25.01.2022 As many people are isolating at home, there is a large increase in the number of people using indoor trainers. Training indoors has been seen to increase your core temperature due to the limited cooling available. This increases plasma volume which can lead to an increased VO2max (Lorenzo et al, 2010). So if you can’t get outside, jump on the trainer, give @gozwift a try and you may come out of this period stronger than ever #sportsscienceconsulting #zwift #wahooligan #kickr #indoortraining #ergo

14.01.2022 Fitness testing - It comes in all shapes and forms from heaviest weight lifted to fastest time to run 5km. The gold standard in cardiovascular fitness testing is the VO2max test. Generally performed in a laboratory, the test requires a person to be connected to a metabolic cart with a mask to measure how much oxygen you consume and how much carbon dioxide you exhale. From this we can get a VO2max value which, in simple terms, shows your cardiovascular fitness. If you have t...he chance to get into a lab for this test it’s highly recommended. But many people won’t get this chance, So @aspect_performance offers a range of testing options for different sporting populations whilst also offering blood lactate testing for athletes looking to really develop their performance. #sportscienceconsulting See more

10.01.2022 Exercise Focus: Inverted Rows The Inverted Row is a exercise that targets the muscles of the upper back as well as the lats, biceps and shoulders. It is great for building strength and is commonly used as a progression towards a regular pull up. As you can see, some of the body weight is supported by the ground making this beginner friendly.... This exercise transfers really well to many sports like swimming (strong back for strokes) and especially contact sports that require muscle mass to protect the body during impact and movement. Try this exercise in your next strength session and see how you go! #strengthandconditioning #invertedrows #resistancetraining #sportsscienceconsulting

07.01.2022 With not many events on the horizon now is the time to wind back the intensity and work on the base fitness. Get outside, ride, run or swim and enjoy the outdoors. Be safe, have fun and before you know it the races and events will be back on! #outdoors #adventure #training

03.01.2022 Tiers of Performance- This is what I use to develop every clients plan. Essentially, the base of all performance is health. Optimising diet, injury minimisation, recovery and just overall wellness. These are the things that set the ground work for us to build on. If this section of the pyramid is off, then it needs to be fixed before moving forward. Then we move to function. Here we look at movement patterns, repeating movements, how the body handles loads etc. This sectio...n is intended to help understand what the body can do and to what degree it can handle changes. The top tier is performance. Here we look at the smaller things like optimising strength, capacities and those final 1%. This exact same frame work should be applied to EVERY SINGLE PERSON. Whether the goal is to lose weight, build strength or race at a world class level. You start with the bottom and work up. #strengthandconditioning #health #performance #sportsscience
