18.01.2022 KNOW WHEN TO MOVE ON! Your child is a handful. You get calls from the school nearly every other day about their ‘impulsiveness’. They’re 6 years old, academically bright, yet they already have the reputation of ‘that kid’. You’re paying a small fortune in private school fees because you’ve bought into the school’s reputation as one of the best. What do you do when the school you’ve worked so hard to get them into wants to cut the cord because your child isn’t the calibre of ...student they’d like? At what point do you cut your losses? I’ll never forget the day I walked into my yr 5 classroom and a student said ‘hey, miss! Check this out’ and ran full speed, head first into a brick wall to see what I’d do. That young man is on this page and you know who you are, lol Was I tested? Of course! Did I go home to lick my wounds, yes. Did I ever tell a child they’re not good enough, NEVER! Did I let other students discipline or ‘manage’ my boisterous students, NO WAY! Did I do everything right, of course not. There comes a point in every educator’s career where you have to ask yourself if you’re cut out for this. The truth is that no matter how much you like the idea of being an educator, if you’re not able to get the job done then you either get support to develop your skills or move on. You DON’T tell a child that they’re bad and too naughty. Yes, this child was told that If you’re a parent/guardian and you are actively trying to help the situation, then communicate openly with the school, follow through on your end and be consistent. Supporting the school’s efforts is important. If you’re constantly hitting a brick wall and the situation is impacting your child’s well-being then ask yourself if the school’s reputation is worth such a high cost? As adults, we need to know when to stay and when to move go. Our children are worth the respect and inconvenience that moving on can bring with it. Moving on isn’t about escape and avoidance. It’s about honesty. Pick your battles wisely and know when to move on!

17.01.2022 SMALL GESTURES, BIG IMPACT Maddie has been working so hard to get her pen licence, so I allocated a few minutes of our session to help her. I made it a priority because what’s important to her is important to me. I’m sooo happy to report that she got it! Now, Maddie already messaged me with the great news and wrote me a very sweet message the other day. I was about to sign off when I saw this gorgeous message in Seesaw.... It’s amazing how small gestures can mean so much to us. There’s so much power In kindness. Her beautiful gesture means a lot to me! I guess I’ve got a new profile pic I’m so blessed to do what I do.

12.01.2022 This is what brilliant teacher feedback looks like! Congratulations, Aadi! People don’t realise how important feedback is. Simply stating something like you’ve provided a sophisticated piece of writing, well done doesn’t let the student know what they’ve done well, so they can replicate it or let them know where to lift because there’s always room to improve. This teacher is a legend!
