25.01.2022 IMPLOSION by Marianne Grigore, Oil on Canvas, 47x57cm In this painting I attempted I to create a painting with movement and vivid colour. Implosion reflects the world bursting inwards towards a tighter, more cohesive community. Towards a greater understanding of ourselves, our world and each other. As we are experiencing great change in our lives, my painting attempts to capture the resulting effects of this change. I use a viscosity technique by mixing the oils on a we...t surface and moving the canvas to achieve my desired effect. I am very happy with the result and hope you enjoy this painting as well. Helene has had a love of art all of her life - hobby drawing as as a child and moving into Art Therapy along with a career of Diversional Therapy in mid life. She diversified into her own work on returning to live in Brisbane undergoing many workshops and private tuition which further stimulated her passion to paint. 20.01.2022 MOONLIGHT by Angela Wilson, Acrylic on Canvas in floating frame, 75x61cm The moon, a favourite subject for scientists, poets, writers, musicians and artists, is often identified with memories of special events and emotions. Easily seen in the night sky as it travels through its monthly cycle. It has been the icon influencing legends, weather forecasts, farming and fishing patterns to name a few. Using a limited palette of blues, white and grey, I tried to capture the moments... after all daylight has left the sky and the early rising moon sneaks through the cloud. The moon’s light is reflected off both clouds and water creating a unique aura of translucency. This is the third in the series. The others are titled NIGHTFALL and NIGHT TIDE. When we first came to live in Qld I was fascinated by the ornate wooden trims, shady verandahs and lush tropical gardens. There was something beautiful about these homes, no matter how old or dilapidated they might appear - so I began to paint them and over 30 years later I am still besotted with them. I... think the verandahs hold the appeal - in such a hot climate they speak of shade, coolness, comfort and most of all ‘home'. This house has it all - the verandah seems to go around the whole house - what more could you want? 03.01.2022 Whooo hoooo! CJ Hendry is a fantastic Brisbane artist who now lives in New York. Today she is sharing her art with us here in Brisbane! A few years ago she painted a her own version of Andy Warhol’s soup can and she was subsequently issued with a copyright infringement notice and told to cease and desist. Because she had already printed the image on some T-shirts in order to sell at a an exhibition, she decided to dispose of them. It was a brilliant marketing idea where she p...laced the T-shirts into red boxes marked copyright infringement trash only. And so began a fantastic treasure hunt by art collectors. This year she is dropping the boxes in other cities throughout the world. Keep your eyes peeled Brisbane, the last box was spotted on William Jolly Bridge.
