24.01.2022 Put it in your calendar now! This is the second virtual tour by National Portrait Gallery specifically referencing works by and of Deaf and disabled Australians, following the highly successful first tour which took place during Meeting Place 2020. Visitor Services Coordinator Annette Twyman acknowledges the "small representation in the NPG collection of Deaf and disabled subjects and artists, something we are keenly aware of as we continue to move forward on many fronts addr...essing inclusivity across the collection, employment, interpretation and visitor services here at the NPG." We think it's wonderful that NPG are moving in this direction, and we urge other museums and art galleries to similarly interrogate the diversity of the subjects and artists in their collections.

23.01.2022 UNSOUND is being released in cinemas around the country THIS WEEK, with special Q&A screenings scheduled in Perth, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane! UNSOUND tells the story of gigging guitarist, Noah, who finds himself disillusioned and transient, and returns to his mother’s home in Sydney, Australia, seeking connection and rejuvenation. Clashing with his mother over old wounds, Noah seeks solace elsewhere, and soon finds himself swept up in the vibrant, passionate life and of a... young, trans-man, Finn, who is a proud, Auslan-only speaker. But as the two become closer, and with no shared language to fall back on, they only risk hurting each other, as they learn to be true to themselves. A special donations box will be set up at each of the Q&A screenings in support of Arts Access Australia - so please bring along a gold coin or a note to contribute on the night. We are so grateful to the UNSOUND team for supporting our organisation! 11.01.2022 I enjoy taking this childish substance because that is what many people see me as and then owning it big time. Something soft within something so hard. Plasticine also has an oiliness, which can relate it to skin, and it works best when it has been handled. It takes on body heat and reflects it back to us. I see it as an extension of the body, a substance that lives. Sam Peterson on working with plasticine as a medium.
