24.01.2022 Temporary Saturday Closures Ashford Avenue Family Practice In light of the current coronavirus situation, we will be closing on Saturdays for the next few weeks as of 21/03/2020. We will aim to re-open Saturdays once we find a way to manage our workflows and policies which we are needing to review. We are open our usual business hours on Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm.... We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you all for your ongoing support during this difficult time.
23.01.2022 Update on our current pandemic policy As the Covid-19 situation continues to get worse and with impending lockdown measures in NSW, we will continue to operate in a reduced capacity as best we can. 1. If you have a recent travel history and/or fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or flu-like symptoms. Do not come to the practice. Please call us or present to the local Covid clinic.... 2. Please be honest about your history when asked. If you have had any recent travel history or fever or any respiratory symptoms we need to know. This includes all symptoms however mild they may seem. There have been cases where this trust has been breached. This puts our staff and other patients at risk. We will have no choice but to turn you away from the practice if this happens in the future. 3. We will be keeping our waiting room clear. Please do not walk in to the practice until we ask you to - even if you have an appointment. Please call reception from your car and we will provide further instructions. 4. Please use the option of telephone consults if at all possible. Do not come to the practice unless you really have to. 5. We will continue childhood immunisations and newborn checks. 6. We will provide information about flu vaccines once we receive our stock in the near future. 7. If you must come in, please do not bring other people with you including children if possible. If a child needs to come in, please do not bring other siblings to the consultation. 8. All routine checks will be suspended for the time being including CSTs (pap smears), skin checks and health assessments. If, however, there are specific concerns, please call for an appointment to discuss.
23.01.2022 Ashford Avenue Family Practice will be closed for the Easter Long Weekend. We will close on Good Friday 19th April 2019 and will reopen at 8:30am on Tuesday 23rd April 2019. The practice will also close on ANZAC Day the 25th April 2019. If you require a doctor during this period an after hours doctor can be reached via National Home Doctor on 137425. If it is an emergency, please present to your nearest Emergency Department or dial 000.

22.01.2022 There have been more confirmed cases of COVID-19 associated with the Crossroads Hotel at Casula. Please take note of the latest health advice. Given the increasing case numbers in South West Sydney, we would also advise for anyone residing or working in the area to take precautions. Even if you havent been to the venue, if you develop even the mildest of symptoms, please isolate and get tested. We will return from the mid year break on Wednesday 15th July 2020.
22.01.2022 The practice will be closed tomorrow, Friday 14th February from 1130am to 2pm for inhouse training. Sorry for the inconvenience. #milperra #ashfordavenuefp
21.01.2022 COVID-19 update 16 July 2020 Following on from the recent cluster of cases in Casula, there have now been reports of confirmed cases in Milperra. As a result, we will be back to conducting all our consultations via telehealth for the foreseeable future.... We will temporarily cease all routine face to face consultations including childhood immunisations and cervical screening for the rest of this week (Thursday 16th and Friday 17th July). This will allow us time to prepare our workflow systems so we can continue to provide essential face to face consultations as safely as possible during this critical time. (We will still provide face to face consults for cases requiring urgent review as determined by your doctor.) From next Monday 20th July, we will resume essential face to face services including childhood immunisations, cervical screening for previous abnormal results and any other consultation that is urgent requiring face to face review as determined by your doctor. There will be requirements for patients to wear masks and for these appointments to be at certain times of the day. Anyone who had a face to face appointment this week will be contacted to reschedule their appointment to next week. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused for those affected. Please remember to continue social distancing at all times, stay home if unwell, call for advice and get tested. This applies to anyone with even the mildest of symptoms as some confirmed cases have only had very mild symptoms or have been asymptomatic. Whilst we understand things may be inconvenient, we ask our patients for your understanding and patience. Our aim is to continue to provide medical care whilst limiting risks of community transmission through this pandemic. Thank you for your ongoing support.
