03.01.2022 So sad that Dave Thomas has passed away. We're so grateful for all the support he gave us screening our films at MIFF over the years. We deeply admire his lifelong passion and commitment to politics and unionism, films and their exhibition. It was always so nice to have a chat over drinks and smokes with Dave pre- and post-MIFF, and in-between and elsewhere...hearing his thoughts and stories on the many films he'd seen and screened, how his garden was coming along, his travel...s in India, especially Kerala, and his political activism across the decades. He was a sensitive, generous and principled man. The last time I ran into Dave, he stopped for a smoke outside the Capitol with a trolley full of 35mm film print trunks from that evening's Melbourne Cinémathèque screenings to take back to the ACMI bio box. Thank you Dave, we'll miss you. Audrey Lam, on behalf of the Artist Film Workshop.

02.01.2022 Artist Film Workshop will be the subject of a program organised by the Austrian Film Museum, titled A Collected Gaze: Australian Handmade Experimental Film 1967-2018.' From the AFM: 'Australian experimental cinema contains many histories. One persistent storyline involves the use of the film medium as a tool to enlarge and enhance the viewer's perception. Another considers the recurrence of co-operative forms in an art practice marked by collectivism and collaboration. Yet another story relays artists' responses to the environment as a subject, protagonist and idea. These threads combine in the three programs of "A Collected Gaze"'. Curated by Danni Zuvela. Films by: Hanna Chetwin, Giles Fielke, Paddy Hay, Louis Marlo, Lucas Haynes, Audrey Lam, Sabina Maselli, Callum Thomson, Richard Tuohy, James Waters

02.01.2022 Tonight 7:30! Rare, recent experimental films from New York City!
