artists, including @tonybramwellart who will be hosting a demonstration here early next year, Terry who's been helping me around the place, and in-house artist Sandra. They may not be perfectly level, and I may not have tucked the strings away, but how good does the gallery look :D All pieces are available for sale if you're as excited by them as I am. Feel free to DM me or contact the artist direct (I can provide contact details if you don't have them).

08.01.2022 Look what just arrived at the studios... This beauty is by @glassworkstorquay, Jennifer Sullivan. Can't wait to see it on an actual display unit rather than my desk, but I think you'll agree it is rather wonderful! So much texture!! I can't stop touching it... Although I'm probably not supposed to so sssshhhh #glassworkstorquay #artindrysdale #angleseaarthouse #artisansnewgallery #artisansaustralia #artisansofaustralia

07.01.2022 Just a quick look at the demo derby thats been happening since last week. Shes almost striped back ready to start putting her back together again :)

07.01.2022 While most galleries will be able to start opening their doors from the 1st June (in line with new legislation) we may be a couple of weeks delayed... Some Muppet pulled the walls down Cant wait to start putting everything back together rather than pulling it apart. There have been some fun little finds along the way though which I cant wait to reveal...

07.01.2022 Finally found ten minutes to put up our sign! Love how the blue pops against the beautiful sky :) Thanks hubby and Spike for making it so. Hopefully the sign can be seen from even further away now! #artisanshasmoved #artisansofaustralia @artisansofaustralia

06.01.2022 Ever wanted to learn how to draw people? Looking to advance your existing skills? This series of four tutored life drawing classes are set to be really fun and informative. Really small group numbers in line with COVID regs, so first in best dressed for this one.

04.01.2022 The last couple of days have been a much more creative time for me. No demo. No tradies. It was kind of fun. :) Do you remember the masses of ply we had from moving the old squash court floors? Well, from day one I've had my eye on it as shelving. So this weekend I created (organised?) chaos, spent way too long on the maths of what I wanted to create, and dug right in. What do you think? These modular shelves are nearly ready for some beautiful local pieces to brighten up the space. I'm rather pleased with them. They're not finished, they still need painting and varnishing, but so happy that the months of planning and sketching worked out :D #artisansnewgallery #artisansofaustralia #artisansaustralia #artindrysdale #creatingshelves #beingcreative

03.01.2022 Artisans of Australia stand in solidarity with all those calling for an end to racist laws, discriminatory policing, mass imprisonment and for accountability of deaths in custody. Its completely unacceptable that people are still having to fight for equal rights and that were still having to have these conversations. #blackouttuesday

03.01.2022 Sometimes you have to go one step back to go two steps forward. Today the lovely guys from @supercityconcretecutting are here (again) to get us ready for the new plumbing. Can't recommend these guys enough. Even when they come a day early lol. #becominganaccessiblespace #artisansaustralia #artisansofaustralia #artisansnewgallery #openingsoon #notlongnow

01.01.2022 Really loving the colours in these pure Habotai silk scarves. Not only are they hand rolled and sewn, but they are designed and created by a local artist - @botanical.shadows - a botanical print using natural plant materials sourced right here on the Bellarine, Victoria. They are available in two sizes - 180cm x 28cm and 200cm x 50cm - and a wide variety of colours created by nature. Open today 10-5pm at 33 Murradoc Rd Drysdale. Pop in, support local artists and find yoursel...f something really special all at the same time.