20.01.2022 Coronavirus Outbreak. The majority of cases of this virus have been detected in Wuhan, China. However, there are now confirmed cases in countries outside of China. As of 27/1/2020, 5 cases of the virus have been confirmed in Australia. This number is expected to rise. So what do we know about it? Information about this virus is continuing to be updated as we learn more about it in these early stages. There seems to be an incubation period of up to 2 weeks before symptoms deve...lop including fever, sore throat, cough and shortness of breath. It can lead to complications such as pneumonia. Concerningly, it seems that the virus can be spread during the incubation period when the person infected has no symptoms. There have been no fatalities reported outside of China so far. If you have been in China and returned less than 2 weeks ago and have symptoms avoid contact with other people. Do not go to your GP as most medical centers are not equipped to handle this virus. Testing is done in a hospital setting. If you are unwell, stay at home and contact your GP, or nearest emergency department or HealthDirect Hotline on 1800 022 222 for advice. https://www.smh.com.au//what-is-coronavirus-and-how-worrie

We will close at 3pm on Friday 20th December 2019 and will reopen at 8:30am on Monday 6th January 2020. If you are a regular patient of the practice, please check to see if your scripts will see you through the holidays.... If you require a doctor during the Christmas and New Year period, an after hours doctor can be reached via National Home Doctor on 137425. 19.01.2022 There have been 2 recent cases of COVID-19 in South West Sydney in the past week. The 2 people were unrelated but both were present at the Crossroads Hotel at Casula on July 3rd. This makes it very likely they were both infected by a third party whilst at the venue. This is concerning as it means there are potentially others who have also been infected. It has been over a week since these people attended this venue which means in that time further community transmission may h...ave occurred in South West Sydney. If you have even the mildest symptoms please phone for a consult and get tested. There is currently a pop up testing clinic open at the venue. The current outbreak in Victoria is a reminder of how easily COVID-19 can escalate out of control. We have noticed a recent drop in patients presenting with cold and flu symptoms which is unusual for this time of year. We urge everyone to present with the mildest of symptoms as the virus is still present and we cannot afford to be complacent despite NSW being relatively lucky up to now. Please follow health advice and stay home if unwell, phone for advice and get tested. We will be back open on Wednesday July 15 after our short Winter break. #milperra #ashfordavenuefp #covid19 #staysafe #socialdistance

16.01.2022 Despite a steady drop in new daily case numbers of COVID-19, now is not the time to become complacent. There has been a slow increase in community transmission, particularly in certain areas including Liverpool. Please stay diligent - wash your hands and stay home if at all possible. If you are unwell (fever, cough, sore throat, short of breath) and live or work in an area listed as a hotspot, call your GP as we are aiming for increased testing to detect these cases in these areas of NSW. #ashfordavenuefp #milperra #covid19 #nswhealth #stayhome #staysafe #notjustaflu #liverpool

14.01.2022 Update on Covid-19 Bulk Billed MBS Telehealth Services As many of you may have heard, the Federal Government has urgently expanded the range of telehealth item numbers during this current pandemic. From 30th March 2020, all Medicare eligible Australians can receive bulk-billed telehealth services for a wide range of consultations. This includes all standard consultations including such things as GP Mental Health Plans and GP Chronic Disease Management Plans (or Care Plans as ...widely known). The measures have been put in place to allow people access to essential Medicare funded health services in their homes and reduce their risk of exposure to Covid-19. During these extraordinary circumstances, we will bulk-bill all telehealth items, including for GP Mental Health Plans for which we used to previously charge an out of pocket fee. We expect there will be an increased demand for these types of consultations as many of us face an uncertain future and multiple stressors. We are relieved that these needs are being recognised by the Federal Government and we will strive to assist where we can. There will always be a need for certain consultations to be face to face. Aside from routine childhood immunisations, all other face to face consultations will be up to the discretion of our doctors so that appropriate precautions can be taken. We aim to continue face to face appointments for as long as we can safely do so. Please remember, we will not see any walk-in patients during this time and we ask for you not to present face to face if you have a fever or any respiratory symptoms such as cough, sore throat, runny nose or flu like symptoms. All telehealth appointments will require an appointment as you would for a normal appointment at our practice. Telehealth appointments can be made online via HotDoc or by calling reception on 9774 3388.
