25.01.2022 Greetings from the summit of Mt Snowy! With weather conditions this good, we couldn't stop at one!

24.01.2022 New ground carved out on the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail today as the next chair-adapted section was tested out for the the first time. Section 7A, from Oakden Road to Meander Valley Road via the Crown Land Road Reserve outside the boundary fence of Ben Lomond Estate is impassable to Wheelies. But inside the boundary fence isn't! That also meant completing the trek up Westbury Road and then came the big grind: Chris St. A good night's sleep guaranteed at the end of that one!

24.01.2022 Mt Strzelecki is Flinders Island's highest peak. Rarely without cloud on top - even on a nice day - the hike is quite a bimodal experience of charming forests and grand vistas on the way up, to a bleak, mist-covered summit. But it is certainly a peak that is earned and not given.

22.01.2022 On the third and final day on Flinders Island, the plan was a cruisy outing with the Mrs driving around looking at things, rather than a full-on assault on Mt Killiecrankie. But, then the 331m peak of Mt Tanner came into view and plans changed! The drive there was almost as adrenalin-fuelled as climbing Mt Strzelecki, and the journey to the high point of Mt Tanner was certainly more technical! But it was a great third peak on Flinders to bag and see this fantastic Flinders adventure done.

21.01.2022 Day 2 of John's own Trail Adventures! Hartz Peak and Mt Snowy scored a visit today. Walks like this one, where there are great trails to walk (even the ones not on the map) all come down to the weather. And today was perfect! If this is something you would like to be doing but don't know where to start, start with us! Our next Trail Adventures program is all Launceston-based and will take you on trails you didn't know existed!... The 10-session program starts on January 15th at 6pm for 2 hours, then each Friday after that until the 10 are done! Message John here for an Info Pack.

21.01.2022 It's been a day of walking distance personal bests today! And just one more to come in.

18.01.2022 Greetings from the summit of Mt Field West! What a day to be outside. The view from here in evening light is fantastic!

18.01.2022 Our Power Couple kicked on through the Northern Suburbs on their second lap of the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail, and we all enjoyed the contrast of Tassie Spring day with a warm sunny afternoon while last yesterday's snow blanketed the surrounding mountains. That all helped us strike up the first major compass point of Ascent Fitness' LUFT walking circuit - the most northerly point on Tallentire Road. It's great to see the metrics improve from our first circuit of the LUFT. Undeniable progress!

17.01.2022 What a great week of group walks we had! So nice to see new faces and familiar ones rejoining after the doonah was a bit heavy over Winter! Our playground this week was Trevallyn and the Cataract Gorge. Never short of hills, pokey paths or views there! Check out Ascent Fitness Weekly Walking Group Sessions Info Page to join in for next week. Starting point is posted by Sunday.

17.01.2022 Ah, Flinders Island promised much and, already, it has delivered! Visits to Walkers Lookout and Pillinger's Peak was the perfect pairing to get acquainted with the place. This trip definitely has the cogs turning on an itinerary for an Ascent Fitness Flinders Long Weekend. Who's keen?

17.01.2022 A stellar day to be on the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail and Section 9B, from West Launceston to Trevallyn, includes the biggest climbs in a single section of the 102km trail. The Penstock Ladder and the two hills we call Powerline I and Powerline II were waiting, but so was a glorious, sunny morning, so all was good! This PT lap of the LUFT is just four sessions from completion and it is exciting that it has sparked 3 other LUFT circuits already!

17.01.2022 What a great start to the Ascent Fitness Bushwalking and Mountaineering Program! A two-hour hike through the major section of Kate Reed Reserve gave everyone a chance to walk new trails, test out their gear and try some new skills. And, based on the amount of cheery chat going on, this crew are in for a fine time together! Next session, the crew head for Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park with adventure guaranteed!

16.01.2022 Greetings from the School Holiday Semaphore Walk! Wearing them out nicely!

16.01.2022 And the record books will show that the Tamar Valley Semaphore Walk was a hit in the school holidays! The crew visited all four Semaphore Towers, walking 18km with 630m of elevation in 4 hours. A great effort by everyone, especially as our youngest walking participant was just 5 years of age! We'll do this walk again in the future as it's a great day out with some local fun facts to go with it!

14.01.2022 We're going on an adventure! The Bushwalking and Mountaineering Crew looking rightfully chuffed after a two-hour hike through Kate Reed Reserve. Next stop: Cradle Mountain National Park!

13.01.2022 In our group walking sessions this week, there was plenty of hills for all and some good views along the way! The hills of West Launceston came calling and we answered in the best way possible, taking on three meaty climbs in Hills & Thrills - Upper York St, Basin Road and the ever-loving Brougham St Steps - while the Return to Fitness crew checked out old night cart tracks as they ground their way to their high point on Salisbury Crescent. To join in our weekly, 60-minute group walks, join Ascent Fitness Weekly Walking Group Sessions Info Page and we'll see you there!

