24.01.2022 Ignatius of Antioch, bishop and martyr (d.c. 115) Almighty God, who gave to your servant Ignatius boldness to confess the name of Jesus Christ and courage to die for this faith: teach us always to be ready... to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of our Lord and Saviour; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. See more

22.01.2022 Aidan of Lindisfarne, bishop and missionary (d. 651) O God, by whose grace your servant Aidan became a burning and a shining light in your Church: grant that we also may be aflame with the spirit of love and discipleship, and walk before you as children of light;... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. 20.01.2022 Mary and Martha of Bethany Faithful God, you have surrounded us with a great cloud of witnesses: grant that we, encouraged by the example of your servants Mary and Martha,... may persevere in running the race that is set before us, until at last with them we may attain to your eternal joy; through Jesus Christ, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. 20.01.2022 Better late than later! The long awaited lighting of the Paschal Candle as services recommence at Ascension on 15 November 2020. The Paschal Candle signifies the pillar of fire in the Old Testament which led the procession of the old Israel through the wilderness, but which is now fulfilled in Christ, who is himself our guide and Light of the World.

19.01.2022 Michael and All Angels The Archangel Michael led the forces of light against the powers of darkness in Revelation 12: Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole worldhe was thrown down to the earth, and h...is angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, ‘Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!’ (Revelation 12:7-12, NRSV) Almighty God, you govern the courses of this world by means too wonderful for us to comprehend: give us reverence before the mysteries of your providence, and grace to know the messengers of your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

17.01.2022 A joyous day at Ascension today! Congratulations Daniel Waite on your Confirmation by Bishop Paul Barker. We continue to hold you in our prayers as God propels you into the next chapter in your life of faith.

17.01.2022 The Feast of Christ the King - The Reign of Christ God of power and love, who raised your Son Jesus from death to life, resplendent in glory to rule over all creation:... free the world to rejoice in his peace, to glory in his justice, and to live in his love. Unite the human race in Jesus Christ your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. See more

17.01.2022 More Australians are at risk of this calamity than at any time since the Great Depression. If the Federal Government it cuts the vital JobSeeker program by $300... a fortnight from 25 September this will create considerable hardship. It will plunge people into poverty, including more than a million children. But there is a large and growing chorus of voices calling on the Federal Government to ensure JobSeeker is above the poverty line, now and into the future. See more

16.01.2022 Let's be honest, most Bible translations are decent. Especially, if we keep in mind four things: 1) We should read multiple translations and not ONLY one. 2) We... should understand what kind of translation we're reading (i.e. is it a word for word, a thought-for-thought, or a paraphrase). 3) We shouldn't base too much theology on any one verse or paragraph, and rather ensure our theology takes the whole of God's word into account. 4) We must be in fellowship with a Christ-centered Church of believers who help us understand good doctrine instead of our own personal interpretations. If we do those four things most translations will serve us well. Translations I trust (with those rules): NIV, NASB, KJV, ASV, Amplified, BBE, CEV, ESV, GWT, Holman, NCV, NET, NLT, NRSV, RSV, TEV, TNIV, Youngs. Translations I wouldn't trust: NWT (New World Translation). It's made by the Jehova's Witnesses to further their ideology. JST (Joseph Smith Translation). Made by Mormon founder Joseph Smith. Translations I would read if I was just looking for a different way to word things, as they are paraphrases or similar, but I wouldn't use it for my primary Bible: The Message, Passion Version, Living Bible

15.01.2022 Dear Victoria, Each day we wake with thoughts of you on our hearts. As our brothers and sisters, when you hurt, so do we. We send our gratitude to you all... f...or making incredible personal and corporate sacrifices to keep your fellow Victorians, and indeed, all other Australians, as safe as can be managed. It is hard for us to imagine these costly burdens you bear, and we are sorry you are suffering so. We give thanks for your leaders and front line workers who work tirelessly and courageously, fronting up each and every day for the greater good. We send you messages of solidarity, blessings and hope as we wait quietly and lovingly with you. Fr Rod & Kerry

14.01.2022 Oswald, 604 - 5 August 641 Saintly King and Martyr Almighty God, who gave to your servant Oswald boldness to confess the name of Jesus Christ... and courage to die for this faith: teach us always to be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of our Lord and Saviour; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. 14.01.2022 Rowan Williams on the Eucharist: We can see, then, that when the risen Christ eats with the disciples it is not just a way of proving he is ‘really’ there; it is a way of saying that what Jesus did in creating a new community during his earthy life, he is doing now with the apostles in his *risen* life. We who are brought into the company of the apostles in our baptism - which, remember, brings us to where Jesus is to be found - share the ‘apostolic’ moment when we gather to eat and drink in Jesus’ presence. And that is why, throughout the centuries since, Christians have been able to say exactly what the apostles say: they are the people with whom Jesus ate and drank after he was raised from the dead. From his Being Christian: Baptism, Bible, Eucharist, Prayer

13.01.2022 To Premier Daniel Andrews, Professor Brett Sutton, their families and teams, and every Victorian who dedicated themselves to the greater good by enduring lockdo...wn ... We say thank you. Words can not convey our admiration, or the esteem we hold you all in. You have made sacrifices we cannot imagine for your state and nation ... people are alive today ... and many more will be, because of your selflessness. If we have ever pondered 'What would I do to save a life, even one?' You have lived that answer; because each and every one of your direct actions means others will now live. We acknowledge and remember that people have died, and send our deepest condolences to those who love and miss them. May they Rest In Peace. It would be remiss not to mention the extraordinarily courageous and dedicated leadership from Premier Andrews and CHO Sutton ... you have exemplified that we are a society first, allowing us a taste of this all too rare expression of humanity in contemporary political and corporate life ...having tasted it we recognise our desire and thirst for it. So ... especially on this day Victoria ... while we understand many of you may still be struggling, we wish you a beautiful experience of life in whatever expression that may take for you. May you go forth (carefully :)) and enjoy your freedom! You are all truly heroes. Fr Rod

12.01.2022 We seldom notice how each day is a holy place Where the eucharist of the ordinary happens, Transforming our broken fragments Into an eternal continuity that kee...ps us. Somewhere in us a dignity presides That is more gracious than the smallness That fuels us with fear and force, A dignity that trusts the form a day takes. So at the end of this day, we give thanks For being betrothed to the unknown And for the secret work Through which the mind of the day And wisdom of the soul become one. 07.01.2022 Commemorating the Martyrs of New Guinea. During World War II, twelve Anglicans working for God’s Church in PNG lost their lives. These are the Martyrs of New Gu...inea and we remember these brave and courageous people by celebrating Martyrs’ Day, on this day, September 2nd. We remember them and all who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Gospel and give thanks for their dedication to God. Almighty God, for seventy eight years the Church has been encouraged by the Martyrs of New Guinea who followed your Son in laying down their lives for the sake of your kingdom. Inspired by their story, like them, may we leave all other cares aside to make it known that you rule with love over the whole world. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and for ever. Amen.

04.01.2022 St Francis of Assisi (d. 3 Oct 1226) O God, whose blessed Son became poor so that through his poverty we might become rich: deliver us from an inordinate love of this world, so that inspired by the devotion of your servant Francis,... we may serve you with singleness of heart, and attain to the riches of the age to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 04.01.2022 AT THE END OF THE YEAR As this year draws to its end, We give thanks for the gifts it brought And how they became inlaid within... Where neither time nor tide can touch them... Days when beloved faces shone brighter With light from beyond themselves; And from the granite of some secret sorrow A stream of buried tears loosened. We bless this year for all we learned, For all we loved and lost And for the quiet way it brought us Nearer to our invisible destination.
