20.01.2022 Important information for everybody to consider.

19.01.2022 This simplifies what governments are trying to achieve with shutting down services, schools, etc.

19.01.2022 There are known links between our lifestyle and physical and mental health. The glycaemic index is a value assigned to foods based on how slowly or how quickly those foods cause increases in blood sugar levels. Researchers have discovered that the low GI foods, which give us more stable blood sugar levels, can be useful for moderating our moods. In one example of a trial investigating the link between diet and mood, participants who stuck to a low-GI diet, with a glycaemic l...oad of less than 125 per day, reported lower mood disturbance, fewer depressive-type symptoms, and lower levels of fatigue. Some examples of low-GI foods include sweet potatoes, multigrain bread, and basmati rice. You can find out more about the GI index and access a GI calculator here: http://www.glycemicindex.com/ https://www.gisymbol.com/

14.01.2022 Get out in this lovely autumn weather people!

13.01.2022 People with a diagnosis of mental illness are at much higher risk of physical diseases such as diabetes, lung disease, cancer and heart disease. This is likely ...due to a number of factors, including the side effects of medications used to treat mental ill health, higher rates of cigarette smoking and alcohol use, focus on mental health treatment rather than physical health, and the social isolation and stigma that can accompany mental ill health. In Australia, this has contributed to a large life expectancy gap between those with severe mental ill health, and those without a similar diagnosis. One study estimated this gap at 16.4 years for men with a severe mental health diagnosis. Others have suggested that there could be up to a 30% reduction in total life expectancy- that’s over 20 years. See more

11.01.2022 Shoulder to shoulder we can celebrate the men and women who serve and who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and way of life.

11.01.2022 MENTAL HEALTH FACT The experience of psychological distress and mental ill health is higher amongst socioeconomically disadvantaged Australians. People living in areas of the greatest socioeconomic disadvantage are twice as likely to be experiencing psychological distress compared to those in high socioeconomic areas. (18.3% vs 9%). Some factors contributing to this inequality include financial distress, housing insecurity, higher rates of physical ill health, poorer access to mental health services, and greater exposure to crime, incarceration, and violence. Mental ill health can also contribute to socioeconomic disadvantage by making it more difficult to obtain and continue work. Around 25% of Australians who report having a mental health condition have experienced homelessness.

11.01.2022 Of the 3,046 push-ups you or your team are completing this year, 2,320 of them represent men who lost their life to suicide in Australia in 2018. That’s over 75...% of the total. Women experience mental health issues at higher rates than men, but men are less likely to seek help for them. Some spaces within our communities exist especially to support the mental health of the men in our lives, like the Men’s Shed. Men’s Sheds provide open workspaces where men can socialise, work, or help out their communities. If you or a male you know needs to talk to someone about mental health, Mensline is a national service for men providing referrals, counselling and support. Call 1300 78 99 78 (24 hours a day). 09.01.2022 To all our patients due to come in over the next few weeks. We have decided that we will be limiting direct contact between our staff and patients at this time. Our doctors will be using either phone consults or video consults to assess your condition. ... If you are a new patient and have minimal symptoms, or a chronic condition, then your review will be delayed until things get back to normal. If your symptoms or problem is new/severe, then the best treatment will be determined in consultation with your referring doctor. Please understand that most of our patients are in the highest risk category from this infection and the doctors have made this decision with your best interests at heart. If you think you may have Coronavirus, please contact your local hospital to arrange testing as we are unable to do any of this in our offices. We thank you for your understanding in this very unusual situation. Andrew Newcomb Jim Dimitriou Nick Roubos Shoane Ip.