14.01.2022 Practice Update - 24th May 2020 Whilst the pandemic is not yet over, we have done well to flatten the curve and we are all starting to adjust to a new normal. At Ashford Avenue Family Practice we are looking forward to resuming most of our routine services and seeing more of our patients again.... We will continue to offer telehealth services as our primary means of consultation. We are also able to provide chronic health management plans (care plans) and mental health plans via teleconsult. We will be resuming our usual preventative care including routine health assessments, cervical screening (pap smears), skin checks and biopsies, and diabetic check ups. We will also be able to perform ECGs, Implanon insertion/removal and IUD removal. Please be aware blood tests and spirometry testing will not be resuming at this stage. All routine childhood immunisations, baby checks and pregnancy care has been uninterrupted during the pandemic and will continue to be provided as usual. Whilst we are resuming most of our usual services, this is still within the context of the ongoing pandemic and social distancing measures will continue to be in place. This means we will require all patients to phone on arrival and wait in their cars in order to keep our waiting areas clear. Histories will be taken over the phone in order to minimise contact times. Everyone entering the practice will have their temperature checked at the door. It is also asked that only one parent accompany any child to their appointment. Please do not present if you are unwell with fever or any respiratory symptoms or have been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. Please call for a telehealth consultation. We will not be able to accomodate walk-ins but please phone us if an urgent appointment is required. We will remain closed on Saturdays for the time being. We aim to resume Saturday mornings in the near future and will let you know in the coming weeks. Whilst the new normal may cause some inconvenience, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we strive to adjust to this new normal and keep our staff and patients safe. #ashfordavenuefp #milperra #practiceupdate #covid19 #newnormal #socialdistancing
10.01.2022 A number of patients have come in with breathlessness and coughing in the last week - a common link between these patients is exposure to the smoke haze. 09.01.2022 Please take time to read the latest health alerts from NSW Health. There continues to be community transmission of COVID-19 in South West Sydney. Please get tested even with the mildest of symptoms. This may mean you need repeat testing each time you get sick. Remember to isolate until you have recovered even if your result is negative. Masks are encouraged in spaces where social distancing is not possible. Please bring a mask to all your face to face appointments at our prac...tice. Telehealth rebates have been extended by Medicare and we will continue to provide telehealth consults whenever possible. https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/news/Pages/20200919_01.aspx #covid #ashfordavenuefp #milperra #idontthinkihavecovid #covidtest #13cabs #maskup #telehealth #communitytransmission

06.01.2022 Coronavirus Update Ashford Avenue Family Practice 15/03/2020 We are starting to see a steady increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in Australia. Unfortunately the message from the health authorities and politicians have been less than adequate and confusing. The message from the medical community is clear. Social distancing is what is required to flatten the curve and we need to do it now. To put it in simple terms, if a lot of people simultaneously became unwell with C...ovid-19, even if a small proportion of these people required a hospital bed, there will be huge pressures on our hospital system put it simply there are simply not enough beds and not enough trained staff to care for a sudden increase in patient numbers. Not only will this affect patients unwell with Covid-19, but anyone of us who may require a hospital bed for any other reason think strokes, heart attacks, motor vehicle accidents or even a broken leg. We all have a duty to help flatten the curve so there is not a huge spike in patients requiring hospital care all at once. By doing this, we are protecting ourselves, our community as a whole. So what can we do as a society? Avoid big gatherings and crowds, postpone parties and non-essential events, work from home if possible. Stay home if you are unwell. Wash your hands. Is this all media hype and an over-reaction? The medical community are concerned based on what we can see happening in other countries that are a few weeks ahead of us on the curve. Reports from Wuhan, China and the Lombardy region in Italy are of an overwhelmed health service unable to cope with the sheer numbers doctors having to decide which patient will get the next available ICU bed and which one will be left to die due to limited resources. Covid-19 is unlike any flu or common cold that we have seen before. Our hospitals are already operating at near capacity on a daily basis. We only have 2000 ICU beds nationwide and there are huge pressures during the annual influenza season, even prior to Covid-19. The coming weeks will potentially see unforeseen pressure on the health system but we aim to reduce the peak by being proactive and to follow the footsteps of countries that have had success with social distancing measures such as Singapore and Hong Kong. Sadly, panic buying and the toilet paper saga has turned the situation here into a bit of a joke. As a medical community, we continue to put pressure on the government to do more with social distancing measures, to try and get this message across to the general public. We are all in this together and we all have a duty to flatten the curve. #milperra #ashfordavenuefp #flattenthecurve #covid19 #coronavirus

