24.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. COVID-19 has seen many workers working from home, but for some home isn’t safe. For many people experiencing family violence, their workplace is the only safe place. It is a space where arrangements can be safely made to leave family violence. Working from home has now made workplaces unsafe for many workers. ... In association with Unions NSW and Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia, the ASU has developed a guide to "Working From Home - when home isn't safe". Download a copy here: https://www.asumembers.org.au/working_from_home_when_home_i

24.01.2022 Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. It’s a good reminder that we all need to talk more about mental health both in the workplace and in our community. We want to give a shout out to all the ASU members working in community mental health services. Your work is often undervalued and overlooked but you are essential workers on the frontline. This year has been really challenging, and you’ve been there for the most vulnerable in our community.... Remember, there's more to say after "are you ok?". We regularly run Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace training (we ran it online last night!) and it’s available online and on-demand for ASU members. If someone says they’re not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check-in. That conversation could change, or even save, their life. RUOK? Day ASU - By Your Side

24.01.2022 Community and disability workers across Australia are between $200 and $650 better off each week because ASU members won Equal Pay. Your pay is going up again on December 1st. Find out by how much at https://myequalpay.com.au.

24.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging time for many of us. We’re running Mental Health Awareness in the Workplace: Understanding the Basics, an online webinar for ASU members. Run by qualified psychologist Sherelle Connaughton, the webinar will explain the basic signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, discuss how we manage these challenges in the workplace and explain support roles and responsibilities and referral sources.... 24.01.2022 Today, there are more than 1 million Australians are out of work. The Government should be focusing on protecting jobs. However frontline jobs in our community sector are at risk because the Federal Government plans to walk away from the sector. After funding their fair share for 8 years, the Federal Government hasn't yet committed to ongoing funding of Equal Pay. This would leave a $500 million funding black hole in the community sector.... We can't afford to walk away from jobs and services. We can't afford to add tens of thousands of skilled, essential community workers and carers like Peita to the unemployment queue. We must Save Equal Pay. www.saveequalpay.com

23.01.2022 Today is Equal Pay Day. Back in 2012, union members in the community sector won Equal Pay. We won pay rises of between 23% and 45% for every worker in our sector.... The Fair Work Commission ordered that our Equal Pay increases be phased in with the final installment due later this year in December. Our work was undervalued and underpaid but together we won funding from the federal and state governments to fund our new higher rates of pay. And now, the Federal Government is turning its back on the community sector and walking away from an 8-year commitment to fund Equal Pay. Our frontline and essential community services can’t afford the proposed $500 million cut to the sector. Australia can’t afford to lose thousands of jobs and the vulnerable people our sector supports can’t afford to see thousands of local services close their doors. Tell the Government to save jobs, save services and Save Equal Pay in the October Federal Budget. https://saveequalpay.com #EqualPayDay #EPD2020

19.01.2022 When the government announced their plans to increase the cost for social work and similar degrees ASU members signed petitions, wrote to MPs and held meetings in our workplaces. Yesterday 10 ASU members from across Australia met with over 40 politicians from across the political spectrum to explain why this was a bad idea. Today the government has listened to frontline, essential workers and scrapped the fee hike.... Our community workers and social workers do an incredible job supporting some of the most vulnerable in our community. They are frontline and essential workers - and must be valued. https://www.smh.com.au//government-cuts-course-fees-locks-

19.01.2022 This is Tony. Tony is a union delegate at Sydney's Central Station. Tony has been helping people get to and from work on Sydney Trains for 38 years. 18.01.2022 When the pandemic first hit, unions called for a wage subsidy and unions finally convinced the Government to introduce JobKeeper in April. Now, they're cruelly turning it off too early. 3.5 million people are currently receiving the JobKeeper payment and will be worse off from this week. That’s more than a third of the pre-COVID workforce.... These cuts will hit the most vulnerable workers the hardest. ASU members are invited to an All Member Briefing on changes to JobKeeper and JobSeeker this week hosted by Deputy Secretary Judith Wright (check your email for invitation.) Post your questions below and we’ll answer them at Wednesday’s briefing.

18.01.2022 Today is #EqualPayDay for 200,000 community and disability workers who achieve Equal Pay today. 17.01.2022 "...and I still call Australia home" Qantas didn't need to sack their workers. They need to sack their CEO to save money.

17.01.2022 BREAKING: New research shows 12,000 essential jobs in frontline community services are at risk if the federal government doesn’t act now. Our community sector does incredible work helping the most vulnerable members of our community but we are already underfunded undervalued. Our communities can’t afford a $500 million funding cut.... #SaveEqualPay

17.01.2022 Community and disability workers are between $200 and $650 better off each week because of union won pay rises. On December 1 our pay will go up again - and we will finally achieve Equal Pay. In 2012 the Fair Work Commission and the Federal Government agreed with ASU members that our work was undervalued and underpaid because it was viewed as women's work. We won pay rises of between 23% and 45% that were phased in between then and December 1, 2020.... Our work is essential - we've shown that through the bushfires and the pandemic this year. If you work in the community or disability sector join the equal pay union today. www.asu.asn.au/asujoin.

15.01.2022 Community workers are heroes, but our sector is being abandoned by the Government. Tomorrow we're holding an urgent national zoom meeting for all social and community workers. There is a $500 million funding black hole headed to our essential frontline services and the Federal Government is sitting on their hands, walking away from an 8-year fair funding agreement.... Without the funding, we will see thousands of jobs lost and too many essential services close their doors. If you work in social or community services - make sure you join our national union meeting tomorrow. #SaveEqualPay

08.01.2022 Scott Morrison has announced that he will cut JobSeeker payments for 1.5 million Australians a week after Christmas. This heartless cut will push people below the poverty line. It's cruel. This decision will hurt people and damage the economy further.... We need to permanently and adequately increase JobSeeker, Youth Allowance and other income support payments. You can help by calling the Prime Minister's office on 02 6277 7700 and asking him to #RaiseTheRate for good.

08.01.2022 Today, Deputy Secretary Judith Wright addressed the crowd and the media outside Qantas HQ. After announcing 8,500 job cuts since the beginning of the pandemic and stealing $9 million of pay and conditions from workers Qantas wants to move 5000 jobs interstate. 07.01.2022 The Government is using the pandemic as a cover to attack your super. Don't let them get away with it. Back in 2014 Prime Minister Tony Abbott froze the super guarantee at 9.5%. The Government legistaled that it would go up to 10% in 2021, and then 12% by 2025. It's OK for Tony he gets a $300,000 annual government pension!... 06.01.2022 12,000 jobs including in emergency relief, homelessness, and domestic violence services could be axed next year if the Morrison Government fails to replenish funds that were established by the Gillard government in 2012 to support greater pay equity and transparency. 05.01.2022 Union members have been calling for paid pandemic leave since day one but today the Fair Work Commission has said they need another month to hear evidence that there's an "elevated risk" to essential workers before they make a decision. The Federal Government could fix this with the stroke of a pen, and they would if they spent just one day working with ASU members on the frontline in essential community and disability services. We need to learn from past mistakes and ensure ...that essential workers can get tested and isolate without worrying if they can put food on the table. We've seen this pandemic get out of control in days, we can't afford to wait another month. #ValueEssentialWorkers
