24.01.2022 In Art this week students made self portraits using collage materials. The students were able to make a realistic portrait or an abstract portrait and as you can see from the photos they produced very creative artworks! It was also our first time in the new and improved Art Room! All of the students enjoyed the new bright open classroom!
23.01.2022 Recent upgrades to the school. Playground The extension to the senior playground is finished and open for students to use. The students have enjoyed the new additions to the playground; monkey bars, flying fox and more. The playground is cleaned after every break, before and after school. Art room The upgrade to the art room has been completed and looks amazing. The upgrade included; new flooring, new furniture and painting. ... Computer Lab Another room in the school that has had a makeover and looks like a different learning space. The upgrade included; new carpet, new furniture, painting and brand new computers.

17.01.2022 Room 3 and 13 had Karen from Barking Gecko Theatre visit us on Friday as part of a seven week program to intertwine theatre with literature. The students had a hoot playing games and acting!

16.01.2022 Room 11 and Room 13 joined forces yesterday to complete STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths) challenges. Challenges included making paper helicopters, paper chairs and baskets, as well as using Makedo tools to build animals and transportation out of cardboard.
15.01.2022 Cross Country practice. For the last 3 days students from Year 1-6 have been making the most of the beautiful weather and training for Cross Country at lunch times. Each student who takes part in the training receives 4 Faction Tokens for every lap of the course they complete. More than 60% of students are choosing to take part in the training. Keep up the great work!
15.01.2022 Meet Mrs Dunn, I have been at Ashfield since Term 1 2020. I have come back from leave after being at home raising my two children. My youngest started kindergarten this year and so it was the perfect time for me to get back into the classroom. Outside of school you will mostly be able to find me chasing after my two children. As a family we love exploring the outdoors, especially the coast. In my spare time I really like to keep active and spend time with my friends. ... I love working at Ashfield because the team of teachers and admin that are a part of this school make it a special place to work. I enjoy knowing all the students and I have learnt a lot from them this year.

14.01.2022 Today we had a visit form Hon Dave Kelly MLA, local member for Bassendean, to personally deliver pizzas for our staff for lunch today. Dave dropped it to acknowledge and thank the amazing staff at Ashfield Primary School for the fantastic work they have done supporting our students and school community through this challenging time.
12.01.2022 Town of Bassendean International Women's Day Celebration Breakfast. Taryn, Eloise and Mr Leslie had the pleasure of spending the morning with Mayor, Cr Renee McLennan and Professor Lyn Beazley AO. Professor Lyn Beazley AO has dedicated over 30 years to neuroscience, researching recovery from brain injury and changing clinical practice in the treatment of premature infants. Professor Beazley is a distinguished neuroscientist and 2015 West Australian of the Year who has made a major contribution to the promotion and direction of science in Australia. As Chief Scientist for Western Australia (the first female to hold such a state role nationally) she championed gender diversity and science in the classroom through programs such as Microscopes in Schools, in addition to shaping science policy.

10.01.2022 Meet Mr Alex Elliott, I started working at Ashfield Primary School in Term 3 as the Physical Education Teacher after recently graduating from Edith Cowan University. When I am not at school I enjoy playing footy and surfing. ... I like working at Ashfield Primary School because staff are helpful and friendly. 06.01.2022 Interschool Cross Country Carnival Congratulations to the Interschool Cross Country team for their outstanding effort at last Fridays Interschool Carnival at Embleton Primary School. It was an amazing effort by our athletes who have been training hard for the last 3 weeks and were able to see that hard work pay off. Everyone displayed fantastic sportsmanship and gave their very best effort. Congratulations to Kevin Lally who won the Year 5 boys race.

04.01.2022 Art Update Room 14 Over the last few weeks we have been experimenting with different artists and drawing styles. These village pictures are not yet complete but they are looking good so far. ... Room 13 Heather Geller was the artist inspiration we used to create these amazing flower bouquets. We drew the bouquets with pencil then a sharpie, coloured parts of our pictures with oil pastels and completed out artwork with water coloured paints. Room 11 These art pieces are called After the Fire. After the devastating fires in January we were inspired to create an artwork. We blended warm colours for the background, created shadow trees and landscapes, bubble blew the smoke and added embers with cellophane. Room 8 After reading Dont let the pigeon drive the bus by Mo Willems Room 8 did a guided drawing of the main character, the pigeon. They used oil pastels and water colours to complete their artwork.

03.01.2022 Kinetica Circus Workshops today. All students from Kindy to Year 6 took part in this free event. The workshops included aerial trapeze, juggling, hula hoop, spinning plates, tumbling and acrobatics.