03.01.2022 In light of recent events involving the coronavirus outbreak, Ashford Avenue Family Practice will be implementing these new practice policies. Anyone, irrespective of their travel history, who has ANY of the following symptoms - fever, sore throat, cough or runny nose, will need to phone ahead and inform reception. There is now early local transmission of the illness and therefore it is becoming difficult to determine risk based on travel history alone. There has also been di...ffering opinions and advice as to who should be tested. Unfortunately, we are unable to safely assess and test for COVID- 19 at our practice due to lack of isolation rooms and waiting areas, not to mention our lack of masks and other personal protective equipment for us to safely take swabs. The current official advice from NSW Health remains that even if you have symptoms of flu like illness, unless you have been overseas recently or been in contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19, you are not considered high risk and unlikely to need testing. However depending on the circumstances, there may be exceptions which determine the need for testing. Please see the NSW Health website for the latest official updates - https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//dise/Pages/coronavirus.aspx If you are unwell, our advice is to present to the local Emergency Department but to phone ahead prior to presenting. Most patients with a mild fever, cough, sore throat or runny nose will be best managed with rest at home. We will be offering telephone consults in the coming days. This will be available for patients with flu like symptoms, but this may also be for any patient who does not want to come in to the practice due to concerns about potential exposure. It will be up to the doctors discretion to determine if it is a problem that is suitable for a telephone consultation. Eg. For repeat scripts, referral letters, or medical certificates. There will be an out of pocket fee for all telephone consults as this is currently not covered by Medicare. There is currently an urgent push for the government to introduce a new Medicare rebate for telephone consults which will hopefully be enacted in the near future. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. All of this is subject to change with short notice as this is an evolving situation and we are trying our best to follow guidelines and directions from the health authorities. Unfortunately, there have been discrepancies in the advice we have received. We hope you can understand that by implementing these measures we are trying to protect all members of our community, including the most vulnerable, until there are better means to deal with the situation.
02.01.2022 Ashford Avenue Family Practice will close from Saturday 8th June 2019 for the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend. We will reopen again on Tuesday 11th June from 8:30am. If you require medical assistance during this period, please call National Home Doctor on 13 74 25 or call 000 if it is an emergency. #ashfordavenuefp #milperra #queensbirthday #longweekend
01.01.2022 Covid-19 - What is happening at Ashford Avenue Family Practice? We are minimising face to face consults as much as possible and we will aim to keep our waiting room clear. We will not be taking any walk in patients during this time. If you are unwell with any fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, or general flu-like symptoms AND/OR have been overseas in the last 14 days before symptom onset, please call reception for further instructions. We will most likely offer a telephon...e consult or if you are very unwell, direct you to a flu clinic or emergency department. Medicare have released new item numbers for telephone consults. This means some patients will be eligible for the rebate if they meet the MBS criteria* and we will bulkbill these consults. If you do not meet the MBS eligibility criteria, we will still offer a telephone consult for a private fee. We urge all patients, even if you are well, to re-consider the need to physically come in to the practice, especially if you have a chronic condition or are immunocompromised. We hope most things will be able to be sorted over the phone, fax and secure email. All non-urgent health checks will be postponed during this time and we will no longer be performing any blood tests. For the time being, provided you are well, we will continue routine childhood immunisations and antenatal checks. We will have further information on how we will be administering flu vaccines in the near future. Please note, we do not have facilities to test for coronavirus at our practice. There is a nationwide shortage of PPE and test kits, meaning strict testing criteria must be met before tests are ordered. Employers and schools should not be requesting swabs to be taken for clearance purposes unless there is a clear risk factor. This is subject to change as more testing kits are supplied and wider community testing is enabled. Whilst these changes may be inconvenient, please be aware we are trying our best to keep all of us safe as a community for both our staff and patients, including our most vulnerable. We hope these measures can help flatten the curve and keep us operating safely for as long as possible. *MBS criteria for bulkbilled telephone consults Patients that have been seen by their GP in the last 12 months and where at least one of the following apply: 1. has been diagnosed with Covid-19 but who is not a patient of a hospital, or 2. has been advised to isolate themselves in quarantine in accordance with AHPPCs home isolation guidance, or 3. is considered more susceptible to Covid-19, being - at least 70 years old, or - at least 50 years old and is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or - parent of a child under 12 months, or - already under treatment for chronic health conditions, or - is immunocompromised. 4. the person meets the current criteria for suspected Covid-19 infection For a full list of Covid-19 telehealth MBS items visit www.bit.ly/mbs-telehealth