13.01.2022 Great to soak up the weather with the New Horizons crew this morning! Monday mornings over the past 6 years have been with this merry mob as they come in to My Gym for a group exercise session. Although they come for the workout, John is here for the top-class shade they throw on each other while getting their exercise on. Thank you to NH Volunteer, Brian, who not only drives the bus, but is a great tail gunner on our walks. If you've got people in your life living with intellectual or physical disability, New Horizons is a great local organisation with a wide range of activities to get stuck into.

12.01.2022 Greetings from the summit of Florentine Peak! What a way to start the day!

12.01.2022 This weekend, Ascent Fitness peeps marked what would have been The Launceston Walking Festival on the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail by walking some personal best distances on the LUFT! All up, they racked up 300km and went further and longer than they expected! Here's some snaps of their exploits, hitting the streets, roads, parks and reserves around the edge of Greater Launceston! The Rotary Club of Central Launceston's Launceston Walking Festival steps off on April 17/18, with a variety of events from an all-abilities flat 4km right up to walking the LUFT in a weekend! Raising funds for local charities, join the Facebook page to keep up to date!

12.01.2022 it's also been busy week on the personal training front. And every trainee has their own story, their own motivation for seeking out Ascent Fitness. The Police hopeful getting ready for selection day, the mum wanting shed some baby weight, the dad wanting to keep up with his growing kids. Each with their own challenges requiring individual solutions. If you're looking for a tailored approach to your fitness journey, message John here to arrange a confidential discussion.

12.01.2022 Greetings from the summit of Hartz Peak! First new Abel for the year and the views are spectacular!

11.01.2022 Trail Adventures Session 3 was a 4-hour slogfest through Trevallyn Rec with the focus being on hiking poles. That meant going to parts of Trevallyn Rec which demonstrated the benefits of using them! With some big hills and longer distances, the crew take on a challenge of a different kind next weekend: how far they can walk in a weekend. Luckily, we have a 102km Launceston Urban Fringe Trail at our disposal!

11.01.2022 A great list of peaks to get up! https://hikingscenery.com/tasmania-best-day-walks/

09.01.2022 What does a personal trainer who loves getting people walking in Tassie's amazing outdoors do on their week away? Walk in Tassie's amazing outdoors, of course! If these shots from Snow Hill, Meetus Falls and Mt Morriston have whet your appetite for Tassie's trails, join our Trail Adventures Program! 10x2 hour sessions on a Friday evening and you don't even have to leave Launceston! We step off on January 15th at 6pm!... Message John here for more info!

07.01.2022 John will be getting away for a week, then things get cracking for 2021! If you're looking to kickstart the new year, here's what Ascent Fitness has coming up! For more details or Info Packs, message John here or via www.ascentfitness.com.au

07.01.2022 Our Wheelie Workouts are getting more folks out in their own backyard! Whether walking or wheeling, Ascent Fitness designs circuits to match, then test, your fitness levels. This session toured the narrow, historic streets of Inveresk where, thanks to the 1929 floods, there's not a straight corner on any house! The session finished with a spin through Riverbend Park and the Seaport, resulting in 5.5km in the 60-minute session. Great going! If your wheels are gathering moss, get them turning with Ascent Fitness! Most NDIS Plans support our activities.

06.01.2022 Starting the new working week off right, this 60-minute PT stroll along the 5-Trigs circuit notched up our first trig point! Near the top of Abels Hill, the view is the pick of the 5 trigs with the Great Western Tiers and Quamby Bluff in full view. We've got 25km to look forward to over the next few sessions which explores a few hidden gems along the way.... If you're after some extra ideas for your walking circuits, message John here.

05.01.2022 Our data finally used for good!

04.01.2022 With the longer days, Ascent Fitness peeps find themselves on trails pretty often, and that inevitably means a visit to the Penstock Ladder. These pics are fascinating, considering much of the key infrastructure for the Duck Reach Power Station is still in place, including the angled penstock that fed water into the turbines.

04.01.2022 Trail Adventures Session 3 is all about using hiking poles. And where better to give them a go but the Penstock Ladder at Duck Reach?!

03.01.2022 A great little outcome for wheelchair users everywhere from our Wheelie Workouts. While making our way on the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail, this section of Murphy Street had a chair-friendly ramp, but the path was unsealed, so chair wheels could get stuck. A quick pic sent to the App Snap/Send/Solve and the Launceston City Council was onto it in no time! Thank you, LCC!

03.01.2022 Catching up with David Heap, co-founder of the Whitemark Wharf Parkrun. A great spot for a 5km up and back!

02.01.2022 In this PT Program, Felicity is walking for two! Completing the Launceston Urban Fringe Trail is the misson and we're about 16 weeks behind schedule! As an ultra runner, underlying fitness is not a problem, so we're cherry picking the toughest parts of the LUFT to do first. That way, we've got the flatter bits left in the last trimester! Today, Section 9C of the LUFT was chalked up. That includes the ultra-rough end to the Powerline Track and scaling the legendary Rowsphorn Road. And done in a canter!

01.01.2022 Greetings from the summit of Pillinger's Peak! A must do on Flinders Island if you like climbing up things.
